Got pregnant this January and was so nervous the first experience was awesome!! But was also emotional! I also didn’t want to know the gender so they emailed me all of the results and I sent it to my mom she told me the down syndrome results were negative and then found out the gender when I wanted to! Found out I was having a boy and had him Sept 27th! The worst symptom was the sickness which I was put on ondansetron which helped so much and everything else was great! Congratulations!!!🎉

My kids are all grown my oldest is 34 and my twins turn 30 on the 26th of this month. With my oldest I only had one ultrasound. With my twins, I had a great OB/GYN, although I was in labor for 5 days, because they were early by 6 1/2 weeks. Had to get medication to mature their lungs. Baby A was 5 pounds 2 ounces and Baby B was 4 pounds 6.6 ounces. Baby A was in NICU for 3 weeks and Baby B for 4 weeks. My oldest was 7 pounds 9 ounces 18 3/4 inches long Baby A was 16 inches and Baby B was 15 1/2 inches. Not sharing their names bc I don’t think they’d want me to. Anyway, my story is so old lol 😆 can’t believe I’ve been a mom over 34 years. You’re going to do just fine. I never comment, but I watch most every video as soon as y’all post them! I love you guys and think you’re the greatest!!! ❤❤❤❤

With my first baby they did the ultrasound on my belly and couldn’t see the baby so they did the one that goes in. And there it was. I was super emotional because I had a miscarriage a year before and was very nervous of bad news. Now my sweet boy is 9 months old 🩵😭

Stop calling them entitled. They’re FIRST time Parents. They want the BEST doctors/Nurses that care and will give them information and help. That’s what they’re supposed to do. Why would YOU want someone that went to school to become a Dr. touching you/your baby and they don’t have an ounce of love or care in their hearts?? Ultrasound tech here! She used a transvaginal ultrasound! This is used during the early stages of pregnancy, to get a better imaging of the baby!🫶🏻 Congratulations to the both of you, you guys are going to be great parents!🥹 also I love your videos!

Radiology/ past OB nurse here! Nothing abnormal at all about that US. They almost always do transVAGINAL ultrasounds at your first visit versus an abdominal ultrasound due to the baby being so small and the vaginal ultrasound gives a more detailed view of your pelvis. Always ask whatever you need to and advocate for yourselfs and ALWAYS remember (esp when you’re in labor) that you can ask for a different nurse and even doctor if you feel the need to. As a high risk momma I know the short appointment seem frustrating but the shorter the appointments are it just mean you are healthy and baby is doing amazing congratulations 🎉

Ive had 4 kids, vaginal ultrasound is typically what they use at the first appt because they dont know how far along you are and its more detailed for early pregnancy when the baby is small. When your early in your pregnancy (like 7-8 weeks) the stomach ultrasound might miss things or not be able to see a baby at all.. the international one is only used in early pregnancy for the most part. Since you were already 12 weeks they really could of used the stomach ultrasound and saw the baby, but you didn't know how far along you were, so that explains the internal option. Your first appt is mainly paperwork, urine sample & sometimes a quick ultrasound. That first appt is more so just to comfirm pregnancy. 12 weeks they do a detailed ultrasound and also at 20 weeks there's a detailed ultrasound. congratulations, ive been a subscriber for about 5 years, so happy for yall ❤

As a mom of 4, totally normal appointment! Your ultrasound tech did amazing, she isn’t supposed to give any info besides due date and number of babies visible at first appt. All of the info you need to know you will go over with your doctor!

Alyssa that “thing” that they put in you it’s only for the first appointment. Your other appointments will be in your belly. You don’t get to ask questions because you’re early and it’s your first appointment too. But get use to seeing the baby for 5 mins max maybe even less. They do this all day so to them is a regular thing.

I highly highly suggest a midwife! They are usually more personal, and caring. My midwife was so amazing and our appointments were a little longer so that we could discuss questions, and how I was feeling and all that good stuff! Congratulations! 🎉 🤍

I'm watching this as an Ultrasound Tech and I definitely felt everything they were saying. I tell my coworkers all the time, scanning the babies isn't the hard part it's making sure all the parents feel special. Even though we may scan 5 or 6 babies a day, it's important to make sure everyone feels special. Honestly, we're just there to make sure the baby is growing, has a heartbeat, and we don't see any abnormalities. The OB doctor can answer all the other questions.

I do kind of agree with the comments. The first appointment is just to kind of verify your pregnancy. Most OBGYNs won’t do ultrasounds like that, usually at your 20 week scan again (which I know you’ve already done at this point) and once or twice towards the end if your lucky. I would suggest finding an office that offers 3D / 4D ultrasounds. You pay for the ultrasounds so you will be able to spend more time seeing your baby & receiving more high quality pictures of little babe & even live videos!

