Congrats on your (Australian) wedding! Totally feeling you on how much things are. It cost over $3000 just to get my husband into the country (thanks, USCIS). There was no money left over for the wedding. So we had it in my sister's backyard, and we cooked the food. But in the end, with a small wedding you remember every bit. We've been to weddings with hundreds of guests and barely got to say hi to the couple.

Good deal for you all. When my mother's macular degeneration got severe she wanted to start listening to some audio books (books-on-tape) and this was mid-1990s and there just wasn't much she really wanted to hear (my mother was quite up-tight about most things). But when she went into the rest home those tapes went with her and soon made their way into the general rest home books-on-tape collection.

Congratulations guys. My husband and I had to go through almost the same thing here in Denmark. We entered into a "civil partnership" 19 years ago. Six years later we were able to get formally married. We didn't have to repeat the ceremony, though. We just applied for a marriage certificate, and when we received it our partnership had also been retroactively converted to a marriage. We wish you a long and happy marriage.

I got the Anthony Rapp book long ago - there is much in it besides Rent, one major focus of the book was his relationship with his mother and her original massive discomfort with his being gay and slow acceptance before her cancer death. Wonderful book! As for Audible, I love reading despite the fact that I, too, am dyslexic. Or lysdexic. Or something. So I use Audible with Kindle and can read and listen at the same time! Congrats on your ceremony - small is fine, you'll still look back on it with fondness in later years!

Congrats for another wedding, so what I want as well a beach wedding but I want it at Dusk going into night and like those tents with those giant bamboo stick fires and those hanging Chinese coloured lanterns (I don't know what they are all called but looks cool in my head haha). The status of civil partnership varies between states and territories of Australia. In the A.C.T., for instance it is very strong and for all purposes of Territory law equivalent to marriage. BUT that does not necessarily apply to Federal law. (Yeah, it's messy) So ... a need for marriage which is Federal law. Congrats!
