Imelda Staunton did a fantastic job playing a character who was more hated than the story's main villain. The fact that Umbridge was more hated than Voldemort himself makes the scene where she gets carried away like firewood by the centaurs that much more satisfying. Mrs. Figg is Harry's neighbor, book 1 describes her as a crazy cat lady who sometimes babysat Harry. This book reveals that she's been working for Dumbledore the whole time keeping an eye on Harry. She's also a "squib" (slang like "muggle"), kind of a reverse muggle-born, a child of wizard parents with no magic. Mr. Filch the Hogwarts janitor is also one. All that stuff got cut for the movies though, making her scene up a bit abrupt.
@MichaelBond10 ай бұрын
I see squibs as being more like witches / wizards with a disability. They have some properties of magic folk, but can’t actually perform any magic themselves.
@residentfan15216 ай бұрын
Apparently the reason the squib stuff was cut is that Warner Bros bought the film rights before Rowling had finished the fifth book so they didn’t know that that stuff would be important. That’s also probably why a bunch of the Marauders stuff isn’t fully explained.

Tonks (girl with the changing hair color) was in GOT as Osha, the wildling that was traveling with Bran Bellatrix didn't kill Neville parents. She used the cruciatis curse on them. Basically tortured them until they lost their mind. They had a whole scene in the book where Neville went to visit them but in the movies Sirius only mentioned that they suffered a fate worst than death. That's also why Neville was triggered by (Fake) Moody performing the curse on the bug in Goblet.

I truly adore Luna. She doesn't get a lot of screen time in the movies, but she absolutely slays the time she gets. And I will forever stan her and Harry. As for why... It's expounded on more in the books, but Luna is, as you noticed, rather unusual and isn't afraid to show it. This resulted in her being the victim of bullying; when she says her things are disappearing, what she really means is that her fellow students are stealing and hiding them from her. It's not dissimilar to Harry's own childhood. More importantly, Luna always sees Harry for himself, not for any of his titles or deeds, and she always treats him like an equal. In Harry's life, she's an incredible emotional rock for him; she somehow can always tell what's on his mind, and manages to say something that comforts him. In turn, Harry never makes fun of her for her quirks and oddities, and he's always willing to stand up for her and by her side, no matter who makes fun of her. "Loony" is a derogatory nickname she's received from other students, this Hermione's double take when she accidentally introduces Luna with that name.

So an answer to your question about Mrs. Figg: She is known as a squib. In the wizarding world sometimes parents that are both wizards/witches will have a child without magical power. Mrs. Figg and Filch (caretaker of Hogwarts) are squibs. They went to school like the other students but took classes that were designed around non magical principles. Potions for example is something a squib can partake in.
@kellie604810 ай бұрын
Also Mrs Figg was Harry's neighbor across the street growing up. Kind of an old cat lady living alone. The dursleys were always worried about what she'd think of them. Harry never knew she was really apart of the wizard world until the event with the dementors. And the dursleys thought she was a normal cat lady. Clearly Dumbledore wanted someone watching the privet drive house all those years while Harry was growing up.
@andrewguenther98810 ай бұрын

It’s the best book to film adaptation and really dives into Harry’s psyche. 🥰 To answer your question about why Voldemort doesn’t attack Harry when he’s at the Dursley’s, it’s because he can’t. There’s a protection in place that stems from Lily Potter’s sacrifice and it continues to live through her sister, Petunia, because they are related by blood. That’s why Dumbledore makes Harry return there every summer and he is forced to live with them. It’s not explained in the movies but trust me, everything makes sense in the books! I especially love the duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore - you get to see what a fight between top wizards actually looks like, not just sparks flying around but using complicated, grandiose magic. I would like to point out though that the most accurate book adaptations are movies 1 and 2 - that's when JK Rowling was still heavily involved in movies and that's why those movies are actually the longest of the 8 - even there stuff got cut (obviously) but they're the most accurate to the books.

All students under the age of 17 are not allowed to use magic outside of school. Adults are free to use magic as they please. Just ideally wherever a Muggle isn't present.
@Autobot94006 ай бұрын
Not ideally. Due to things like the Salem Witch Trials in the 1600s, it is illegal to use magic in front of muggles unless you have a seriously valid reason that will be investigated and, regardless of severity, those muggles will be mindwiped. Even muggles who are brought into the Wizarding world (parents of muggle-borns, muggle spouses etc) actually have to take tests and swear legal oaths so that the Wizarding World remains a secret. If nothing else, the Wizarding World takes the Statute of Secrecy very seriously for fear the muggles might attempt another extermination. Witches and wizards under the age of 17 are barred from using magic outside Hogwarts under penalty of expulsion and wand destruction. It's the same reasoning we have for not letting a 12 year old buy alcohol or cigarettes or a 14 year old to drive a car. They're not old enough, responsible enough or educated/trained enough. Accidental use of magic isn't punished though because that happens fairly often like Harry blowing up Aunt Marge or making the glass in the snake terrarium vanish. In fact, the books tell us Harry accidentally did magic all the time but he couldn't get in trouble for it.

