Hey folks! Couple quick things to clarify. - In the video, we implied that the FMS Maule is the same plane as the E-Flite Maule. The reality is, the electronics are completely different, and the E-Flite version has a different motor. While the airframes seem very similar, it arguably *isn't the same plane*. Also, since the FMS version requires a receiver and Horizon carried a BNF version, the FMS version isn’t necessarily less expensive. - In the video, we also state that Horizon owns FMS. They do not. This was based on Horizon Hobby's "our brands page" which listed FMS as one of their brands. Horizon simply sells FMS products as an "exclusive brand". This was clarified to us via an employee of Horizon. Hope this clears things up, Zach & Ben

I fly my "FMS" version a LOT. That tailwheel prob is a huge PITA. I heated up a shortened construction staple and forced it into the plastic end on the fuse to keep mine in place. It seems to be holding up.., for now. I'll definitely break it again. Nice to know I can just slap the floats on and still enjoy my time in upstate NY this July. No shortage of lakes to fly (and crash ) in the Adirondacks. Thanks gents! 👍

I have been flying one of these for 5 years. I had to replace the tail wheel before the first season was over. I have had to replace an aileron servo, and the main gear. The ground handling is horrible, but the STOL capability is off the charts so ground handling is not that big of a deal. I have over 100 flights on mine, wish I could get another to replace it.

On a brighter Note Horizon Hobby is sending out a new fuselage. Bonus 👍👍👍Thanks Bro

I'd like if you did comments on the UMX size planes. I got a umx timber x thinking that I would have something that flew like my 1.3Meter planes and I have been very disappointed. It is barely controllable with the flying aids turned off. I was expecting to do some mild 3d to get familiar with it before trying on my larger planes. This little plane isn't fun to fly at all. Am I asking to much from such a small plane?
@KyrreXXL8 ай бұрын
The Timber X isnt a good 3D plane, at least not the "full size" that I have. Get one of those 800mm Crack models from Twisted Hobbies you can see at 11:04, I think that one is the Laser. They fly amazing, can handle some crashing, and are easily repaired with CA and kicker.

A very diplomatic way to hint at the disadvantages of scale. Music to the ears of a UAV nerd allergic to scale detail. When flying full scale, I would love to get rid of some of the design compromises required to carry humans, AKA scale detail. Guys who choose RC over full scale should be proud of their zero seaters, those are great aircraft in their own right, superior to manned ones in many respects, and arguably more demanding to fly as well. No need to to dress them up as clumsy crewed contraptions!

Not been in the hobby long, and up to now I've bought stuff from HH. Like Spektrum radio and 3 of Blade's helis. I've go to say I'm less than impressed. Firmware for the radio that breaks functionality, like being able to use the radio as a controller for RC sims over USB. Someone from Horizon Europe telling me that US and Euro Spektrum radios are the same and both have DSM2 and DSMX, they're the same and Euro versions only have DSMX. I've found errors in the manuals too. I have the Fusion 180 Smart, and HH obviously couldn't be arsed changing the exploded view of the heli, keeping it the same as the old 180 Fusion, and leaving all the part numbers the same, leading me to ordering a load of wrong parts and wasting a shit tonne of money. Add to that the batteries and connectors they use means you have no option but to buy their own over priced batteries. My Spektrum NX8 is pretty nice, but can't see me buying a Blade heli again.
@KyrreXXL8 ай бұрын
If you cant solder, there are adapters for most connectors to allow you to use whatever connector you want. I have XT60 on most of my Horizon models, and adapters one the ones where I couldnt easily replace the connector.
@yakacm8 ай бұрын
@@KyrreXXL I can solder, the thing before I got in to RC I had been interested in electronics for a bit, but electronics only uses volts, amps and watts, RC seems to have invented loads of new things like S and C. I bought some 1S lipos for my nano S3. The 1S lipos I bought had a slightly bigger connector on them, so I made up an adaptor cable just to see if the batteries would work, connected the battery to the heli and the damn thing caught fire, lol.

Hey Steve! When doing our research for this review, we stumbled on the "brands" tab of the Horizon Hobby website. The language states "our brands", which to us implied they are owned and sold by Horizon. If this is not the case, we would love further clarification from you.
@StevesRC8 ай бұрын
FMS is listed there as an exclusive brand. While that term is now pretty loose in 2024, Horizon does not own FMS. Another example is OS Engines being listed there. We do not own OS, but distribute them exclusively in NA.
