Yes, Dion is still making music. In fact he just released a single last month called Angel In The Alleyways. His current music is more blues and gospel.

Cracks me up how younger people react to songs of the past. They hear the words through a different filter. Music back then was fun.

One of the greatest white soul/blues singers ever. He has been recording for 60 years and he's still making brilliant music. This artist is one of the all-time talents of the rock and roll era. Buy his new albums -- they are FABULOUS! It's actually a sad song -- he has a lonely life without anyone he really loves. It's not the simple song people think it is.

The 1979 block buster movie "The Wanderers." Was an 'Multi Ethnic Gang Movie Comedy' played out in the 1960's New York City. It pitted the Italian gang 1. The Wanderers.' 2.The Baldi's gang that were integrated. 3.The Chinese Gang the Wongs. And 4.the Black gang 'The Mau Maus.' All came together to fight against the Irish gang at a football game. It was an all-out brawl that helped to create a friendship among the gangs in the end. It is worth watching...And how relevant it is today with race relations being what they are.
@tekay44

that's a terrible take, it wasn't about race at all. at all. the bad guys were an Irish street gang, just like all the rest. stop with the white hate.

There was only one gang that the Wanderers, Wongs and Mau Maus fought against at the high school football game and that was the feared city-wide Irish gang, the Ducky Boys. Their membership numbered in the hundreds. The skin-headed Fordham Baldies didn't take part in that brawl.

This song was released in November 1961. Maresca had co-written Dion's previous number-one hit, "Runaround Sue", but originally intended "The Wanderer" to be recorded by another group, Nino and the Ebb Tides. They passed on it in favor of another Maresca song, so Dion was given it as the B-side of his follow-up single, "The Majestic", a song which his record company had chosen for him. The record was turned over by radio DJs who preferred "The Wanderer", which duly entered the US charts in December 1961 and rose to number 2 in early 1962 (behind "Duke of Earl" by Gene Chandler). It also reached number 10 in the UK and number one in Australia. "At its roots, it's more than meets the eye. "The Wanderer" is black music filtered through an Italian neighborhood that comes out with an attitude. It's my perception of a lot of songs like "I'm A Man" by Bo Diddleyor "Hoochie Coochie Man" by Muddy Waters. But you know, "The Wanderer" is really a sad song. A lot of guys don't understand that. It's "I roam from town to town and go through life without a care, I'm as happy as a clown with my two fists of iron, but I'm going nowhere." In the fifties, you didn't get that dark. It sounds like a lot of fun but it's about going nowhere."

Dion Francis DiMucci was born July 18, 1939 to an Italian-American family in the Bronx, New York. He developed a fondness for the blues and doo-wop musicians he heard performing in local bars and on the radio. His singing was honed on the street corners and local clubs of the Bronx, where he and other neighborhood singers created a cappella riffs.

Dion started with the Belongs in the late 1950 and had big hits with I Wonder Why and A Teenager In Love. He went solo in 1960 and had a number #1 hit with Runaround Sue in 1961 and A #2 hit with The Wanderer in 1962, followed by big hits like Lovers Who Wander and Ruby Baby. Ruby Baby and The Wanderer are my personal favorites from the early period, mainly because as a Tenor Sax player our bands would get dancers on those songs in the early 1980s. The Tenor Sax solo is ridiculously easy to play. I played correctly and with gusto the first time I sat in with a friends band.

Sadly, Dion DiMucci succumb to drug addiction, and the British Music Invasion lessened his popularity. In 1970, after a Christian religious experience, he had a big hit and critical acclaim with Abraham Martin and John. That's where I lost track of his career, but he is still making music and releasing new music as of 2021. It has a more bluesy, Gospel flavor. By the way, I subscribed. There are only 3 KZbin music reaction channels that I subscribed to, and yours is on of them. I'm nobody of importance, but your channel is very enjoyable.