A bit more info on Neville's parents (none of this is spoilers, this is stuff from the books that never made it into the movie) - were tortured by Bellatrix with Cruciatus curse (the one where they say "Crucio" to torture - in the book it's described as searing, intense pain as if every cell in your body is on fire) until they literally went mad - they're still alive in a sort of mental hospital (Gilderoy Lockhart is there with them too, by the way - he's the professor from the 2nd movie who lost his memory) and Neville often visits them with his grandma, but it's a very sad situation - even in the books. His parents barely recognize him and aren't in their right minds. Neville in many ways is a character parallel to Harry, in fact he was born in the same month as Harry and at the time they didn't know whether the prophecy was referring to Harry or to Neville - Voldemort was going to kill Harry back when he was a baby because of the prophecy AND THEN kill Neville because he didn't know which one was the correct child, but since the situation with Harry left him in a weak, defeated state, he never got to Neville.

The reason the twins are abke to use magic outside of school is because they have reached the age where they are allowed too, harry was underage when he performed magic at the start
@PeterDB9010 ай бұрын
To add - it's legal for underage students to use magic but only in school while they are learning. They're not allowed to use magic outside of school because they aren't proficient with it and magic comes with dangers (for instance, the teleportation spell, if done incorrectly, could actually make part of you appear in one spot and part of you in another and literally kill you). This is different from performing magic in front of a muggle - that is illegal to EVERYONE because magic people want their world to continue to stay hidden from muggles. It does still happen every now and then and depending on circumstances not always a serious crime - sometimes they just need to wipe the memory of muggles who saw the magic happen and put everything back in order.
@Kurt_70710 ай бұрын
I'm sure someone has already said this, but the twins can use magic outside of school because they turned 17, which is the legal age in the magical world. Once you're 17, you can use magic all you like, as long as you aren't noticed by muggles, and the scene where Harry flies through London needs to include a key detail from the book. Moody puts a disillusionment charm on them all so they blend in with their surroundings. Love your reactions! You will love Half Blood Prince

-Mrs. Figg is a more prominent character in the books. For the first four books she's basically just this batty old neighbor of the Dursley's who would sometimes babysit Harry, and make his time with her quite miserable. Then in this book you suddenly realize that she was a Squib (non-magical person born from wizard parents) who Dumbledore had keeping an eye on Harry the entire time he was at his aunt and uncles. It was a huge plot twist. -Tonks is a Metamorphmagus, a wizard who has the natural born ability to change their appearance. She's an auror, so she uses her ability to disguise herself on cases and while working for the Order. Also her actress was in Game of Thrones. -Fred and George are 17 in this film, so they can now use their magic outside of school without worry. You still can't have muggles see you using magic, though, as the existence of wizards is a strict secret. -Neville's parents were not murdered, but Bellatrix Lestrange and Barty Crouch Jr. tortured them for information and drove them insane. They are now permanently hospitalized and barely recognize their own son. -McGonagall is part of the Order. In the book she only briefly shows up at Headquarters, but otherwise she is mainly the Order member in full time residence at Hogwarts, keeping control of the school. -Umbridge REALLY hates Hagrid in the book because he is half giant. She's extremely racist towards all half humans, both half breeds like Hagrid for his giant blood, but also centaurs and mermaids. -Sirius was never actually captured by Voldemort. Voldemort used his connection to Harry to give him a false vision of him torturing Sirius.

Minor book spoilers ahead (in case you plan to read): The movies leave out a lot by necessity, but the way they did it for James (Harry's dad) and Snape totally changed their characters. Snape was already obsesses with the Dark Arts and planning to join Voldemort while he was at Hogwarts. James, while arrogant, wasn't just a bully. He loathed the Dark Arts and hated Snape for it. Snape was basically his Draco Malfoy and Snape attacked James just as regularly as James attacked him. The movies really softened Snape's character far too much, in my opinion. He ended up on the right side, but just because of his obsession with Harry's mother, who wanted nothing to do with Snape after he called her a mudblood and he didn't deny his plans to join Voldemort. He hated Harry until his death, used his authority as a teacher to bully young children, and would have remained a Death Eater (likely killing and torturing Muggles and Wizards that resisted) had Voldemort not killed the 1 person he actually cared about. He even asked Voldemort to just kill Harry and James. He was fine with them dying as long as Lily could live. And the movies don't really do Dumbledore justice. He was the only wizard Voldemort ever feared. In the book battle, Dumbledore is completely calm the entire fight. Doesn't break a sweat and shows zero fear - Until Voldemort disappears and he realizes he is about to possess Harry. Also, not sure if he says so or not in the movie, but the reason Voldemort stops possessing Harry is because Harry's love/grief for Sirius and his friends causes Voldemort pain he cannot endure. And now that Voldemort knows that danger, Dumbledore is confident he will never try to possess Harry again.

