It was comfortable because not crowded and probably not on busy hour such as morning and evening. Before covid you will feel like sardines inside 😅. There's travel restriction too. But yes it is very cheap.

FYI the correct name of this system itself is "COMMUTER LINE" operated by Indonesia Commuter Rail Company (PT. KCI). "KRL" (stands for Kereta Rel Listrik) is Indonesian term for "Electric Train" (EMU/electric multiple units). It doesn't matter if it's a metro, commuter, intercity, or high-speed train... if the train runs by Electric Power it is still classified as "KRL".

I think if you are planning to stay in Jakarta for quite a long time you should buy an electric money card (i.e emoney/flazz) so that you can top up the balance and use the card for any public transportations in Jakarta (i.e Transjakarta/Busway/KRL/MRT) that will save you from the hassle and save much more time and you don't have to buy one-way ticket everytime you use public transportation.

The Jakarta Commuter Line system using entirely ex Japan trainset from Tokyo area. So the quality of the train was on par with some suburban line (not main line) in Japan. You can take as far as Rangkas Bitung (76km from Tanah Abang) to the West and Cikarang to the East. The south terminus was Bogor and North Terminus was Tanjung Priok.

Hers's a good advice, never go to Tanah Abang - Manggarai - Jatinegara line everytime it's rush hours. And there's was a recent change in the route where the loop line is now only serving Bekasi / Cikarang line, which pissing me off as Depok resident.

Hello Mark, if you will use public transportation again in Jakarta, i recommend you to buy mandiri e-money or bca flazz card in alfamart or indomaret that located in many location in Jakarta, with those card you can use all of public transportation in jakarta like KRL, MRT, Trans Jakarta, Airport train, even paying toll gate just with 1 card and you don't need to come to station/bus stop counter again, just go to gate and tap the card, very simple

Maybe nextday you should try taking the KLR from Tanah abang station to Bogor City, and you can explore the city of Bogor, the trip from Jakarta to Bogor by KRL is only 45 minutes and the ticket price is only 6000 rupiah 👌🏼

Actually the transportations're major recent breakthrough, ever since Jonan became our transportation minister, back then krl was so dirty, and train stations had a lot of street vendors, beggars, who even went inside the krl. There were no gojek neither, i think gojek started in 2015/16, public transports were lousy before those years.

after arrived at tanah abang station u can use a transjakarta bus and stop at nearest bus stop at the mall.. thats the way if u want to explore about jakarta public transportation. between transjakarta bus and commuterline already connected just ask people how to get one to another one. because using grab car is u need to spend more money
