Thank you for your 'motu' tutorial. That definitely defused my fear based ignorance and gave me confidence to go to such places. I sailed in the 1970s on paper charts only and avoided mid-ocean reefs. Frankly they scared me a lot.

That is so true about a camera. The hills you climb look flatter, the waves look smaller but it still goes and adds 10 pounds to your figure.

Another great episode! Thanks. One never grows tired of watching dolphins playfully swim along with a sailboat and you had so many !! And the mantra rays . . woah . . i never knew they had those vivid markings.. Enjoy your time in Paradise. Sending best wishes from Tokyo Bay where we are putting on double mooring lines for a typhoon this weekend.

@sailingbacchushome9444 жыл бұрын
The Torqeedo is still going well! I do enjoy rowing though, and it’s good exercise. We usually get the outboard out if its windy/choppy in the anchorage.

Hey, great channel. Going through all your videos at the moment. In this one it seems you have a radar signal on your iPad. Is that a furuna wlan radar? If so can you recommend it?
@sailingbacchushome9443 жыл бұрын
Not radar, AIS! It was very useful in busy shipping lanes. Ours was a Vesper Marine XB8000, which had a WiFi link to the iPad. We didn’t have true radar (would have liked it, but ran out of money!)
@janruschke76913 жыл бұрын
@@sailingbacchushome944 thanks for the info. Ok just an ais. I got mine as an overlay on navionics i would have thought you could do the same maybe not a few years ago. I got an Oceanis 331 so very similar to your boat and hope to cross the Atlantic next year. Wish I had a windsteering system like you had but I hope my autopilot won’t break until then.

Seriously though, yes Scott is bang on, it's for the camera to sit in, I think there's a bit of bungee to hold it in place, but I could just be making that bit up 🙄

'we're a little bit close' -- so why put anyone in the uncomfortable position to have to say anything? You already knew it was too close. Looks like there was plenty of area there but hard to say with just the camera angles and not being there. So what was the actual reason you felt that was a good spot to drop anchor? I'm not French.. just curious as to why that was your choice spot.
@sailingbacchushome9444 жыл бұрын
Fair call - but it's quite difficult to predict exactly where you will sit once you've dropped the hook, and she's swung to the wind. In a tight anchorage, after you drop, you have to make a decision based on whether YOU feel comfortable about your proximity to your neighbours. At our closest point, we had approximately 1.5 boat lengths between us. My comfort levels might not match my neighbour's though, and if they differ, then the last boat to arrive needs to relocate - which is what we ended up doing. If he HAD been comfortable though, then I would have been happy to stay. Hope this clarifies! A