Edit: Also, the reason the defense against the dark arts teacher always changes is because Voldemort applied for the job but was denied so he cursed the position

In the books, Harry hated life at the Dursley's so much that he took to spending a lot of his free time with Mrs Figg (a local neighbour). That was in book 1.

In the books Ron was down low moping because of repressed feelings for Hermione. In the books they both stubbornly refused to acknowledge they liked each other and were always at odds, like the smart nerdy angel and clueless wing man on Harry's shoulder. Opposites attract and their tension is a theme across the series.

i like to look at harry hermione and ron's relationship like this Harry and Hermione College sweethearts who are madly in love with each other and will do anything for each other Ron And Hermione that bitter old married couple who always fight over petty and trivial things but deep down still love each other
@MeMyself-gf7fn10 ай бұрын
That's completely backwards and Hermione and Harry? Zero chemistry and zero attraction. She leaves him and takes half his gold after a bitter divorce. Ron and Hermione, well you've already seen the burrow, they would continue the legacy. Ron is brave and loyal, more Griffendor than Harry ever thought about being. Hermione is Griffendor and that is what she admires the most and Ron is the quintessential Griffendor.

Hermione explains Ron's feelings in the previous books. Ron has 5 brothers, all who are popular and successful in their own endeavors. Harry is Ron's best friend but Harry always gets all of the attention because of his past and because of his abilities playing quidditch, Harrys name getting chosen (despite not putting it in) was a bit too much for Ron to cope at that time.

Ladies. I have to be honest. I have watched several people react to these movies. I have also watched a number of people react to other one offs and series etc which I liked. I don't think I have ever enjoyed reactors more. Y'all are insightful, open-minded, really smart, funny, good hearted and more. Oh have to add adorable too. It has been so very entertaining so far. There are a ton of one offs and franchises I would love to see you two react to. However, I don't really know what kind of things you are interested in. What you like and dislike. Musicals? Westerns? Action? Rom Coms? Maybe I will just suggest a small variety of things and see which ones you are interested enough in to react to. Anywaaaaayy. This has been great fun, and am looking forward to more. Stay safe and well. Y'all are great together.

And her chocolate cakes from what I recalled and it tastes so good. She is also a squib so she was born to a magical family but she has no magic herself.

Poor Harry is going through so much in this one. On top of raging teenage hormones, he has PTSD, survivor's guilt, he's been kept in the dark, everyone is calling him crazy or a liar, Umbridge is torturing him and he has Voldemort's thoughts running around in his head. That's enough to make anyone act out especially a 15 year old kid. Cho wasn't the snitch in the book. It was her friend Marietta. However Cho kept defending her and it broke her and Harry up. There was a lot more to the story than Snape's memory showed. He and James didn't like each other from the start and took every opportunity to jinx each other. Snape was no innocent, helpless victim and James was an arrogant little jerk. However, James grew past it and let it go but Snape never did. Voldemort can't go after Harry in the muggle world because as long as he considers his aunt's house home Harry is protected there. Dumbledore used an ancient spell to extend Lily's protection and make it so Harry couldn't be attacked as long as he had a home with someone who shared his and his mother's blood. Unfortunately, Petunia Dursley is Harry's only living adult blood relative on either side of his family.

I think for a movie with time constraints, Ron was depicted fairly accurately, despite some of his lines being given to Hermione. I think the intended perception of Ron was captured well for film. The books do give more insight as to why he acts the way he does.

You weren't wrong. The Order of the Phoenix is definitely named after Fawkes, Dumbledore's Phoenix. There's more to Snape's treatment of Harry but it's explained later so I won't spoil. Yeah the Dumbledore's Army stuff is SOOOOO DOPE! And one thing they left out of ALL THE MOVIES though is one of my other favorite characters, Peeves the Poltergeist, a troublemaking ghost who sometimes works with Fred and George, and sometimes against them because he's kinda Chaotic Neutral. I bring this up because of the trouble Peeves gives Umbridge at Fred and George's request in this book. It's one of my favorite moments from all 7 books. :)

The moment the Order of the Phoenix members arrives you realiz that Dumbledore army are still a bunch of kids. The adults truly are more experienced and skilled. Fun fact, there is a skill called non-verbal casting for advace magic. Hogwarts students learn it at year 6/7 (can't remember). That's why adult wizards can cast spell without muttering a word, this is so your oponent won't know what's coming to them.