Don’t freak out momma lyssa!! That was just the nurse and she actually did her job lol those wands are used for early stages of pregnancy, they won’t do the belly one until you’re further along, and of course you had questions!! This is your first, that’s why when I scheduled my appointment I made sure I could see the doctor because I literally had questions written down on a notepad 😂😂😂 you definitely have a million questions! It’s ok, I’m sure by now you’ve had the regular ultrasound lol awwwww sooo cute a liddo forever baby ❤️❤️❤️

I work at at a OBGYN typically the first appointment isn't too long. You see the doctor, ultrasound and then lab work. Then depending on what they saw on the ultrasound your next appointment can be between 2-4 weeks possibly with another ultrasound. Congrats though on the baby so happy we all get to be on this journey with yall.

This is typically how the first appointment goes. The vaginal ultrasound is always used at the beginning because the baby is smaller & it’s more accurate. However, go with your gut. I switched offices halfway through my second pregnancy because of that reason. They were unprofessional and I felt rushed. Also my advice is after you have your baby if you’re feeling some sort of way or you’re feeling the postpartum depression definitely check in with your doctor immediately. There’s no shame in it. It is normal. Always sleep when your baby sleeps. Your rest is more important. Don’t let anybody make you feel guilty for choosing formula or breast-feeding and trust the process you won’t get a routine down for a while and that’s ok ask for help too and please try to keep a hobby going so you don’t feel like you lost yourself in motherhood don’t feel guilty for needing a minute to yourself as long as your baby is healthy happy safe fed and dry you’re killing parenthood already you guys will be great parents and I’m praying for a safe pregnancy journey❤

I will add though, short uneventful appointments are actually a blessing. It means everything is normal/typical with your baby and with your pregnancy. You want that. What I did for the extra special longevity and magic of my pregnancy that wasn't just for a medical reason to do the most minimal ultrasound was go to a private ultrasound facility who literally do so many special ultrasounds, with soothing music, different angles, hour long ultrasound where you just get to watch your baby move around, see so many angles of them, and they're really inexpensive too. Typically between $100-300. It is true however, that a lot of medical professionals have become so desensitized to the whole process of pregnancy and can make you feel like just another number in the assembly line (for lack of better words). I had to remind a Doctor during my first time being in labor who was really insensitive towards me that I am a human being with feelings... Literally treated me with such lack of empathy when that was literally my first time going through labor and scared. I had to remind her that while it was a typical work day for her, that was the scariest thing I had ever been through and her being cold to me was unacceptable. Make sure to always advocate for yourself and MAKE them listen to you. You are the patient, it is your body, and your baby and you deserve the best care!!

The first appointment is definitely a short visit. It's literally just to confirm pregnancy. I was a little shocked with my first baby as well. However, from the video she told you all the information you needed to know. They confirm pregnancy, tell you the dos and don'ts, and get you on prenatal pills . But it's important to find someone you feel comfortable with. I love my Dr. I literally feel like she is my therapist. I just go in there and start telling her everything. 😂 And yes it's normal for them to do the first ultrasound that way at the first visit. Glad you found a Dr that you love.

An ultrasound tech is just that. When you have your first prenatal appointment that is when you ask all your questions and get to know your doctor. The tech did her job that’s all she was meant to do.

When I was pregnant the appointments were always short and sweet like that too. I had no idea what was going on usually too because they don’t just tell you these things you do unfortunately have to ask lol. GET A MIDWIFE. they’ll be way more comforting supporting and helpful for you throughout your journey. Can be costly but look into it!!!

Lol just like the many other comments, that was a pretty standard appoinment. The ultrasound part; for the 1st appointment they use the wand bc typically the baby is so tiny that the one over the belly won't pick it up, but since you were further along your baby looked huge on the screen....the wand gets closer to the baby than the other one 😅 I know this is a huge life changing moment for you guys, but for them it's just another day at the office, so sorry your 1st exprience didn't feel as great as you wish it would've. You'll have more check ups but not as often, until you hit your final weeks of pregnancy. If everything is good, they'll mostly check the heartbeat, ask if you're good and if you have no questions, you'll be out in 5 mins or less, really. I wish there was a way we could've prepped you for that 1st appt. without knowing you were pregnant lol Please don't think that 1st place was awful, unfortunately most places look like that, but I'm hoping you have a better expeirence with the new provider you chose. ❤

I’m a general ultrasound tech (I don’t do babies) and this video and comments made me sooo happy I don’t do babies. That tech did nothing wrong. She did her job exactly as she was supposed to. She’s not the doctor, she can’t answer all your questions and give you all the info you want to know. I thought she was friendly and as informative as she possibly could be for her scope of practice.

