He wrote it for his wife and had never planned on recording it but was convinced to record it and it was a huge hit and still awesome today 35+ years later. You should also listen to When I’m With You by Sheriff. And also Sad Eyes by Robert John. ❤

Every rock band had to have at least one ballad and this was Styxs. I danced to this at my 9th grade Winter Dance...to many years back to count. lol

I am especially enjoying that you two seem to pick out unique songs that aren't done by every other channel out there. The late 60's to early 80s were phenomenal time and there's enough fantastic music to give a first listen to for many years to come without even repeating the ones that everyone else always does. Although there are some great that you cannot avoid and should listen to even though they are done by other channels. You are doing a great job thank you

This is a pure ballad Dennis DeYoung wrote for his wife's birthday, and later it made it on the album "Cornerstone". Dennis never liked being away from home for long periods on the road touring, and this song refers to him sad to say goodbye he must be leaving again. Styx's songs are mostly rock and many have a dynamic of quiet parts that burst into harder stuff, like their first hit "Lady" which was the first ever power ballad by a rock band. "Prelude 12/Suite: Madame Blue", "Come Sail Away", and "CASTLE WALLS" written by Dennis are also like this. Note: Do NOT do the "Official Video" for "Come Sail Away" as that is a shortened cut-down version for MTV. Rather checkout the album version or live from 1983's "Caught In The Act" or 1996's "Return To Paradise". With Tommy Shaw and James JY Young also lead singers and songwriters, STYX has a wide variety of song styles. "Fooling Yourself", "Man In The Wilderness", "Crystal Ball", "Blue Collar Man", and "Renegade" are Tommy Shaw songs. "Young Man", "Man Of Miracles", "Miss America", and "Snowblind" are James "JY" Young songs (with help from Tommy on Snowblind).

Their name is from the mythical River Styx. The river is the river you must cross when passing from life to death, from earth to the underworld.

The lead guitarist Tommy Shaw hated this song and it was part of why he left the group.

Tommy didn't leave the band, he led a rebellion and pushed Dennis DeYoung out of the band he originated. For decades they've been in court battles over the rights since Dennis wrote the vast majority of Styx songs but the younger members tried to prevent him mentioning the name Styx out on his own.

This is not an 80’s band they are 70’s. Not on a soundtrack that I know of.
