Fun fact about Honey. 1968, when released, it went quickly to number 1 on the top 100 pop chart, and sold 1 million copies in THREE WEEKS. Now remember, back in those days, that song would have been stamped as an A side on a small 45 RPM vinyl record, with another song on the flip or B side. There was no internet, and big concert hall appearances were rare yet. So, you or I would have to have heard it played on the radio, ran down to the local record store, and purchased that small vinyl record with 2 songs on it. And we did....over a million in less than a month. A truly epic recording, and a message about life and appreciation for those who share ours, that will always remain timeless!

Bobby Goldsboro was an American pop & country singer-songwriter from the 60's-70's. "Honey" was his biggest hit but he had a lot of great songs including "See The Funny Little Clown", "Summer (The First Time)", "It's Too Late", "Little Things", "Too Many People", "With Pen In Hand", "Hello Summertime", "Watching Scotty Grow" etc. Some of his songs were performed by other artists such as Brenda Lee, Dolly Parton, John Denver.

My best friend had one of those portable record players. I can't count how many times we sat on the floor in her room playing "Honey," "Tell Laura I Love Her," "Patches," "Teen Angel," "Last Kiss (Where oh where can my baby be?" "Endless Sleep (The guitar!!!) " And we would have so much fun crying over the tragedy songs. I mean, we were in 2nd and 3rd grade, so tragedy seemed the best king of romance.

I was the one that made the request. Thank you so much for reacting! This song means SO much to me and my family. I can't say I know any other song by him, but this one...this song was the first record my grandma bought my grandfather. We lost her in 2016, and played it at her service. Unfortunately, we lost him in 2018, so he's back with his Honey.

I grew up listening to Bobby, via my mom (I was 3 when this song came out). I was disappointed by his reaction, I don't think he got it, or he has a heart of stone. I've been making the rounds of people reacting to this song tonight, and I saw one woman openly weeping when she realized what he was actually singing about (her untimely death). Despite some people's theories, it was not about his wife, it was written by someone else. My mom was taken by the "Angels" back in 2014, and I miss her every day. Sorry about your grandparents, like the song, I hope you have many fond memories of them, they will live inside you and your family.

A song about a widower recounting all the things he loved about his late wife, who died young resonated with a lot of people when it came out in 1968. Tearjerkers were still very popular in the 60's and this one definitely hits different. Bobby Goldsboro had other hits, such as "Watching Scotty Grow" and "See the Funny Little Clown". Some of my older cousins liked him.

He was born January 18, 1941 and this song was from 1968. He would have been 27 here unless it’s a performance from a later year. But he does look pretty young here so this is probably from when the song first came out thus making him 27 here.

I was just listening to this yesterday, and looked up the lyrics because I didn't know if Honey was sick or committed suicide. I was really surprised at some of the listener reviews, saying that the husband/singer was abusive because he laughed at her, and pretended to be mad about the car. To me, they just had that teasing type of relationship. I always thought it was a sad, sweet song.

There is a channel on you tube called “13 Greatest Hits of Bobby Goldsboro. These are the songs I remember from when I was growing up. (I turned 60 in June) You may find these songs interesting as well. (Bobby also sang the theme song from the Burt Reynolds’s comedy Evening Shade (1980s?) and when my son was young there was a children’s program produced by and featuring the voice of Bobby Goldsboro, among others… called the Swamp Creatures of Lost Lagoon! (Featuring puppets as I remember it.) As I was watching your video it hit me that you are likely much younger than my son, and I am sure he has no clue who Bobby Goldsboro is!! Kyle loved it!

I was only 6 when this song came out in 1968. My dad had it on a 45 and that's how I learned it. It wasn't until much later that I understood it's depth. I had always thought that Honey passed from some illness, but after really listening to the multiple times her crying over nothing was mentioned, I believe she had depression and committed suicide.

This is probably one of the schlockiest tunes in pop music. Imagine teens initially falling for the sentimentality and then a few weeks later the laughing started and alternative lyrics. He has a nice voice but the song brought out the worst in some teen-agers.

Many thought this song as silly. Yet, I am sure, as they and I matured they saw a different picture. As most went through life we suffered the loss of our parents and close relatives. Ultimately the loss of one's spouse. I lost my beloved wife 9 months ago after 50 years together. My perspective now is much different than when I was a teen. Only those suffering a great loss can fully relate.