Girl, you’re not alone with the bad first appointment. It took me almost to my third trimester to find my perfect doctor. For the first two appointments that I had, the ultrasounds were very basic and I never got good pictures of my daughter. I had one ultrasound guy who didn’t even turn the screen on for me to see my little girl sucking her thumb. Every appointment I left I was crying and heartbroken. Once you find that good doctor all the stars align. I’m happy you finally found a good doctor that you feel good and comfortable with. The first ultrasound they usually use the wand if you’re early. But you can also deny the wand and they have to use the external ultrasound machine. But they should’ve explained that to you, which is wrong on them to not explain that to you. I am excited for you guys and can’t wait for your little bundle of joy to be loved. PS, I would suggest you guys look into doing a 3-D ultrasound. My mother gifted me a 3-D ultrasound scan which allowed me to finally see my daughter’s face and it is a memory. I will always hold close to my heart and cherish.

GET A MIDWIFE OR DOULA!!! You will have a better experience overall! Doctors offices (like OBGYNs) see many many people for different reasons. A lot of the time they don’t have the emotional/ mental capacity to give everyone the experience they need/want.

Just had my first baby this past November! My first appointment was so emotional and my doctor was great! It was a quick appointment and most of my appointments actually were. One thing I loved was after the medical examinations if we had anything to discuss you go sit in his office. Loved not having to sit in a sterile exam room to have a conversation. Definitely felt more personal. I will say, do your research! There will be a lot of things that will come up that you need yo know about, especially with delivery!

You always get vaginal ultrasounds at 1st since you normally get the 1st one around 9 weeks and baby still small for regular belly ultrasound… and yes apts are so short the only long one is the 20 week anatomy scan. I was also shocked on how quick they do the ultrasounds I just had my baby in March and expecting my 2nd in June 2025 I did IVF with my 1st and this one was natural as you can imagine I was in shock when I found out. Congrats! This is literally textbook what a first appt is like for any pregnancy (I’m having baby #5) and all first appts are just confirmation appts, quick, internal ultrasound, some lab work, and then you get scheduled with your Dr.

DEFINITELY ignore the comments that say your experience was normal. If it didn’t feel right for you then it wasn’t right. I had a very bad experience as well before and can definitely feel the difference with just the attitude alone and how the nurse/doctor treats and whether or not they care about the patient. I didn’t like that nurse’s attitude at all. She seemed annoyed with you already. I’m glad you found someone better. You deserve to be treated amazing during your pregnancy! That’s literally how it always is and I have two children. But there are ultrasound centers they give you a more intimate experience, but they cost more and not covered by insurance. So you really have to pay out-of-pocket for a more intimate experience. Also, ultrasound centers are not physicians so you may have a more intimate experience and get more photos 3-D and 4Dphotos . And cute gifts like the heartbeat inside of a bear. But it is not a doctor‘s office.

I feel all doctors appointments are like that. For my first baby, the doctor only did two ultrasounds throughout my whole pregnancy. What I did for my second pregnancy, was write down your questions before going, that way you know what to ask in that moment . ❤ God bless you all 😊

It is really hard to find a good doctor! Ya that was a transvaginal ultrasound. They usually do that at the first visit to see the baby better since it’s so tiny. The normal ultrasounds come after. That was probably the ultrasound tech. I always saw the ultrasound tech and then would see the doctor after the ultrasound. I wouldn’t worry about it or feel disappointed regarding that first appointment. What yall were expecting will come after.

Okay so normally I don’t comment but looking at these comments that’s so disappointing. Charles and Alyssa are not being entitled. This is their first baby! And they want to make sure as first time parents they’re trying to do the right thing. They’re letting us in on how they felt and their experience of the place. However, I will say Alyssa and Charles have a point. In my opinion, I feel as though if you take your job serious and your passionate about what you do, you should 100% take the time to get to know your client and ask questions and be that open door for them to ask questions. As Alyssa was describing the place, me too, I would not go back. Presentation speaks volume, when you go out to a restaurant or ladies when you go a nail salon if the place is beaten down or doesn’t look presentable you guys would not go back. Alyssa and Charles, you both did the correct thing to go with your gut and find a different doctor.

