Why is everyone whining about the low exhaust? A KTM 450 Rally has an underslung exhaust pipe, just the end can is high, never heard Toby Price complaining about it? If Suzuki do release the rumoured 2025 DRZ with fuel injection and a wider ratio gearbox (at least), then this thing will have some very tough competition. Experience with the 2nd Gen Duke 390-2016 that actually is a 373cc is that the engine eats oil. Special 15W-50, no less. The piston is short skirt with only 2 piston rings. With a 12.2:1 compression ratio, it's 95 octane as per manual. Am using Petron Blaze 100. And it can't be used as a daily driver with moderate or heavy city traffic. It overheats very easily! Even with 70% Prestone coolant. KTM-Bajaj truly made it really "Ready to Race" with a TFT-boot up reminder. The newest generation (Gen 3) of this engine was revised to 399cc from info gathered. If it still has that ready-to-race piston with that 12.2:1 compression, requiring 15W-50 and 95 octane, its not a bike that will be no-overheat, low octane gas reliable. That said, it is impossible to have the pre-requisite reliability. The old 2nd Gen is definitely, utterly stupidly unreliable.
@SirOsisofLiverАй бұрын
I had a 2017 Duke 390. No issues with oil consumption, no issues with overheating, though the engine did throw a lot of heat when sitting in traffic. I had it until 2023, and it was perfectly reliable. A buddy who did more commuting on his did the reflash and upgraded the cooling fan, and that solved it.
@krisz6329Ай бұрын
Spal cooling fan. Slightly adjust the radiator angle. Head cover check and straighten where the gasket sits. Change head gasket. Duke 390 gen 2 never tends to overheats anymore.
@Zt3v3Ай бұрын
I doubt this would help your case but you don't want to increase your coolant/water ratio for "better" cooling. Pure water is the best for heat transfer. Ideally you want to run the lowest amount of coolant required to protect against freezing in your location. Coolant is for lowering the freeze point, raising the boiling point, corrosion protection and to some extent seal lubrication. The pressure in a cooling system is enough to prevent boiling at normal operating temps, a 1.2 bar cap will move the boiling point of pure water to around 240f.

Thanks for the spy shots, Solid. weird that that exhaust is so low, but maybe that's not the final product. Regarding weight, I think if they even kept it to 400 lb it would still be wildly popular. 30 plus pounds lighter than its competition and 50 lb lighter than a Tenere. Keeping something light adds cost, so that's something they need to keep in mind. I think this bike will be on the more value side of the spectrum, which will come with some concessions.

Looks good, but as I feared from the spy shots, it's basically just a dressed up Duke. Wish it had rally fuel tanks, perhaps Rade Garage or Aurora will make something.

Worried about the cost, would love to add it next to my Desert X.

low exhaust could mean they are trying to reach 160kgs??? also it would not burn your luggage and it would keep your rear tire warm for turning right...

Much better looking 390! Will be looking forward to some ride reviews

Ha that's cute KTM. I was hoping it would be lightweight and have good suspension. I'll go get a Kove 450 rally now. They shouldn't have scrapped the planned 490 twin... The 390 motor just doesn't quite have enough power to ride on freeways - uphill, into the wind, no chance of reaching the speed limit.
@appymarleyАй бұрын
You obviously haven't ridden one then..it has more power than a 450 kove
@colinbowman8816Ай бұрын
@@appymarley 44 hp < 51 hp. *shrug. You're saying the 390 adv has a higher top speed than the Kove, despite having ~14% less power, stock for stock? That'd be a bummer.

That exaust should lend the bike to having full equal luggage both sides. For me it will be price and what extras aren't subscription paid.

Demo exhaust.
@SomeRandoInternetPosterАй бұрын
If the price is right, based off the CF Moto these will be very popular, if they prove reliable. It’ll likely be made by Baja so hopefully more reliable than the 7/890’s. 390 so minimum electronics so KTM won’t bend you over backwards and lock you out after 1,500km and ask for more money to unlock your bike again.

KTM Guys : I wud never buy an ADV bike with exhaust exposed underneath. Also KTM Guys : OMG that exhaust is so trick! Genius!

but travel suspension seems 150 mm IMHO too short.

If they can get a 390hp into a 300 sized bike that 400 will be the sweet spot.
@NoName-c4y7hАй бұрын
Nobody could handle 390hp, but most could handle 390cc.😂
@leeinwisАй бұрын
The 390 and Z400 are already that, barely weigh more than a 300.

I’m waiting for the enduro version and the supermoto version
@glennboy66Ай бұрын
Not a fan of that front guard shape or the very high screen but overall it looks the goods. If its got 300mm of clearance and suspension travel and is around 160Kg wet it should be a big winner. Not sold on the exhaust for being practical off road, Id rather a slip on with integrated cat that could be changed easy for something like a wings or acro slip on. Im guessing 12-15 grand

More versatile options in this weight range is good for the genre. I’m looking forward to seeing the rrp.

Looks good! If it's reliable and has a 4+ gallon fuel tank, it will be a welcome new ADV bike. I like the black and white prototype camouflage, but anything is better than horrid KTM orange. 😀

It will be probably the second small adv which doesn't weigh a metric ton (after CRF300 Rally)
