I've had 2 blow outs. One was a few years ago, in a small 2,000lb single-axle trailer. I was hauling trash to the landfill, doing about 60 in a 55 2-lane highway when I looked to my left and saw tire treads running parallel to me, just rolling down the highway next to me. It was comical at first, seeing tire treads, no sidewall, just rolling down the road, until I realized that the treads had to come from somewhere. I pulled over, and yep, it was my tire. Never heard a thing, never felt a jerk or anything abnormal, if the treads hadn't of rolled up next to me, I probably wouldn't of noticed. My second blow-out was on a 2-axle trailer, loaded to about 9,000lb. I just passed an exit, when I heard a pop and felt the trailer sag, and I lost my lights. Still had headlights, but the rest of my lights for the truck and trailer were gone. The tire ripped out some wiring, caused a short, and popped some fuses. So I was on the side of the road with no lights, no triangles, nothing to warn drivers that I'm there on the shoulder, changing out a tire on the driver side, so my rear was hanging out in traffic with people just whizzing by. What I had going for me was that my truck is a 4WD, so I pulled off the shoulder and into the grass, giving me more room to work with. Didn't need it going into the grass, but I had to use it to get out, because when i was done, I was stuck. Also, I keep a 1/2-inch Cordless Impact in the truck. It's an Earthquake from HF that I retired from using on a daily basis, it's pretty worn out. So I tossed that one in the truck and got another one for my daily use. Glad I kept the old one in the truck, so I made quick work of the tire change. That still left me with about 100 miles of driving at night with only headlights, no tail or brake lights. 30 miles later I came across another town and got some fuses.

Blowouts is one of my biggest fears. Glad y'all were ok. It's different for us since we have a Class A. Either way, not a fun situation. Glad to see that it didn't ruin the weekend. We loved Lockhart State Park. Hope to see y'all on the road again someday soon. Safe travels!

@adamlevine2320 Thank you! We were so thankful we did not have major damage to the trailer. Yes, blowouts are so scary, even in a class A. Just pay attention to the tire pressure monitoring system. Thanks for watching and hope to see you guys on the road as well. 😀

We blew two tires this past week on 2 occasions on I26 in North Carolina. Very scary. After 2nd one we went to a tire shop and got 4 new tires. Thank you for your tips. We bought a hydraulic jack after first one.

Great for the advice. Someone may have cut it halfway. Get the trail cameras for security at your stops. They are great. Get a couple. To save you days of research just get two that operate on 4 AA BATTERIES. Then buy 8 rechargeable AA BATTERIES with a charger for 8 AAs. The batteries last a good week on photo but you can change settings to video motion activated. Night vision. Get the trail cametas with the screen on the units. They record in loop. The storage is huge. Then you can call police & press charges.

Change to all metal valve stems, not just the ones with metal then rubber where it goes in the wheel. Had the valve stem break like that but not as bad. TPMS gave us gave us enough warning to stop. O’Reilly’s has them part #17-428. They fit our 6 lug aluminum wheels.

Glad to hear you guys are safe and got that tire changed. What Tire Pressure monitoring system do you guys have? I use a system on my motorcycle after almost blowing out my rear tire in the Utah Desert a couple years back.

I have a travel trailer very similar to yours with one axle. I've had 2 blowouts in 2 years. When I tried to jack up the trailer with my bottle jack I had the same issue with not being able to get it under the axle. Then I figured out to jack it up using the frame instead of the axle and it works great. You just have to put a couple wood blocks under the bottle jack. I used the 8" block I keep to put under the tongue jack. I had damage to the nylon cloth underneath the trailer behind the wheel well both times and had to do some DIY repairs.

To answer your question about how i handle a flat tire. One time it was the lord saving me from a pile up on the expressway. I called on my CB whats going on the traffic is all stopped now (AS I AM CHANGING THE FLAT ON THE EXPRESSWAY) I thought it was a bad thing but i would have been right around that pileup. but bible says bad things are meant to be used as good. Or turned around to be good. I just put a couple of flares way down behind me so vehicles can see about a quarter block away. Then light up another and just take my time and TIGHTEN LUG NUTS USING STAR PATTERN. not one after another. I put my adjustable stand to hold vehicle in case the jack falls or slips. Dont even worry about it. It only has two wheels. I would recommend having at least 2 spares at all times. What if you are travelling long distances and on a sunday you have a 2nd blowout on a long road?

j.vincento7152 First and foremost, we are so glad you were safe! This is great advice because the only thing worse than one flat tire is two fat tires! 😭

Dont add second spare to your rear camper bumper. It will break the bumper off. Already did the research for keystone springdale campers. Maybe put under your propane see if weight rating is ok

In Virginia its a law you have to move over if someone is on the side of the road, is it followed..sometimes. DOT has trucks that will come help you and make people move over. I carry a floor jack because that was all I had. I was going to change to a bottle jack to save space but I think I'll keep it now! Thanks for the tip.
@OutsidebySide

@Tim927 We think you are supposed to move over in Texas as well. Glad to hear Virginia has that law! Many vehicles did move over but others did not! We definitely recommend keeping the floor Jack. Thanks for watching our video! 🤩

So weird now u had a tire issue after a few weeks ago I was stuck with a flat.....I had a bottle jack and I wasn't happy with it when I was trying to use it it felt unsafe.....y'all felt the same way.....tire issues are no joke....it doesn't matter what tire u put on they all will have problems cheap or expensive new or used tires....I already have the heavy duty kobalt impact driver with the 1/2 inch drive/socket I have the one that most mechanics use at dealerships.....yeah it got me thinking what I could do better or what tools I should have after my issue.....that's why I was asking y'all all them questions about what y'all have....it was scary...I'm sure it was for u too

@pineapplesmash6678 Yes, we were thinking of you because we remembered having that conversation about a bottle Jack! Glad you are okay and we will definitely be upgrading to a floor jack. 😭 We liked the fact that the bottle jack didn’t take up much space but we learned through the process that we need more & wanted to let everyone know! Thanks for commenting & letting us know about your situation! 🤩

@@OutsidebySide yes I liked that the bottle jack doesn't take up much space too....I don't know where I would be able to store a jack that size on my rig and u have to worry about hitting the max of your trailer weight or the trailer frame could snap in 2

That sucks! I have dual axles and hit a pot hole so big I think the camper became airborne. I don't have a TPM and the only way I found it was, got stuck behind someone who couldn't back in at the campground when the wife got out to walk the dog. It bent the rim that's how hard I hit that pot hole. (won't be going there again) I used the trucks scissor jack to change my tire so you using yours was the same thing. My other trailer that is a dual axle had a blow out. I was feeling a vibration before that. I did stop and checked the tires, but couldn't find anything until it was blowing chunks on the road. They were the original tires and probably 20 years old, not new brand name tires like yours. Did you buy the warrantee for the tires?
@OutsidebySide

@bertkelly7650 Glad you guys are okay and we definitely recommend a TPM! It does suck when it happens but hopefully we can be more prepared by trial & error! Thanks for watching & happy camping! 🤩

On 45 toll road near interstate 35, only place to pull over was in between toll and an on ramp just enough room for truck and camper . G-kids and the pup in the back seat and the wife keeping them at bay, tools on hand were tow vehicles and a socket set I had in storage bay. After I finished wife said I changed that tire in under twenty minutes, think the cars doing 75-80 was my motivation. Only vehicles that yielded the right lane were tractor trailers and service vehicles 🤷‍♂️. After the experience my daughter then a 911 dispatcher Said had I called 911 they would have either sent an officer or constable to assist FYI this may be an option were in Texas.
