I'm sharing our homeschool routine and talking about the difference between a schedule and a routine. And find out why a simple schedule is working better for us this year.

Yes bedtime is a very big struggle for large families!! :) Family of 13. Sometime kids to get to bed till a few hours after you send them to bed....lots of talking going around when they're suppose to be sleeping. We start at 10,get most school work done by lunch which is 1pm. Then we I want the 3 youngest down for a nap( 3yr old, almost 2yr old and 4mth old)we do our read alouds. Some days this doesn't happen as smoothly as we'd like, life happens we just go with the flow then. I just got the SWR and the cursive first...finishing up this school year(we end June 30 and start the new school year August 1, have the month of July off for swimming lessons, bible camp, vbs, and all the kids are in 4h so it's fair time in July)!!! Thanks for this video, thought maybe our schooling was too simple but seems somewhat just like yours, just different curriculum.

You’re cracking me up with “that one child”. I have one too. Time deadlines and getting dad involved have helped. Finding their motivation is hard. When they want to do something, they are very hard working, so I’m not sure lazy is exactly it. It’s more subtle defiance.

Hi! I just subscribed after watching this video. Really love information you’re giving. This is just what I needed. In-depth with details about how to manage different ages of kids in the house. I am new to homeschooling so I absolutely don’t have any experience. I have five kids now from one month to nine years old and I was so anxious about how am I going to juggle homeschooling and every day things I have to do. So this video is very inspirational. :) looks like a bit of a schedule is just what I need. I would love to see more videos like this. Thank you❣️

That sounds like Managers of their Home by Terri Maxwell that you described in the beginning. 😂 That's that old school homeschooling!

We are doing a similar schedule this year. We have a routine that is on a light time schedule because I have one child that can make math last 2 hours if I don't have a loose time schedule set. I have also included and over-time system. What this means is if said child is dragging her feet on math or whatever subject, they get to finish it when daddy gets home with daddy. Because my school day of teaching is done and I am writing a curriculum for our co-op or making dinner or dessert.

Hi, would u share some of the ideas u used if a child didn’t do the assigned item at the time u assigned it. I’m thinking just because u designated a time doesn’t mean they always did at the time.... especially a lazier child. Thanks for all the great info in ur videos!!!

I'm happy to hear your schedule, we do a similar style schedule. This is our first year homeschooling and have only done 10 days so far (we are on vacation this week!!), sonwe are still figuring it out and tweaking things, but I found setting that start time for school beneficial as well. I have 4 kids doing school (plus 18mo as well!), and they can get up and eat whenever but we'll be starting school at 9, so if they want to eat before that (which I HIGHLY suggest to them, as it helps their attitudes), they need to get up with time to do that. And so I generally wake them up about 8/815ish if they're not up yet because again, it benefits their attitude to have that adjustment time from waking up to school time. Then we do school mostly one at a time since we only have 1 computer right now and our curriculum is mostly online, though we sometimes do a couple at the same time for ones who are on the same level for a certain subject. But because they go one at a time they were always fighting over who went first, so we do our group work first (we do Science, history and Bible, plus occasional art and music together), and then they draw sticks to see who goes first (deal was we pull sticks but they then can't argue over the order! Lol). So a kid or two gets their work going and at some point we stop for lunch and finish afterwards. Sometimes we have appts or things in the morning so we're still figuring it out how to work around those things, cause we already take Thursday's off, every other week I have MOPS (non "school day") and the off weeks we have a homeschool group lesson at the library (not a coop, but we count a school day for this). So we just do school until we are done. But when they're not actively working on their school work (not their turn), they do a few chores which they follow their chore chart, includes getting dressed, brushing hair and teeth, every other day baths, cleaning their rooms, as well as garbage, dishes, getting the mail, some kind of cleaning job, whatever job is theirs for the week. There are 4 chores that rotate around each week, plus feeding the animals rotation, and the older 2 swap garbage back and forth each day, and the younger 2 swap the cat box each day. Their chores are expected to be done by 5pm and dinner time, if they want any electronics for that evening, after dinner. Daddy is gone right now (military), so after dinner they get electronics time and that's my own chill out time from schooling all day, and doing any cleaning duties I need to do.

Hello Janelle! I just subscribed to your channel. Wonderful info! We've also graduated a few children, and have two at home in school, and one in college. We are using monarch through alpha omega for our 9th grader, and it seems to be taking her way too long! Do you have any experience with this curriculum? We've not used it in the past, So we're trying to decide if we need to make a switch. :)

We are doing BJU this year as well. They have so many subjects how do you manage to get it all done in a short amount of time. How do you cut yours down and still manage to get everything they need in each day?

What do you do for consequences? I've tried setting a start time for school and my daughter will not abide by it. She's 7... Doesn't like school....
