My Dad passed when I was very young, and my Mom used to play this song over and over until she cried all the tears out. She missed my Dad so much. It hits me square in the heart to hear this song today, since Mom has gone on to be with Dad. I'm nearly 60 myself now, and some songs can reduce me to tears.

@@Hobodeluxe960 I am so very sorry for your loss, my friend. I just had a dear childhood friend lose his wife of 34+ years and his 30 year-old son on the same day. That's a shock that is unfathomable to most, and were it not for his deep faith I'm not sure how one would cope with it. "Into the Mystic" is another song that can evoke those feelings, you're absolutely right. I know it rings hollow without our loved ones here, but do have a Merry Christmas. I'm sure your wife would agree, let it be a day for happy Christmas memories and a day of hope for Christmases yet to come. God bless, friend!

The year was 1968 and this song (Honey) was a number one hit for Bobby Goldsboro. A song about a widower reminiscing about his late beloved wife. And the fond memories of a short life they had together. Beautiful and heartfelt reaction by this lovely couple.
@54nomore

This was a monster hit back in 1968. It charted #1 on Billboard, Cash Box and Record World respectively. This was Bobby Goldsboro biggest hit and signature song. A widower reminiscing about the life he once had with his beloved late wife. And who is still being good after her death. No matter how crazy she might have seemed. Or how much empathy she had about the little things. Her husband loved her all the same. When she found out she had cancer and knew she did not have long to live. Is when he saw her crying in the middle of the day. To him he thought it was something over nothing. Later he realized why she was crying. And that little tree she planted when it was only a twig. Has grown a little because it wasn't long ago his Honey passed away. A true tearjerker.

How can you state she had cancer? If you listen to all the emotional tidbits, it sounds much more like a suicidal, hippie wrist slicer??
@jenniferlloyd9574

@@gbh5912 Honey wasn't suicidal and they weren't hippies because the husband worked and they had a mortgage. Most wives stayed home in those days. Honey was tender-hearted, silly, gentle and sentimental. Angels come to take people experiencing unintentional deaths. I know they were making house payments because you don't plant trees at rentals.

The husband is "being's good" so that he can join Honey in Heaven someday. He knows she's in Heaven because Honey was just naturally good, but the husband has to work at being a good man. Like so many of us...

As a music person (I was a professional musician/singer/songwriter/entertainer for 25 years with my three brothers) I have an in-born love for music - I'm talking about real, honest-to-goodness music! Ballads, rock and roll, country jazz, popular, r&b/soul.....most all genres of music contain good as well as bad music - I'm an appreciater of any music from any genre as long as it's good music. I know that everyone has their own interpretation and opinion of what's considered "good" but I know for me what good music is! This Bobby Goldsboro classic tear-jerker may be the saddest but loveliest song ever written........there's a fine line between manipulatively sad songs and heartfelt sad songs. It's all in the melody, arrangement and vocal delivery, and "Honey" has it all! I dare any man to listen to this song and think of his wife/girlfriend and not well up!

This song was a HUGE hit in 1968 and catapulted Bobby Goldsboro to stardom. Tearjerkers were still very popular and it's easy to sese why it was such a big hit. Because of the Vietnam War I think a lot of people at the time could relate to having someone they loved die suddenly.

Bobby Goldsboro was an American pop & country singer-songwriter from the 60's-70's. "Honey" was his biggest hit but he had a lot of great songs including "See The Funny Little Clown", "Summer (The First Time)", "It's Too Late", "Little Things", "Too Many People", "With Pen In Hand", "Hello Summertime", "Watching Scotty Grow" etc. Some of his songs were performed by other artists such as Brenda Lee, Dolly Parton, John Denver.

As you started your intro, you were CLEARLY not ready for what you were about to hear (I internally cringed for you). You were so upbeat and happy, not realizing what was about to befall you, which made the reaction that much more honest. It just shows us the power of music to make you FEEL something the artist is trying to convey. I grew up to Bobby on the record player, he was my mom's favorite and we had a bunch of 45s of his (and elvis of course).

@@2wolfmom981...Not sure I get your meaning but btw, I much prefer the big hit by Terry's wife, the gorgeous Susan Jacks/The Poppy Family from Vancouver Canada, "Which Way You Goin' Billy?"-#1 in Canada and #2 in the US in 1969...(see link below). Apparently Terry was not a good husband and Susan was glad to be rid of him. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4OaqqSmd6yqjJY

6:00 I want you to name a comparable song today in any genre but Country music, where they still sing about their love for mama and papa and true love and building a home together with kids and love for God.
