Sailing La Vagabonde

Sailing La Vagabonde

Күн бұрын

Woohoo! We made it through the famous Corinth Canal - Greece. The canal is 8m deep and excavated at sea level so it doesn’t need any locks. It took them 12 years to make it and it was first opened in 1893. The canal shaves off a 700km journey around the Peloponnese peninsula and around 11,000 ships pass through each year, mostly small vessels that can handle the narrowness and are able to dodge the result of landslides the sit under the surface. Join us on La Vagabonde as we cruise right on through with my pal Kayla and of course Daniel usually hiding somewhere behind the scenes. Videos made with love, SLV xo

It was a pleasure meeting you guys and even more having you over for dinner. You're two amazing and special people and a very unique couple! I would love to have you two around but as we all know, sailors' life has its surroundings change every day. Safe seas, take care and share what most of us dream of.

I've been to Greece 3 times when I was much younger and loved it. My eldest daughter's piano teacher is from the islands and she goes back every year. I was waiting until my kids have grown up a little more. They are 9 and 6. Maybe next summer!! We are Canadian.

I believe Riley said “that’s alright” at 4:20 because he fought his urges to tell Elayna’s friend not to jump on the trampoline. They mentioned in another video that when adults jump on the tramp, it’s not good for the ropes.

man this feels like such a different time - I guess it was hahaha. We all change and grow, it's just not incapsulated in video form like this, so it feels a bit trippy sometimes. Also, miss the amazing song choices, totally get it w/ copy right and all that hassle, and now we have more cinematic tunes, which are also amazing! I appreciate, and am thankful that these videos provide so much comfort and nostalgic feels. Whenever I hear the old songs in my playlist I'm immediately transported to La Vaga. hanks for all the hard work you do! Cheers, guys!

The Corinth Canal is something to see, when I was Greece I saw it out of the corner of my eye as I crossed one of the bridges. I had to stop its really unbelievable how much work that had to take to complete. It was great to see your video it brought back many great memories of Greece. I plan to return some day its a great place to see. The people are very nice and the food was great. Also the Greek Cicadas that are all chirping in your video really make me want to return, in the summer they do this all the time.

Always love going to Greece. The hospitality of the Greek people restores my faith in humanity. Wow! Kayla's gorgeous! Nice one on picking Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, always loved that one too. A quick tip for Med mooring : Always moor up as though your life depends on it. The really damaging winds aren't forecast and they come from nowhere, at any time of the year, or the day/night. My mate tied up in Turkey, and they got hammered by a 30 minute blast. Their wind gen spun so fast it disintegrated (1m long carbon blade just missed the hull!) On the quayside the metal street lamp poles bent 90deg. No cafe awnings or outdoor furniture left anywhere & two parked cars blown into the dock. The bit that isn't on the tourist brochures :-)

Hi Elayna Riley, I see you are heading for Canaries. Have been binge watching the whole set as a 'Johnny come lately', now Patreon. For me as a sailor, compelling viewing. Nice to see Serifos, my second port as a very inexperienced bareboat skipper, not much different. We didn't have a Meltemi melt down though, that happened to us two days later at Anti-Paros/Despotica. Great stuff, well done. Dave

Wow just another stellar video. Love absolutely love those drone shots through the canal! Elayna running through the boat with the camera was great too-gives a realistic feel to it all. Riley, gotta say I like the haircut!! The dogs pulling the ropes was so much fun. Even though you didn't linger on it, I appreciated what appeared to a little bit of an emotional moment for Riley, in the coming full circle of La Vagabonde from when he started the journey. You've come a long way Riley (you too Elayna)! Troy, you do such a fantastic job that sometimes I forget you're even there! You are appreciated!

Everything is so beautiful there.....thanks!