Vaginal ultra sounds are normal for your first one and depending on how far you are will depend if you need another one. NP don’t usually do long appts at OBGYN appts in my experience and I have 6 kids. They just kind of filled in for my Dr when he wasn’t there. Also in my experience when I had ultra sound appts I didn’t really get to see the dr much and ask questions. Usually those are just strictly for OB appts not ultra sound appts. Maybe it’s different for other places but I’ve never had any other experiences than you just had. These appts are never long really. Maybe 15 min if that so don’t feel too bad about your first appt. You have so many fun ones coming that you’ll be happy about things. I am glad you found another place that fits your comfortability I am super happy for you guys. Congratulations again.

Congratulations! I didn’t get my first ultrasound until I was much further along. Unfortunately the doctor doesn’t have a lot of time to spend with each patient as they have many appointments throughout the day. They would get so far behind if they did. A really good book to get is “What to expect when you’re expecting” so helpful with many questions you may have.

Mama Lyssa, I say this with love, you mentioned you’ve only gone to the obgyn for exams like every few years. You should be going yearly, it’s SO important for your health. I think if you regularly went to your obgyn you would know what tools they use, screens etc because it’s all the same. Your first 20 weeks appointments are super quick. You rarely see the doctor. It’s all normal. Ultra sound techs cannot give you medical advice or answer any questions they’re not doctors. Ultimately, you do need to find a doctor and place you feel comfortable with. After baby please keep up with an obgyn regularly🙏🏾

They used the stick on me too especially if u arent showing they might think ur too early on but that stick sees the baby way better then the stomach one , once they see how far along and the second time around u wont need that one. The visit is always fast unless u have an issue health wise it may be longer . Blessings to you both 😍❤️

My first experience was horrible! Way worse she didn’t even talk to me directly and when she did she was very rude, she never asked me if I wanted to take the blood test and when I finally decided to switch ob the new doctor was so shocked at how bad of a job the previous dr had done. Even the glucose drink they gave me was expired by like a year and I didn’t notice till after. I had chronic anemia due to my pregnancy and she never even told me that which cause two of my teeth to brake which had to be taken out with only local anesthesia which was the worse experience of my life. My heart was broken at how bad it was and especially it being my first child and not knowing what to do or expect. But I was so glad I switched. I’m still traumatized about ever going thru that experience again. But I hope your pregnancy goes smoother from here on out ❤ love you guys and congrats on your healthy baby 💖💖🌸🌸🌸

It’s amazing how Charles can be part of this new journey. I got pregnant 2021 and gave birth 2022 and my boyfriend could not be in the room the first few appointments.. I love you guys so much and it’s just a blessing that you guys can do all these appointments together ❤

I had always had irregular monthly cycles. So when I found out I was pregnant, I was almost 16 weeks. But the time I got in to get an ultrasound, they were able to tell the sex of the baby. So she puts the monitor on my belly and says "oh there's a boy in there". Then she runs the monitor across my belly and says "on, there's TWO boys in there"! And I said WHAT?!? And my husband said WHAT?!? And the student nurse in the room says "OH. MY. GOD"! And now 23 years later I have these amazing identical twin sons that are my world!

This is exactly what happened to me. Most of the appointments are pretty quick and they are just trying to help you figure out the quick stuff. But then I ended up having a high risk and my baby wasn’t growing properly. So I was constantly seeing the doctors and being able to ask more questions. But you should be able to ask your doctor all the questions that you need, also they definitely did the transvaginal ultrasound because they didn’t know how far along you were. But the farther along that you are now, they’re definitely gonna do the one on the stomach. Btw my daughter is 8m and she’s doing amazing no health problems!❤ you got this ask all the questions it is a big deal find a office you love because when I was high risk my doctors were amazing but the fist visit was so underwhelming!

I was lucky and got a specialized prenatal nurse for my first appointment. We didn’t have an ultrasound scheduled and they didn’t do them in clinic. The nurse and I sat for at least an hour! She was so informative, sweet, and answered all of my questions! Honestly after leaving I was thinking wow, with how the medical system here goes, I feel other moms probably rarely get such specialized attention. I noticed the energy of your nurse right away and i would’ve been pissed tbh I’m so glad you guys found a different clinic!

She is a nurse ! Lol she is only to do ultrasound and check baby. Only the doctor can give you results about whatever the nurse sees and all questions go to the doctors lol the ultrasound is normal lol when babies are bigger then they start using your belly to check baby ! That appointment was pretty normal in my opinion

Glad you changed doctors, something that is such a miracle as for going through a pregnancy and giving birth especially for the first time you need a compassionate doctor who is gonna walk you through all the steps to make sure you are comfortable and understanding every step of the way. Yeah the first ultra sound is usually that way lol I was confused too when I went thru it 😂 I also had to switch doctors in the middle of my pregnancy. Do whatever you have to do to enjoy and be comfortable with your first pregnancy 😊

I found another OBGYN office and my doctor is night and day, amazing.

