Thank you for sharing your home with us. Great decisions on the ways you're making that home serve your needs. Bravo! My husband and I completely agree about Gabriel Garcia Marquez's One Hundred Years of Solitude... the ship with orchids was magical.( I just had trouble with the time sequences. Also loved Love in the Time of Cholera. We're working our way through your list of recommended books and have enjoyed all of them so far.) You videos keep getting better and better. Your humor and interactions are so engaging. I can't wait to get back to Spain and take one of your tours. In a couple of homes in Spain, we saw some wall mounted shoe storage cabinets that were very sleek and didn't take up much space. Stay safe! Thanks again! Great fun!

Best video. Thoroughly enjoy watching listening and learning with your videos. Thanks for being so informative ✌️ and as far as those chairs you inherited with the apartment, don’t touch them they’re beautiful and in excellent condition. I would love to live abroad In Spain 🇪🇸 for a spell, i’ve been thinking about San Sebastian, as I would prefer to stay away from the larger cities, yet not be completely isolated either . Any info about the north of Spain 🇪🇸?

I was completely drawn to all the details of your house tour and I feel more connected to you, than I did before. It was adorable to see the earlier photos of when you first met. The space in the entryway has the potential for a bench/shoe storage combo, which allows you to store the shoes neatly underneath, but also lets you sit while taking-off/putting-on shoes. I did a search under "mud room ideas" and many photos popped up. I am equally a fan of rain shower heads because they feel soothing underneath them due to the many built-in holes which distribute water evenly. Also, the size of the shower head covers more of your body while showering. I do hope you have a mat in front of the shower in the hall bathroom. Marble floor is very slippery when wet. I have to give "props" to Yoly for assembling all that furniture. She is a force of nature !!! And finally, I will give you a thumbs up on the hat. I like it !!! However, I see you wearing it at an outdoor restaurant overlooking the ocean instead of trekking inside a city.

Excellent tour: suggestion for the terrace: you can have those shade sails to create a shady area , I like the triangles to put 2 of them one above the other letting the air pass through in different directions, will require some work but it solves the problem and is a cheap solution: below you can have your dinner table and close a barbecue. Then another area full of big planters with tall plants surrounding a bistro set to have some privacy in a very romantic way, add some outdoor string lights for your evening wine. And the third area can be those lounge chairs to take sun in the winter. 3 areas: connected con planters that guide you through the areas creating pathways. If you plan to have people over you can put some benches and bar tables without the chairs. Remember to paint the floor, walls and use lighting and plants to create the spaces. I hope this would help

Enclose part of the terrace, either with glass or screen. Put planters all around it (to make it feel smaller and give more privacy). Get rain barrels to collect water from the rain on those downspouts, so you can use the water, but also decrease the amount of water running across your terrace--it's bad for it over time. Also make it so that the overflow of the barrels will run into planters and feed your plants. You two are the greatest living humans.

Bialetti is a good way to make coffee. I used to drink it that way, until I went for espressos. (Fun fact: If you want to make Cuban-style coffee, use the Bialetti. But add brown sugar to the pot beforehand, so as the coffee comes up... it dissolves the sugar. And swirl the pot as the coffee comes up, to mix the coffee and sugar.)

Oh Yoli, I absolutely love you...when I watched you doing dishes in the tub, reminded me of an apartment in Brooklyn, NY, I lived in as a little girl. It was a very old building and the bathtub was in the kitchen. We had to draw the metal cover over the tub and use it as a counter top. My mother used to bathe us in that tub, clean it out thoroughly and also used it as a clothes washing basin, and yes, washing dishes. We had our toilet out in the hall, and had to share it with the other tenants on that same floor. We moved out after a year. Very interesting residence probably built in the late 1800's.

For terrace ideas; chaise lounge chair, bamboo plants for semi privacy (also they look very beautiful with minimal upkeep), a grapevine wood trellis with leaves for shade and green background, sectional outdoor couch with small fire pit that serves as a coffee table. The trellis would be a must. Check out some ideas online and they are very affordable.

I’ll be in Valencia again in 11 days from now just in time to catch the last two days of Fallas 🎉 I really enjoy your videos I’ve learned a lot about Valencia over the years but with your videos I’m learning even more. Hey, I'm one of the five Spaniards, who live in Madrid, have a dryer, comment and all that!!! When you have an open terrace, it's no big deal (your clothes will dry quickly). But if you don't (and have kids), the problems begin. Especially in the "entretiempo", when it's not hot enough or not cold enough to turn the heating on, clothes will never dry! We got a dryer this year, best purchase ever ;) Nice house, btw!

In the US, people make what are called “rag rugs” out of old clothing. The rugs are often six different colors but some are two to three colors in a striped pattern. People also buy commercially made versions of these rugs from Walmart. The rugs are often the size of door mats but at times much longer to serve as a rug for a hallway.

