Absolutely show those little things you tend to overlook. And get Sammy in the seat more often.

You know Joey, I've heard of a few people planting cotton here in the past but not much. A friend of mine had an International 684 and it was an outstanding tractor. Once Sammy starts cultivating, Your days may be numbered.

Awesome video! shaping the beds made it look really good and the shot of both tractors coming across the field was spot on, plus Sammy looks like a natural on the tractor once he gets comfortable on it you’ll probably have to fight him for seat time 😂 Sunflowers and cotton should look really good across the field can’t wait! Super neat video thanks for filming it!

That was great letting Sammy start learning how to plant. When I was young kid living with my parents, we had a 2 acre garden, by the time I was 10 years old I had been thought basically how to do the whole thing working and planting. Maybe it’s time for you to start teaching and let Sammy start learning.

Really enjoyed this video. First time I ever seen the bed shaping plow. Man that’s nice. Sammy did a good job running the planter. You planting cotton reminds me of when I was a kid. Every night all the stations on TV would go off at midnight. Right before they’d go off the song glory hallelujah would play. And the song would say wish I was in a field of cotton, old times there are not forgotten! Look away look away Dixie land ! Love that song, love your videos ! Sorry for rambling on ! God Bless You Guys !!!

Joey that 685 is a good tractor. We’ve got one we put a loader on and it’s a hoss for its size, and I need one of those small bed shapers. You will have fun with that cotton. We I was in high school we were planting about 2000 acres of cotton.

Good job Sammy! Cotton got to be a big thing around here in the 90's. Not so muck now, but i still some every few years in rotation. I used to go to the Gin Show in Memphis every year with some friends of mine that grow it. I enjoy growing sunflowers also. It's all tractor work. Bedding, planting, and cultivating with no harvest. Lol

Yeah I was gonna ask when I saw you planting cotton if you had to get approval. Here in SC and other southern states, you can’t grow cotton ornamentally unless approved by the state dept of agriculture who has to come and set boll weevil traps, etc. I think the reasoning is they wouldn’t want the boll weevil to spread to the commercial fields where it could decimate it. But if he’s doing it for photos for the venue, he probably got the approval on his end (I think NC has a similar rule structure). I was looking into getting approved to plant some until I saw the price of a 50 pound bag of seed 😂 Excited to see y’all’s come up and grow!

Have your friend check out Texas Blue Bonnets, they make awesome fields for wedding, children, family pictures. I have caught High School Seniors taking pictures with my 1948 IH KB5 hay truck, I just told them to ask first, next time. It was only 20’ from the side of road.

Good plan on swapping plates and see what works through the season. Make sure you have a Farm Log to record what you do when and how and even thinking about what to plant next year. I have about three years of the farm log from our family farm and it's interesting to look back and educational for today. Cotton should be fun. I follow the Griggs Farm channel and he does a lot of commercial level cotton farming.

Yea following what you do over say a weekend, those small tasks and combine it into a weekend video around harvest or garden prep, yard work, firewood handling etc. It would make your channel appeal to many more people besides tractor people. Cause like you said your not a 140 channel but that seems to be the direction it has gone cause it initially gained you traction. I think I we might all like to see those small tasks. See the way someone else may do something that we never thought of or we don't do it that way.

Job well done young man. Them rows are way to long for me, my Dad planted from fence row to fence row. When we picked beans, we had to pick the whole row, nope ain’t doing it. My Truck Farming friend fabricated that same unit, with the raised bed maker with the rolled plastic mulch installer.

@@JtwesJoey as a very young child I picked some cotton, and “chopped” some too. Not fun as I recall! My cotton sack was a flour sack with a strap sewn on. The adult sacks were huge. All manual back then. More money in rice ( if you had the allotment) and soys. Cotton became unprofitable in that area of AR.

That wasn’t cotton seed😂. I still can’t get used to seeing the acid delinted seed. My Granddad planted cotton and it was mechanically delinted seed. You had to have a “cotton” bottoms for his IH 185 planters with an agitator rod to prevent seed bridging in the hopper. Make sure you file with your local FSA to get government support prices for your cotton😂😂.

I was wondering why the cotton plate I found for my planter had such big holes. I was thinking no way.
@stanleyharrell6009
@stanleyharrell6009 2 ай бұрын
Yes. Also you may have found a Hill drop plate. But those typically had only 4-8 holes per plate. Farmers used to pla t cotton 3-4 seeds per Hill and about 12-18 inches apart. But my Granddad's cotton bottoms had about 24 or 32 cells per plate. He would literally "sow' the cotton about 2-4 inches apart and then we "kids included" would go chop cotton and thin the cotton plants out.

Lot of things are done differently now days. It is good to know how it “used to be” done and sorta hang on to the past. Hopefully we as a nation/people won’t have to go backwards. But one needs the knowledge regardless. Your friend Sam is “finest kind” but you realize that. Having folks like Roger and Sam in your life is such a blessing. Thanks for sharing.