Not sure how things work in the USA but damn I sensed a bit of attitude. As an Aussie🇦🇺 Mum of 3 I’ve experienced nothing but kindness, compassion, reassurance & not feeling like I was “just a number”. From my experience they have a very good bedside manner with expectant mothers. Hotline phone numbers if we have any questions or just want to chat about our concerns etc. The technicians showed excitement during my exams & calmly talked me thru everything I needed to know. Glad you guys went with your gut feeling & sought out a doctor that gave you what “you” needed. You aren’t just advocating for yourself anymore you are advocating for you baby. 🥰🙏🏻👼🏻

Y’all should considering hiring a doula. The relationship is so intimate and you’ll have that 1-1 support to ask questions. Sometimes you can get it from a midwife but medical staff are so busy. ❤❤❤

My appointments during my first pregnancy were like that where they would be so sort and didn't get to have time to ask the questions I had but I still asked them anyway, this pregnancy I'm in now I have a different doctor who takes the time to listen to my concerns and if I feel like something is off she doesn't have a problem with doing tests to see so I'm glad you found a new doctor. Always go with your gut feeling bcuz at the end of the day it's your baby that your carrying it's not the doctor's baby so they don't know what your feeling so they will try to push the things you say off but always go with your heart mama.

Usually the first ultrasound they use the intrauterine ultrasound. Normally the first ultrasound people aren't far enough along for the baby and heartbeat to show up on the regular belly ultrasound. I've had two pregnancies and both for the initial/first 2 ultrasounds it is done via the intrauterine ultrasound.

The transvaginal ultrasound is very normal. I had one at first because when the baby is that small they can’t see it. It was like that because they were not the doctor but it is a bit weird that they didn’t ask you if have questions and everything.

So happy for you both, with your 1st baby on the way. How special. As far as your aptment goes, that is pretty normal/standard for your first check in. I've usually informed the hospital where I plan to have my initial paperwork & some tests done. Usually I'm 8 to 10 weeks on those aptments & the 1st scan is planned for the 12 or 13 week scan. It's usually with the device on your belly. Most often used. I only had that for my aptments. The aptments are usually with a pleasant midwife. Main thing here, you've now found another practice & doctor who will give you the time & energy your looking throughout your aptment.

Congratulations guys again!! It’s ok if you weren’t happy with your first dr. All that matters is you’re happy with your dr now! Transvaginal ultrasounds are not always done at your first appt. Most offices will ask when you’re start of your last period was and estimate from there on how far along you are. I was 9W2D at my first appt and had a transadominal ultrasound. I joined every group on Facebook, downloaded all the apps and read the what to expect when you’re expecting book! You can do all the research but EVERY baby is so different! And what works for someone might not work for you guys! You both will be amazing parents and so excited to be on this journey with you guys!!! #teamboy over here 😊

Pregnant with my second currently and everything looks how it should!! First ultrasound is always transvaginal since they never know how far along mom is. From now on itll be normal ones. Be prepared that once you get to the third trimester, you will no longer have ultrasounds!! They only due them if youre high risk or if they need to monitor baby due to health concerns. Im in my third now, so we do doppler and measuring belly. OBGYN is very dry at the appointments, but COMPLETELY NORMAL

My very first appointment with my twins was very uncomfortable too however was blessed with the BEST doctor later!!! I agree with others that listening to your gut to switch was best!! You both and baby deserve the best love, care and attention. It doesn't matter how many pregnancies docs have had the blessing to be a part of, yours deserves to met as if it was there first!!!! I'm happy that you both want the best and shows how much you love your baby!!!!! 🤗 I'm proud of you both and sooooooo happy for you!!!!! This is the greatest gift!!! Life!!!! Book a multi session ultrasound package at a place that does them just for you to see baby not exactly for medical reasons. I went to Baby's Debut. They will do ultrasound several times throughout your pregnancy including the 4D ultrasound to see baby's features. It's great for the added reassurance. Doesn't cost nearly as much as an ultrasound for medical purposes.

My first apt was underwhelming too.. I had such high hopes and it was a huge letdown.. I ended up changing drs and loved the new ones but felt they never really listened to me about my body.. and it was my first baby too. We were super excited to be first time parents and it’s with your loved ones that you have to do these things with.. the drs and nurses are so jaded and they do this 100x a day.. ❤

When I got pregnant the first time, a nurse took my husband and I into an office and went over an entire packet worth of first time pregnancy information. It was literally an hour long! They should def do something like that.
