Good morning! Another great video! I was surprised that you don't eat the turnip greens. I grew up eating them and like them. In fact, I like most all greens as long as they are cooked. I love lettuces and spinach raw for salads, but enjoy cooked spinach too. Have you tried cooked turnip greens before? You can season them with bacon fat, ham or other smoked type meats. Those watermelons looked delicious! I was jealous of your chickens & ducks! 🤣🤣🤣 I hope you & Frank have a blessed day! 💙💙💙

Thanks Carolyn 💜 We aren’t fond of cooked greens. We do love spinach, Swiss chard etc raw as you mentioned and unfortunately I just didn’t get those planted this year. What we don’t eat the chickens always benefit from and make us beautiful eggs ☺️ They demolished that watermelon in no time!! Blessings to you and S. 💜

When my daughter was about 2 years old we raised chickens, like about 75-100 and they were free range. When the eggs started to come boy everyone came and got off us. When I had a scrap bowl my daughter would take it out to them right off our back porch and they knew what she had and ran up to get what they wanted! Oh the memories!

Wonderful memories 🥰 Our chickens come running every time we come out the door and if we don’t have anything for them they look so disappointed 😢

They sure made short work of that watermelon 🍉Indeed, it is a giving garden 🙂

They love any kind of melon and since it’s still so hot it’s refreshing for them!

Great video and such a lovely day. Are you going to save any of those cucumber seeds? The sugar rush peach are supposed to take a long time to get that peach colour, up to 80+ days, and aren't they a hot pepper? I really enjoyed this one, and watching the two of you with the chickens was a treat. Thanks for sharing the video, and yes , I giggled when you told us you forgot to put your mic back on!!

Thanks Anna 💜 I didn’t know about the 80+ day pepper thing so thank you! They are a hot pepper but I’m growing them for a friend. I only realized I didn’t put the mic back on when I started to edit the video!! The mic was still clipped to the plant 🤣

I feel the same as you- getting ready to put the garden to bed but dreading the winter. We've had summer weather here, too (Minnesota) so I'm still harvesting from the garden. Your garden is beautiful and I enjoy seeing the chickens get treats!

Thank you Mary 💜 It’s bittersweet at this point in the garden. Our chickens get so many treats (all healthy). If we walk out the door empty handed they look so disappointed 😂

Oh my goodness they are loving that watermelon 🍉 your turnips are beautiful! I grew the sugar rush peach a couple years ago, I don't remember mine not turning this late but I do remember they were pretty hot! Your garden is still doing well, we tore down all our morning glories from the big arch, they are pretty but oh SO invasive😮 thank you for another fantastic video!

Thank you Carmen 💜 The sugar rush peach I’m growing for a friend (we don’t do hot peppers) I just can’t figure out why they won’t turn colours 🤷🏻♀️I grew morning glory once and it took over my whole garden! They are beautiful though 🌸

Hi Becky, I know some folks like the greens..we aren’t fond of them so the chickens benefit from them 😉 Cooking the turnip with a ham hock sounds tasty though 😋

Watering in the middle of a sunny day doesn't hurt established plants...only newly planted plants...if you live near large acreage vegetable farmers note that they water around the clock. Also watering with fish during midday sun is ok...some farmers use fertigation and like straight watering it is done around the clock 😊
@JustTheTwoOfUsHomestead2 ай бұрын
Thanks Christine 💜 Just from my own experience I find watering in bright sunshine can burn the leaves but the sun is lower in the sky this time of year

I have watched Becky on Acre Homestead grow those peach peppers, honestly I dont think they were much different in color than yours but you can check her channel too see how different they look. They did take quite a while to mature, they are also pretty hot I believe.
