I like horsehair for the military heritage. I'm a veteran and a bagpiper, I always wear my horsehair sporran when I play for the funeral of a veteran.

Seeing fox sporran in person was what convinced me. Another benefit from visiting the USA Kilts retail store.

Am new to kilts and accessories and am really enjoying your video archive. The info you share has been invaluable as I create my first complete, formal kit. Something I hope you guys might consider is including the names of the tartans you are wearing (or that appear on mannequins) in each video description. p.s. My Viking Fox Sporran just arrived - fantastic - thanks!

How about Beaver with the tail for the flap

I would love to get a rabbit sporran, but one made with fish leather seems like it might be interesting also. I know as a kid I took catfish/ bullhead skins and tanned them. I always thought, and still do, they looked interesting.

From a north American long ago former trapper perspective I was surprised somewhat to no hear river Otter mentioned as a sporran pelt.

I'm with Eric on the Goat hair sporran . Would love to have a full dress Victorian style sporran .I do have a Highland Coo semi dress that I actually bought for day wear that is very different . Also have several Sealskin sporrans in semi and Full dress and like them for the same reasons stated . ( legal here in Canada ) .

There is a lady in Florida who makes items from the python she catches as they are not ingenious to the area. Think on it. Pythons get huge!

A few years ago I saw one made out of kangaroo and he left a tail on it for the flap
@thomaspatton44013 жыл бұрын
What a gag gift that would be, the tail would be totally suggestive and make the wearer out to be something of a liar, depending on the length of the tail. That would make all the girls snicker. LOL ;)

It could happen. I know several good Black people who can trace lineage to Scottish Clans. I think it's a good thing to celebrate our Heritage regardless of race because; ALL lives matter! Every single one!

What if I told you I had a seal fur sporran 😶
@karlr7503 жыл бұрын
I'm not anti-fur. (I have two bovine hair sporrans, and the rest of them have cow leather.) But I also have a bit of concern about where/how the fur was collected. Therefore, my favorites would be ones where an invasive species (rather than a farm-raised equivalent) was eliminated in order to make the sporran. Locally, the obvious candidate would be a wild-caught invasive nutria. (For those of you unfamiliar with the species, it's a 30 lb. -- or 15 kg -- water-dwelling rodent.) I don't like the commercially available nutria sporrans. They're died, instead of being the natural color. (And they're farm-raised, which is what created the invasive species problem locally … and across several nearby states.) If I ever go for a sporran with longer hair than bovine, nutria will probably be the one. As a side note, I'm not trying to disrespect people who make different decisions than me. Alligators are common, and often a nuisance. (On the local news tonight, a 500 lb. alligator was captured close to a nearby elementary school.) Coyotes are plentiful, and occasionally a nuisance. (They have beautiful fur, and it's incredibly hard-wearing. I've considered it.) We all make our decisions based on our personal experiences and biases. And you didn't mention her in this video, but I'm completely on board with the woman who makes sporrans from roadkill. That lady is completely awesome.

Most and least exotic sporran would most definitely be human.
@thomaspatton44013 жыл бұрын
I would hate to see what would happen to the poor misguided fool who actually wore a human skin sporran to a gathering of any sort. He or she would probably be immediately stomped into a bloody puddle of sludge by everyone around him or her, and rightly so! Frankly I think the idea is completely sick and not at all in the good way. It is a warped and slightly psychotic mind that would even consider such an abomination!
