Ben and I have been filming cars for 3 years, and yet we've never taken our own cars to the track. This weekend, we finally got an opportunity to do that. It was eye opening and humbling to learn more in the hot seat! We're definitely hooked now and can't wait to do more Track Days!
Come out and drive with us at Hyperfest!

I remember my first track day. I firmly believe if you’re into cars you should at least do 1 track day just so you can learn your car and how it behaves in a controlled environment. Going to track days has really helped me understand not just my car but my abilities to push it and what to watch for! Great job

Prius Hunter there are other outlets. I’ve tried drifting and you learn car control too but if you go to a sanctioned racing organization, they have instructors with plenty of experience. My first event was with NASA TX and it was awesome. But you are right you can learn other places by sometimes learning from professionals is the best.
@MrMikeDao

It's the ultimate sanction to learn the limits of your car, as you shouldn't be doing it on the streets anyways. And even if someone takes it to the streets, they'll never achieve 10/10ths of the potential of the car as opposed to track days. There you'll learn slip angle and how to stay within that.

I just want to thank you guys for being a continuing inspiration for my son and I. Watching your videos with him gives me so much hope that we can truly achieve the dreams he and I share, to build and race cars together. We've got some time, since he's only 5, but when I find myself feeling a lack of motivation, throwing on some G&G always hits the right spot to pull me out of it.

My first track I wasn't ready for at all, lol. I showed up the day before to settle in, and then I was gonna do a tune up, and valve cover gaskets on my car. I had all the stuff, but i took the throttle body off and the gasket ended up breaking, so I had to run into the parts store. I hopped into my tow rig to go into town, and the radiator cracked and blew on the way to the parts store. Luckily I made some new friends, (another good reason to do a track day) and they came and help tow me back to the track. I literally made it to the drivers meeting, and tech my car in with no front end, or hood 😂😂😂 I had all 4 blown shocks, and all the tires were rubbing. That didn't stop me. After that event I have become addicted. I truly recommend doing it, even if your race car is down, and you have to take your 2003 Ford Taurus out to race, which I have done. Seat time is very important.

Just did my first track day 1-2 weeks ago. Was a lot of fun and a lot of learning about my own car's capabilities. A few mods I would recommend doing though to keep you safe and give you some confidence in your own car. Stainless steel brake lines so that debris doesn't just come from out of nowhere and hit your stock rubber lines and all of a sudden, you can't stop. Pads and rotors are another. You don't need drill or slotted as blanks are fine but a quality rotor would be safe to have as some cheaper ones can crack. A performance brake pad like the Hawk HPS or EBC Yellow so you don't experience a ton of brake fade out there. And one thing last thing I highly recommend is an extreme summer tire to build your confidence on the track. I have Falken RT615K+ and absolutely love them. They aren't just a stickier tire for you to go faster but also, IMO, give you a bigger margin for error. If you're coming in too hot in a corner, let go of the throttle and hope the car slows down enough and still grips the track. I've seen a few times where people went in to a corner too hot and kicked up dirt. And of course, with how sticky they are, you have a lot of confidence going into the corner and really seeing what your car can do. Keep your car 100% stock until you get more seat time. Engineers made your car to feel neutral from factory. Until you start to reach the limit of the stock stuff, don't touch anything on it.

awesome you guys got behind the wheel! VIR is by far my favorite track and NASA is by far my favorite organization. you all hit the nail on the head about not modifying the car and taking out what you have as long as it's safe. modify as you grow as a driver with your car. I've been doing this for 4 years now and I've gone through the de1-4 with NASA as well as their time trial and comp school. it's an awesome organization and I look forward to sharing this video to anyone else ever looking to get started

Track days run anywhere from $170-$250 for a day and you can usually get a deal if you go for the weekend. NASA also has a yearly membership fee. If you are using DOT tires you can usually get a few track days out of them (I did 4 last year) and brakes vary as well. Fuel is the big thing. Most tracks have pumps, but you will pay a premium and if you are running e85 most don't have that, so it's a good idea to have a couple spare cans. (I get about 4mpg at the track). You have to have a Snell helmet for all events, but for HPDE you don't have to have fire suits, gloves, racing harnesses or a specially prepped car. Just have all loose items out, spare out and make sure the car is properly maintained as you will have to have it teched. There are quite a few groups that run events around the country now, I've done some with a group called Auto Interests as well as NASA and they were pretty good. autointerests.com/content/rules