James, I'm here to solve your hat dilemma! Not whether you should wear it, but how to pack it. My family (British and very pale and easily burnt) always bring hats abroad. How to do it: stack the hats inside one another, smallest crown on the bottom. Then fill the bottom hat with socks, underwear to help it retain its shape. Put all the hats in the suitcase first, in the middle. Stack the clothes on the brim and around and over the crown with the heaviest items on the sides and least on the top. Been doing this for decades. Some of our hats are that old but still fine. 😁👒

Hey, you are wearing no slippers. BOTH! In other videos you said that this is a must in Spain ;) Nice renovations. Nearly this style I like. Buy this IKEA shoe wardrobe. Very helpful and you can put nice decoration on it. Is there a huge problem with burglars in Spain? I see sooooo many times at houses and condos on the ground floor that they always have window grilles? Completely unusual in Germany where grew up and in Thailand where I live. I would always feel like in prison when I look outside.

Great tour! As an expat who worked in 3 different countries, I have to admit that I now travel light. I got rid of my books and, although I love to read and the smell of books, I live next to a library which I frequent often. It could also be my FIRE background. I do tend to sell things I don't need right away as any object represent "money" and also fewmore steps toward financial independance... Nice piso. I just renovated my 125 old condo in Montreal. 3rd floor of a Triplex in The Plateau Mont-Royal... a classic... but, like yours, painting my door frames and mouldings in white (like the walls) gave a much more modern look to the place, and it seems bigger as well. Great videos you're doing. Thx!

In the entry, you can add a bench and put the shoes underneath, which gives you a place to sit and put them on. A mirror is always a good idea. I would add hooks to the wall (and get rid of the rack) for a cleaner, more modern look. On the terrace, you could have a seating (lounge) area in addition to the dining area. Great place! Enjoy it.

Yoli, before you do anything with the chairs you should check to see if they are special in some way, like if they are from some famous furniture designer--they look like they might be but the video was to fleeting for me to notice. For the entry, hang a lengthwise mirror so you can check yourself before going out, and you will want shoe storage with a flat surface on top to drop keys and packages--and the coat tree takes up a lot of floor space--coat hooks attached to the wall would be more practical. James, the hat DOES suit you as long as it doesn't affect your present personality, because sometimes one adopts a personna to match one's costume. Your terraza is AMAZING! Definitely plant kitchen herbs, a laurel/bay leaf bush, several varieties of tomatoes and marigolds (they keep pests away). Great renovation job! Thanks for sharing.

Amazing people, like you, can only live in amazing homes! Thanks for the tour, and the before/after part; it gives perspective! The showing a home, is a very Spanish (Mediterranean) thing. I still cannot get used to not having that experience when invited to people's homes, and the weird faces when I try to show my home, in Iceland. Love your channel. As a child I lived in Madrid in the 60's, I think we lived in an apartment on a main street into the city which was cobbled then as we used to hear the horse drawn gypsy carts going into the city every morning. My Father was high up in the oil business, I remember we had a box at Las Ventas and had the cloak of El Cordobes draped across it for his first appearance in 1964. We had a maid called Amelia who used to take us to a stand (on a bridge?) every Sunday for churros and hot chocolate.

¡Saludos! For la terraza I suggest getting some big, beautiful pots for some tallish bushes or smallish trees that do well in containers. These can provide some privacy and dimension. In front of these larger plantings you can create an outdoor lounge. I also suggest that you contemplate creating a trellis where climbing flowers can grow. You might even grow a few grapes. The trellis will all lead to some outdoor lighting, a must for your magical evenings. Raised beds would be perfect for a salad and herb garden. Think out door living and garden space! I also suggest a water feature. This would be soothing and mask some of the sounds that can bounce around the buildings as well as lend your place tranquility. Finally, to extend your enjoyment, add an outdoor heating element.

For your entrance I would personally get a thin shoe wardrobe, (not ikea) you can get them so your shoes aren’t on show but you can use it as a side unit as well if tall enough, put decorative items on the top, vase, candle etc, key holder-. Even get mask holders online. I would put a mirror above it to open the space and make it seem bigger. Add a nice umbrella stand next to it, not sure what to suggest about coats, maybe paint the coat stand to make it appear more aesthetically pleasing. Lovely house.

Great video you all! My suggestions for the terrace are: A couple of larger Leon and lime tree in colorful large pots. 2-3 galvanized 1M-3M raised vegetable garden plot...(2-3 type of tomatoes, lettuce.c..) A few pots with herbs.....Perhaps a galvanized cooler on wheels that you can put wine, beer etc.) and finally a BBQ. I can see you all entertaining friends and new friends....Coming back to Madrid for a few days in May and then Real for a wine show. I rarely comment, but love your videos. Great informative easy going style. Thank you.