We spent two nights along this very canal on Halloween, in 1970! We hitched there & slept out under the stars on a moonless night, walked to a tiny town in search of a candy - for Halloween - and strolled back in the dark on a tiny road, walking in the middle, trying not to finish our chocolate before getting back to our sleeping bags. In the daytime, we sunbathed on a rocky little beach, then positioned ourselves on the side of the canal at a low point, after watching boats, cargo ships & cruise liners get in position in the bay, waiting to cross into Corinth. In some cases, they barely squeezed thru...the hulls having what looked like only INCHES on each side! People on the water waved to us as we jumped in the air, waving madly back to them. I remember collecting three different types of peculiar little two-colored stones with an angled stripe in the middle on the beach that day.I kept picking out smaller & smaller versions of these smooth stones until my boyfriend, Geoff, approached me with his hands behind his back. "I found the perfect one for you."He said. I was touched, and held out my hand. He placed his out, palm up. "Here" he said. In his hand was one tiny grain of sand. Very funny! I guess I WAS getting a bit obsessive.🙄 what an adorable guy...making fun of me was his favorite passtime, which further endeared me to him. Later on, before returning to London, I decided to sort my duffle bag, and get rid of some things. It had become quite heavy. Instead of discarding the books, rocks, postcards, magazines & journals I had accumulated, I left a stack of clothes and a pair of shoes on a chair in our hotel room, in Athens, with a note for the maid. I suggested she take what she wanted, and share the rest with friends or family. It was some pretty cute stuff, but I just couldn't part with my collections...plus the 3 books a Greek fellow had asked his wife to gift wrap for me...which turned out to be two Reader's Digest CONDENSED BOOKS, and a bizarre PORN novel translated from Russian, which I read aloud to Geoff and Fred& Arawana, our traveling companions, on the beach. It had very large print, and we each read chapters aloud, finishing in an afternoon, laughing in fits.Oh god we just howled, as this fellow had presented himself as the "most intellectual man in Nafplion". He had studied "Hospitality" in Italy & Switzerland for 3 months, for his job at the Board of Tourism in the Peloponnesus. It was hilarious. It's great to see this canal again after all these years, and recall that trip where we stayed above Nafplion for weeks, sleeping in a cave under the Roman ruins of a fortress high above the Mediterranean. We would venture into town, where a tiny hotel manager let us shower & wash our clothes in a room for free, then hang them to dry in the courtyard while we had breakfast. The residents of that little fishing village were all so friendly and welcoming...inviting us into their homes & once out to a taverna where they danced & flung plates on the floor. Once, in my effort to speak Greek, I ordered Metaxa for us all. It took FOREVER to arrive. When the waiter brought a platter of POTATOES to us, they all laughed at me and my failed language abilities. I'm loving your videos, kids! I've been bingeing on them for a week now...out of sequence...and have enjoyed every one so far. It's a pleasure to witness such a lovely relationship between two people under some stressful times...and even a BABY added! You are an inspiration to the world with your positivity & kindness...and mutual respect. It's good medicine to witness in these troubled times. Sending love from San Francisco from a former East Coast sailor, now an aging landlubber who occasionally takes a sail on the YachtRuby around Alcatraz, heeled over, listening to loud music, or to some hilarious tales told by the outrageous Captain Josh...an eccentric old salt who designed & built the Ruby, then sailed it around the world himself. You can see him at RubySailing.com. Stay smooth, kiddos! I'll keep watching!💗💕Lorraine

Thats probably her first time throwing a rope!. It reminds of the time I fist played softball during physical education in high school. I put the glove in on the wrong hand whilst playing catcher behind the batter!. Pretty much the whole year group was in the field watching on. THE HOTTEST GIRL IN THE YEAR was about to bat . I caught the first serve and I decided to through the softball back at the server with the gloved hand. Needless to say: the ball smashed in the back of the HOTTEST girls head, and instantly knocked her out. The embarrassment 🤦 and guilt was traumatic..it was a mix reaction from the crowd TO, some hissed and other laughed🙄 I guess IT COULD BE WORSE.
