Agree on distressed assets. My wins are 50% from distress assets. It requires more study and acumen but the rewards are worth it.

Another most enjoyable video. Full of humour too. And I agree with the general consensus that each of us must have his own way. And really nice to see AK again! Hindsight is a terrible thing when it comes to investing. We will always be saying "what if...". But sometimes we have to look the other way and say "if I didn't invest...".

isn't what Victor shared on distressed assets called "cigar butt" investing? The idea behind cigar butt investing is akin to picking up discarded cigar butts that still have a few puffs left in them. In an investing context, this refers to finding companies that might be temporarily undervalued or distressed but have the potential for a short-term improvement or turnaround. Warren Buffet started with this approach, but later shifted to what he called "high-quality businesses at fair prices" as opposed to "low-quality businesses at bargain prices."

Hi Shin658. Nope. It's very different from "Cigar Butt" investing. Cigar Butt really is just buying low-priced stock in struggling companies that's worth more than their current share price. It doesn't exactly take into account the quality of the company. You may look at Victor's approach as a combination of quality + distress. The idea really is finding the reasons for the "distress" rather than just cheap.

Kind of the opposite. Alibaba remains strong structurally, but the demand/sentiment for Chinese stocks among investors is awful. Meta faced a structural risk, but the sentiment for U.S. stocks in general is still positive.

@@Roy_0692 There are customers for every tier (premium, mass market, value, discount, etc.). In our opinion, the threat of Pinduoduo is competition; we can't say that it's a permanent structural shift in the Chinese consumer landscape. Also, there is nothing stopping Alibaba from competing on Pinduoduo's turf.
