Also, very strong influence of SSSR communism and ottoman influence in part of country eastern and southern of Bucharest. Maybe, some politicians criticising bucharest govermant because of money overspanding on christmasy atmosphere or something liek that. It can be a reason, i do not know. In Serbia. Christmas atmosphere at the streets starts ussually at the begining of November. It is not something what we can call FULL christmas market and full atmosphere. @@zingwibrothers the Christmas Market already started in Craiova (a south-western town in Romania) the Cristmas Market from Craiova is the biggest Christmas Market in Romania, but honestly I think that the best Christmas Markets from Romania are in Transilvania, especially in Sibiu, a town founded by Germans at he mid late 12 century, the German name of this town is Hermannstadt. Christmas is celebrated in Romania on December 25 due to the Romanian monarchy that rulled Romania between 1881-1947, the rulling family was the family of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, they were German, they changed the Cristmas date. In 2024 on the same model Ukraine changed the date of Christmas and the Ukrainians celebrated Christmas for the first time on december 25th, in order to differentiate them from Russia on the religious plan.

Transfagaarasan and Transalpina highways that traverse the mountains at high altitudes are a must in romania... though, sadly, between october and may those roads are closed because of havy snow blocking them... Transfagarasan road in particular is actually considered the best driving road in the world... a quote from Jeremy Clarkson himself (from Top Gear)... its also one of the best places to spot bears... you often spot several bears on the side of the road... if lucky you could spot up to a dozen bears in just 1 drive by... but when the road is open that is... and even in other areas like Prahova Valey, where bears often come into the villages there to scavange trash cans, in november its verry hard to spot them.. because almost all bears retreated to hibernation by now... but hey, there are a lot of nature to see... lots of mountain passes, valeys, we got the danube, the danube delta, the black sea... and many more... so many castles, so many churches and monestaries... and the culture is there... Definitely visit Sinaia (the most beautiful mountain resort), not just Peleș castle (a must! Especially for Germans), but walk around through the neighborhoods (especially the higher up ones) and parks, and the monastery. In Transylvania, the most beautiful drive would be from Brașov to Sighișoara with plenty of fortresses and stops on the way (including a great trout farm/restaurant), and then to Sibiu. Or drive from Brașov to Sibiu. And stop at Cârța (where the French built a monastery very different from the German ones around the area!) and the Făgăraș fortress, which is quite impressive (with a moat!). Don't skip the Alba Iulia citadel, a Habsburg town with Roman vestiges and walkable streets. Hunedoara Castle is not too far away and quite impressive. Off the beaten path you should check out the painted monasteries of Bucovina (don't miss Sucevița and Voroneț, but if in the area, I'd visit Voroneț, Humor, Moldovița, Sucevița, and Putna at the very least, some have interesting museums as well), and the region of Maramureș (with unique wooden churches). The Danube Delta mai be interesting especially in the off season - all transportation there is by water, not by land, and the lifestyle is quite unique because of the geography; the northernmost subtropical forest is also there. You can get a glimpse of high altitude roads such as Transalpina or Transfăgărășan. As Germans you would really enjoy the area around Sibiu (see the villages of Cisnădie, Cisnădioara, Săliște, Gura Râului, and the high altitude villages of Poiana Sibiului and Jina). In Bucharest don't miss the outdoor Village Museum, try to go inside the Palace of Parliament (a reservation and a passport are required), and inside the Athenaeum (the visitor entrance is sort of hidden on the right side of the building). Near Bucharest you may want to see Mogoșoaia, a royal complex with unique Romanian architecture (a local style mixing Byzantine and Ottoman motifs).