About Ron : his jealousy in the fourth book is portrayed in the same way I'd say BUT his backstory kinda explains it (explains not excuses) which is kinda brushed upon in the movie. Basically he is the last son of a poor family so he's never been in the spotlight. His older brothers were prefects or quidditch captains and Ginny is the last child and the only girl. On top of that, he's never had something of his own because of poverty : he always has hand me downs. Due to that, watching his already famous best friend get more spotlight triggered his jealousy

So for Ron he felt really hurt and betrayed, but also kind of constantly overshadowed by Harry and the stuff that happens to him. He felt like he didn’t know who his best friend was and was losing him to some sort of fame when it wasn’t like that at all. It’s something he misunderstood about Harry and came to understand. Harry doesn’t want fame and glory. He wants to live his life peacefully as a wizard and A HAPPY ONE (re: raised by the Dursleys) without something constantly happening to him. Voldy was a menace to everyone in Wizard society.

As you can already tell, Harry did tell people that Malfoy (and a bunch of others) are still death eaters and part of Voldemort's crew, but the issue is that many people don't believe him - from this book forward everything becomes very political, but not in a bad way - like the story is still very interesting and terrifying, but politics just up the ante some more - on top of facing real dangers, they also now have to deal with people who either don't believe Voldemort is back or don't realize (and refuse to believe) that Voldemort has great influence even within the ministry (not overtly, but sort of as a conspiracy - he has spies operating everywhere), so there are people who think that Harry is doing everything to get attention.

What's cool about watching this series is, you don't just get to watch them get bigger, you also get to watch them go from being kid actors to full fledged actors. For example, Daniel Radicliffe goes from making over exaggerated shocked faces in Sorcerer's Stone to writhing on the floor as if he's actually being possessed by a man whose spirit animal is a snake.

the carving thing was more bothersome reading the books cause of how it was explained. i believe his detention was for a full month or more, and every evening he would go to her office and serve d detention for hours, i mean into the "am" on occasions. Then d graphic explanation was like d pen carved into d skin, the skin covers back up (i mean d way i interpreted it was like peanut butter being sprd on a toast....like thats how d patch up was, kinda like smudging d skin back together), and then as u write it carves back on and d cycle repeats......and he did this for hours, so you can imagine how Harry's hand was sore, inflamed and horrible after every session.

Dudley started doing boxing the last summer that's why he's transformed a bit and can run fast lol 6:10 nope she's a Squip "non-magical person born to magical parent/s" just like the caretaker Filch with the cat. 6:22 Actually! Dudley only meant ask Harry not Harry did it. In the books it's explained that from this day forward Dudley stopped being awful to Harry out of gratitude. He never bullied him again! :)❤ 8:11 She's an Auror too like Moody and no she's a metamorphmagus it means she can change not only her hair but her whole appearance at will! To people AND animals too basically to any thing she wants! and she's a Hufflepuff too!💛 9:16 Only forbidden for minors like Harry. It's allowed when you're 17. 19:30 of course she is! she just mostly stays at Hogwarts because she's deputy headmistress in case Dumbledore is busy which he is most of the time so she basically co-runs Hogwarts. 33:00 They did date and she did love him yeah. The time spreads longer in the books, they dated for the whole duration of the tournament which was months; basically the whole school year. 38:54 Fate worse than death Sirius said.. they are alive still but they've been tortured to madness by Bellatrix and Barty Jr from last movie.. now they're at the magical hospital with brain damage and permanent memory loss they can't even recognize Neville anymore💔 In the book When Mr. Weasley was at the hospital the family and Harry visited him before he was released and Harry with Ron and Hermione saw the Longbottoms there while Neville was visiting them with his nana.💔 44:10 EXTREMELY one sided scene! Not justifying bullying ever! BUT every action must cause a reaction and Snape certainly was NOT a merely poor abused victim of James, and James was NOT just the evil bully and could never be compared to Dudley and Draco.. You'll know more details later nothing is black and white and that was "SNAPE'S memories, from ONLY SNAPE'S Pov" just keep that in mind.. And no not when you bully kids they become bullies not necessarily.. look at Neville and Harry himself they turned out great. Snape DID NOT turn out to be an evil bully "according to the books" because of James just remember that. If you ever read this that is lol. 49:49 That's the Prophecy told about Voldemort's downfall that made him chase after the Potters to kill Harry..: "The one with the power to vanquish the Dark lord approaches. Born to those who have thrice defied him, born as the seventh month dies. 💬and the Dark lord will mark him as his equal, but he will have power the Dark lord knows not. and either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives. The one with the power to vanquish the Dark Lord will be born as the seventh month dies."💬 It was told by Prof. Trelawny! She was possessed just like she was in movie 3 when her voice was different remember! And she said it in front of Dumbledore! Then he kept it in that crystal in the department of mysteries and had it protected like you saw Mr. Weasley guarding it when he was attacked by Nagini. Voldemort only knew about the first part someone could only deliver only the first half of it to him.. he never heard the rest which I marked with these💬💬 so that's why he's seeking it to hear the rest so he knows what he did wrong, why he failed in killing Harry. The funny part is.. had he heard the rest he wouldn't have dared to approach Harry at all! The prophecy id self fulfilled! "The dark lord will mark him as his equal.." it said so had he never did what he did to Harry and his parents Harry wouldn't have had a great motive to have his revenge! 56:00 Harry's gotta do nothing! Voldemort couldn't hold a candle! that's why he resolved to possessing Harry at the end. He has nothing on Dumbledore! He's got a whole chapter in the book called "The only one he has ever feared"! Dumbledore here was just very mindful of Harry being there, he was afraid something would happen to him. 1:00:03 Well not really no. Harry has to stay with his aunt exactly for that; to be protected from Voldemort. The thing is, his mom's protective spell that protects him against Voldemort since she died is the strongest in effect when he's close to a blood relative which is aunt Petunia! That's why Dumbledore insisted on keeping him there during the summer so he'd be safe while away from him, and he'd be under his nose and protection while at Hogwarts.👌