Dwarf citrus trees would be great on your terraza. Tall plants will soften the horizontal line of the walls, and the blockiness of the surrounding buildings. Bougainville on trellises in a bright color can be used for privacy or as walls to create outdoor rooms. It is so nice that you have a “clean slate” to create a wonderful outdoor space. Have fun.

When you were about to name your favorite book, I said out loud "One Hundred Years Of Solitude," and the very best first paragraph! You then said the same, only the best first sentence! Kindred spirits! I love the Rothko. You both are an adorable couple. Enjoy your new home. I am glad I discovered your channel. Thank you for doing. P.S. I don't have a clothes drier and I don't have a television, and I agree with Yoly's coffee and pastry breakfast.

I too like Rothko, yours is very similar to the well known Espana touristic symbol...place it in your entryway, above a small dresser which could hold a tray for keys, mail, etc., and a small lamp. Or a large bedroom type dresser, **painted a strong colour, and instead of clothing etc., place your shoes, and you still have a ‘resting’ place for your keys, mail, handbag, etc., on the top. ** use milk paint, so easy.

Add a wall coat rack to clear up that corner in the entrance. Add a tall vase with a plant in the corner, mirror on the wall with a slim bench or table to put a key bowl!

Hi, new subscriber here. My husband and I moved to Valencia from U.S 2 months ago. I’m from South Korea, and my husband is American, don’t speak the language so we are learning step by step! We also bought an apartment here and went through renovation, it was tough! After renovating our place, it was very interesting to see how others did it. Your home looks really nice. Thanks for good information, you guys should visit Valencia too 😊

When I was little, we always had a basket by our door that we put our shoes in. It was sometimes a bit of a nightmare when you were ringing out of the house and had to dig for the shoes you wanted. I think IKEA has some shoe racks that are a bench with a shelf underneath. However, I think they plainly come in white, which might not fit the decor of your house. You could always just buy a nice bench that fits with your entryway decor and then add a shelf underneath it so you can store all your shoes.

So much to say. But let's begin with how can I watch a video that starts with Yoly saying 'way' bigger and then miming sitting on the toilet? 😂😂😂 To tell the truth, I wasn't looking forward to this one. A tour of your apartment? Really? But it worked. I think it was the naturalness (is that a word?) and the fun. Oh and when I heard you had a sponsor I thought, oh no! I hate the overlong sponsor section that seems to begin so many videos. Well, you incorporated it and made it interesting and non-intrusive. Breakfast; I'm with Yoly. When I lived in Spain, I began every day with a visit to the bar next to my office, where I had churros and chocolate and a copa of brandy. Hey, don't judge 😜. For the terraza; herbs and maybe tomatoes on raised beds. You have enough room to be self sufficient without losing too much. OK, enough. I really enjoyed watching this, seeing the place and how you live. Is next week to soon for me to visit? 😎

The apartment looks beautiful, great job choosing the materials, love the hardwood floors, both bathrooms look modern and timeless, they will never go out of style, the kitchen is very nice and I love counter top, the subway tiles and the beautiful floor tiles, a mirror by the entry is nice, this way you can look at yourself (make sure you look good) before you leave the house, the terrace is great, what I would do is buy orange and lemon trees, and any other fruit trees that grows tall so you can block some of your neighbors, if the any money left, I would also buy a small fountain so when ever you are sitting outside you can listen to the sound of the water. Thank you for the apt. tour, you guys did an awesome job with the house.

I wish you’d asked about toilets before you installed the bidet. We have a Japanese washlet by Toto. Everywhere in Japan, they have this type of toilet which washes your nether parts. So clean, so sensible. No shifting over to the bidet! And it’s warm! That’s why we bought one for our home when we renovated our bathroom.

I am with Yoli on the coffee machine of choice! Use it every morning but also add a little hot water to make it tall. As for your terrazza, this is my passion. I would recommend a couple of large pots to house a multipalm (easy) and perhaps a lemon tree. Both are evergreen and will provide both pleasure and a bit of strategic privacy. You can get wheeled pot caddies so its easy to move about. Get lightwieght soil with coconut coir that retains water. Both are sun lovers. Also how about one herb bed and one salad greens bed maybe some potted cherry tomatoes (they do well in pots). Also a outdoor sectional for lounging! (ikea has a reasonable 'wicker' weather resistant one that has storage under the seats, that is what I am gonna get.) Happy gardening!❤y felicidades en sus nueva casa!

I appreciate the house tour. I realize that these things are personal, yet you are willing to share. You look great in the hat, dispite being difficult to travel with. Love your house!! What about a small bookcase in the entry way? Only 2 shelves high an not very wide. You could put 2 baskets on the bottom shelf for shoes (to hide them 😉) some pretty objects to reflect the colors nearby or wooden objects on the second shelf - and the top of the bookcase which is about waist high is the perfect place for a glass dish to hold house /car keys or even a vase or something to compliment the mirror you’re going to hang. 😊