For food try pastramă de oaie (mutton pastrami) with must (young wine/fermented grape juice before it becomes wine), it's seasonal. Try any mâncare cu gutui (usually poultry and quince fruit, also seasonal), ciorbă (sour soup) or borș (soup soured with fermented wheat bran, despite the misleading name it has nothing to do with Eastern European borscht). For alcoholic drinks, try vișinată or afinată (sour cherry or blueberry liqueur), there are also others made from strawberries, figs, apricots, and other local fruits - it's stronger than wine but weaker than spirits. For non alcoholic drinks, other than must (young wine), try bragă (Ottoman fermented wheat drink, it's easier to find in Constanța and on the coast), and freshly milked unpasteurized milk in the villages, just ask around. Also sample the many diverse and delicious cheeses (telemea, caș, burduf, cașcaval, and the one cured in pine bark). Don't miss mămăligă (a mashed corn dish going back to Roman times, but using corn instead of millet after the introduction of this crop from the New World). Exotic for you may be fish roe (eggs, but not like fhe caviar you are used to), breaded cow brains, breaded cașcaval cheese, and the ubiquitous street food - mici (Romania's answer to the ground meat kebab).

you re going to get massive pushed into Romanians youtube homepage so you ll get some spoilers about our country. Don t worry about criminality ... it got exported to western europe ;) if you want to see nice but expensive locations go to middle north bucharest restaurants where probably the prices are adjusted to W Europe . City centers are always OLD town souvenir typestuff so thats not the present tense image of any country. If you want nice scenery in autumn go to the mountains eventually by train so you won t get stuck in infernal traffic (if you go friday or return sunday). And about youtubers... some of them will say anything for the clicks so not a reliable source. Have fun, don t get scammed by "local girls" some of them weren t hired abroad to be displayed they stayed here as influencers ;P

Thanks for the Advice! Would you say the train is the best way to get around in Romania ?
@axxaurelian8921 күн бұрын
@@zingwibrothers just if you go to the mountains ... if you go near the highways the car is faster. And you have to do some digging and get the expensive train tickets because the cheapest stop every 10 km; You need trains which stop only in bigger towns

Everywhere in Romania is safe and it’s always been like that! Never slums .. in every country are some bad areas. But not to compare with other coutries that I have seen .. in the US for example I’m scared to go to the city at night.. homeless people everywhere..but not in Romania

Are you Germans? 🤔 I answered the question myself, the accent gave it away. Super dass ihr auch Rumänien mal besucht habt. Ich würde sagen es ähnelt manchmal mit Osten Deutschlands. Für Essen besonders in Transilvanien man findet viele Gerichte die auch in Deutschland und Italien zu finden sind.

Mkay, I'm 2 weeks late to comment here, but I'll do it anyway... what the heck kinda youtube channels have you been watching? Cause the other travel vloggers who came to Romania, actually wound up having a great impression about it. You have Minority Nomad, Jetlag Warriors, I've seen some Argentinians a while ago, some Brazilians too... they all had great stuff to say, and they didn't just experience the tourist traps, but the actual beauty of the country and my gosh, did they love the cuisine. It's not just about mici and sarmale, but also varza a la Cluj, bulz, ciorba de perisoare, ciorba de burta, ciorba de fasole, iahnie de fasole cu ciolan afumat, pomana porcului, and pretty much anything with mujdei; and don't get me started about the desserts, cause it's not just about the papanasi. But you'd have to find a neighborhood bakery ( not a franchise, cause those are expensive and in my experience, they always disappoint, but they will charge you an arm and a leg for the design), the kind that has a baker who cooks/bakes like a grandma. That's where you hit the jackpot. Cause they have the old school recipes and know-how and those, my friends, are the real deal.

Romanian language has about 20% of slavic loanwords, many turkish and hungarian ones too, but walk around and you'll see that more words overall sound latin, though for me that's the case, maybe because I'm just used to my language and how it sounds in my head and I'm biased that it's more latin but thats what you sort of get when you're at the edge with many empires influencing you.

Also just saw you guys might be Germans, in the R. of Moldova we used to have Germans living as well. Sadly they were exiled before WW2 or somewhere there.

The construction project for this area of Bucuresti began in 1977 - in fact the architect was 28 when the project began. Her name was Anca Petrescu. The main building began a bit later (1982) and Anca Petrescu was in charge of a team of 150 architects and (wait for it) 20,,000 construction workers. After 1989 she went to work in Paris, New York, Dubai and other big cities. Unfortunately she died young in 2013 from severe injuries after a car accident.