I wouldn’t agree about Snepee memory. James potter in the books is just a disgusting bully at hogwarts. He and Sirius especially picked on many kids and hexed random kids in the hallways for fun. Made Draco Malfoy look like an innocent choir boy in comparison. James even lied to Lily that he stopped bullying Snape but he continued anyway behind her back so he could date her based on lies.
@LadyButterfly9910 ай бұрын
@@ChelseaChfy-ex1po Some spoilers!!!!! Don't read if you've not seen the WHOLE franchise!!!! you're a Snape die fan obviously.. alright. No, if you know the story correctly and unbiased James did stop bullying all including Snape when he noticed Lily getting seriously upset and disgusted He didn't want that he wanted to look cool for her but realised that's not the way about it And according to the adult marauders and Lily herself Snape wasn't innocent And definitely didn't turn the way he is because of "James bullying" he was already leaning towards the evil side. She said "he's a disgusting bully but he's not evil Snape, what you're doing with your friends is EVIL" along those lines And he did stop They were immature kids and I don't justify their immature actions BUT they're good kids and they turned out great as they grew up That's exactly what people do nowadays to celebrities specially Korean if you're seeing those They destroy the whole carrier of a star because he WAS a bully at school Bullying is DISGUSTING but can we sentence people to death because of it even if they grew out of it and turned to good people?? There's no black and white people love, everyone of us did bad stuff.. It's all about the decisions you make throughout your life to fix it. I'd blame Snape's evilness on his father and his bad upbringing.. his household was one of the worst But so does Harry's! And Snape had a chance with Lily's guidance and support to be a better man but he threw it away When on the other hand James chose Lily over his immaturity and proud ways. But if you look into it also according to books and facts from people around them They were brilliant kids with good grades, brave, righteous and they show you at the very beginning even why they hated Snape right of the bat.. on the train to Hogwarts if you remember.. His tendencies towards evil and the greatness he seeks from Slytherin house made Sirius hateful and skeptical, the one whose whole family are Evil worshippers of Slytherin and the dark and the only Black to be a Gryffinfor because he didn't want to turn like them. And by extension the righteous brave and daring James who saw pride in his ancestors house and in bravery and fighting evil. HE justified his actions by him hating Snape's ways and crowed and overall hated him by Lily's side.. On the other hand Snape wasted TOO MANY opportunities to be good.. He only woke up when Lily was dead not even when she was marked for death Remember when he asked Voldemort to spare her but have his way with her kid and husband? Dumbledore was disgusted.. He only woke up when she already died.. BUT I immensely respect his bravery and as he finally chose her and the right side putting a great danger on himself and turning better and better by the minute under Dumbledore's wing and influence also according to the books.. he was turning braver by the minute and Dumbledore acknowledged it! So please don't be biased and read the facts in the books. 😊❤️
