Our homeschool routine has become so familiar to us that, as I heard one experienced homeschool mom say, "It feels like putting on your favorite old pair of jeans!" Our homeschool routine grounds us. It is what we are always aiming for and what we come back to when things get off track. Want to know what homeschooling really looks like? Yes, I need encouragement from strong mama’s like this. With 4 kids now I am reluctantly realizing that I can only be in one place at a time, and that my children need to become more independent the older they become. If she can do it with nine, I can do it with four, right?! 💕

Thanks so much for your kind words! I have seen our kids thrive on independent learning. They take ownership of their learning and come to me as a facilitator when they need help with new concepts. Four is a lot when they are all young, but it gets easier as they get older! You CAN do it!

This was great! Thank you. As a mom of four, I look to moms that have more kiddos for ideas because homeschool is very different for the mom with multiples as opposed to just one or two.

When you're working with the new readers do you get a lot of interruptions from the kids who need help with their independent work? Great video, thanks so much for sharing your day!

Thank you! Yes, I do get interruptions. It really depends on the day if it's a lot or a little. Some days the older kids need a lot of help it is hard to balance. Other days everyone is doing well and things are pretty quiet. On those tough days, I will usually tell the new reader to put it aside and we try again during afternoon quiet time. (For us, this is the time when toddlers and babies are down and the older kids have finished most of their academic work) Other days, we might drop it all together and try again tomorrow. Ultimately, we just keep moving forward, making progress every day...here a little, there a little. Because homeschooling takes so much less time with one-to-one ratio, I feel like we still make good overall progress.

Thank you Shari! What time do yall typically end your day? Ive been saving some things, like content area subjects, for when my twins go down for their nap in the afternoon but I'm finding I'm hitting a brick wall and I'm ready for a rest. I'm thinking we need to start earlier in the morning to try to be finished with most things by the time my twins take a nap.

Honestly, for me this has looked differently in different seasons. And those seasons often revolve around when we have a baby or any other major life events. I would say stay flexible. Your twins are going to be out of this stage in no time at all and you will be in a different stage, so if you need the afternoon rest now, I would figure out a way to make that work. Similar to you, I try to do science in the afternoon during nap time and some days I just don't have the motivation to follow through. We end up doing it only 2-3 days a week or I will sometimes assign the older kids to read on their own. Content areas are icing on the cake, in my mind, so I wouldn't stress over them. Especially if your kids read a lot, they learn so much history, science, etc. from personal reading.. Often I have gone to teach something to them only to realize they are already familiar with it.

Do you never worry that you're wasting so much school and learning time focusing on memorizing Bible verses and reading the Bible?
@OurLifeHomeschooling

Our kids have learned a a vast amount of world history, poetry, and so much more from memorizing Scripture and Bible reading. It amounts to about 15 minutes of our day which I think is a relatively short amount of time.

@@OurLifeHomeschooling I agree. We essentially do the same thing in my class. We call it SSR - student selected reading. They sit there and read for 15mins at the end of class. 😊

The Bible is the perfect book to learn to spell, read, grammar, copy work, and so much more. That's the book they used in the old days to teach. If you want to see your children's vocabulary reading skills improve, have them read the Bible. 😉 His Word is never a waist of time💜
