Tamron 35-150 is my go to lens. It basically only comes off when I'm using a prime lens or an ultrawide zoom. It's my working lens for concerts and weddings, my travel lens, and sometimes my street lens. Absolutely flawless

I really want the 35-150 for the Nikon Z but my concerns are it can get a bit clinical, the original design is out for about 4 years so maybe the G2 will be out in a couple years.

35-150 is extremely versatile as a focal length. It covers everything you'd need for portraits in one lens, and is great for pretty much anything else you're going to need other than wildlife or sports. I often carry it with the Sony 16-35mm f/4 which is tiny and that is a perfect combination for travel that fits in one sling bag. You could also pair it with a 100-400 and have another really versatile pair of lenses. I wish Sony made one that would allow you to hold focus while zooming, but otherwise that Tamron is one of my favorite lenses ever.

Not a single APSC lens 😕... There's something quite unique going out with a Tamron 17-70 and a Sony 70-350, and being covered from 24mm to 525mm with campact, capable and fast bodies.

I own the Olympus 12-40 and 40-150mm f2.8 PRO lenses. Those are 24-80 and 80-300mm equivalents. Either one is great for portraits with that 80mm equivalent, but then I throw a 2x teleconverter on the 40-150, and it becomes an 80-300 (160-600 equivalent), good for wildlife applications. For portraits, I do still prefer my 45mm f1.8 (90mm equivalent) prime, but that's more because of the f1.8. The 45mm f1.2 PRO prime lens is also an option for an even brighter aperture and weather sealing, but I don't feel the need for it. Best of all, that 45mm f1.8 is dirt cheap and absolutely tiny, yet it can produce gorgeous images.
@christillСағат бұрын
I completely agree. Although I think I’d enjoy the 25-50mm MFT range of that Panasonic, since I rarely use less than 50mm in full frame equivalent, and it’d be handy to have 100mm equiv. I’d definitely prefer that over the OM 12-40mm I have. But obviously the 40 matches with the 40-150.

The 35-150 is a game changer, adjusting the trinity to 17-28 + 35-150 + 180-600. 70mm was hardly more useful than 50mm, so I'm thrilled to replace the 24-70 and 70-200 with just the 35-150

I got it recently wanting to love it since I've mostly done infinity type shots and then mfd ones so far..but lately I seem to be attempting to take portrait, shallower dof shots of interesting things I encounter and this lens is not meant for that I think. Further having 20mm is nice but quite often I have to do keystoning for verticals. It's still a weather resistant, portable enough to suit the A7C line well and sharp lens. Just know what you want it for.

One of the weirdest focal range lenses I've owned was the amazingly sharp Olympus ZD 11-22mm f/2-3.5. That lens produced outstanding quality images, and was a weather sealed lens. Sadly, it was simply a focal range that overlapped other quality lenses that I tended to need/use in my professional shooting, so it became a paperweight and I sold it.

I've grown to love the Samyang 35-150. But I absolutely dig your number 1 choice on here. I want more pro f4 lenses that are compact, versatile and produce great results. A theoretical lens that might accompany that well could be a 70-150 f/4. That would be a dream combo for travel.

I own the 8-25 f4 Pro. Chris and Jordan have raved about that lens before so I took their recommendation to heart. Great zoom range. Ideal for visiting a new city or for a stroll in the woods. I don't own an E or L mount camera, but I'd be interested in the Sony 20-70 F4 or the Panasonic 18-40mm for the very same reason I own the 8-25.

One possible combo I'd like to see from NIkon perhaps (although a bit bigger than their 28-400) would be something like a 20-300mm f/4-6.3, or something similar. This would exceed the range of the 24-200, 24-120 and be more of a premium optic to the 28-400. I'd say 20-300 or even a 20-240mm (slide wider than Canon's 24-240) would be a great range where someone could carry just ONE lens that does it all for maybe a bit more than the 28-400 but with better optics. That's something I'd like to see. The issue with the existing Z travel zoom is: 24-120 (good image quality but may be too short at 120mm / 24-200: good zoom range, optics aren't as good after 135mm / 28-400 wide zoom range but the slow aperture from 85mm onward [f/8], and the optics are not as good from 300mm+). So I'm thinking a medium-quality "S" line optic that goes from 20-300 that has a faster range than the 28-400 for maybe $1500.

Technological improvements now allow a zoom to have similar IQ to a prime. That was the advantage of primes in the past. In today’s advancements, the only real advantage tele primes have over tele zooms is price/size/weight vs flexibility. Take the canon 100-300 2.8, more expensive/larger/heavier than a 300 2.8 but you get the versatility of a zoom. But if compactness is what you are after, the prime is still smaller. It’s all a trade off of what suits your needs in todays advancements
