This video is very timely. Had a few moments myself today about how much I want to get done and how I need to spread myself thinly to try and keep on top of all of our growing spaces. It’s so much for one person. Your garden is pristinely kept. You both work very hard on it and it shows. Love all the different areas and especially loving the pallet planter. It’s so striking. You have gotten me in to Bidens. I hadn’t heard of them before you were sowing them, and I googled them. LOVE them Loved this video. Really important to understand we are not alone with these feelings. Thank you

That’s one of the things I love… getting to introduce folk all over the world to all the different plants I love. It’s amazing how many people grow King of the North peppers now, aubretia, flow, mims, bidens, foxgloves, even dahlias. When I did my first dahlia video so many folk who’d never tried them before fell in love. Its great.

Your comment “It’s good to say no, I’ve DONE stuff” making you feel less like you’ve got so much to do really resonated. Two months ago I had an uneven and slightly overgrown garden and am now in the process of getting it how we want it. It’s looking a bit like the Somme and there’s still so much to do, and often I can’t stand outside and enjoy the space because all I see is ‘what needs doing’, but this video has been a welcome reminder to realise how much has already been accomplished! Now have a greenhouse, three full beds and many buckets of spuds on the go! Thank you both, great work as always!

Gave me a much needed opportunity to take some time out, with a cup of tea, and realise I am not alone. Like you, I got so much done last weekend in the good weather, but in the mad week that followed, I forgot what I’d already achieved. So, thank you for reminding me to take a moment to look around and take stock of what I’ve done so far. Oh, and the local community allotment is going to be getting A LOT of seedlings from me this year. At least I don’t have to throw them away, so that makes it easier to say goodbye to them. Lovely video from start to finish. You hit the nail on the head about this time of year. I absolutely hate getting rid of healthy spare plants as well. I managed to pass on four cucumber plants and a courgette to our windowcleaner yesterday, he has an allotment and was really pleased. Sadly I have a dozen perfect tomato plants that are surplus to requirements but the neighbours and friends who had expressed an interest in any surplus plants, when asked in in the bleak months of January and February and no doubt with the best of intentions and thoughts of bountiful harvests to come, have now changed their minds now that Summer is nearly upon us. Compost it is then 🙄 Great drone shots by the way. I was so excited to get a drone with a view to taking it on holiday but they are banned on aircraft and cruise ships now. If I made videos like you I'd have one quicker than you could say Paypal!

It’s daylight until late and we just had supper and watched your vid. The garden looks Great! What I have realized is my tagging and note taking skills have fallen by the wayside because as I was planting peppers I came across a label or two with question marks on them 🤣🤣. Holy heck I have no idea 🤷♀️ I know I lost track potting up once but not twice. They will be a surprise just like the seed I thought was just dust and thought, what the heck and threw them in a winter sow jug-OMG! Thousands of something germinated and it’s like a thick carpet😅😂. I know I saved them for a reason and I think they are Spilanthes or ‘toothache plant’. Not sure but I’m going with that. Thirty one tomato varieties and 28 pepper varieties I should cut myself some slack 😂. Then I look around and realize there are at least 7 other veg that need to be sowed yet and wonder who can bunk with whom. If all this stuff grows it will be a jungle. Over-did perennials and some may be aggressive-yeah, so will need to deadhead. Love those blue flowers on the apple wall, never seen them before. I think there will be a lot of never seen before in this yard.

For your tender stem broccoli why don’t you get those mesh bags that a lot of gardeners use particularly in the winter for protection. You could take the layers of your planter put the mesh bag on top there’s a drawstring at the bottom you pull to tie up then put the rest of the segments back. I know it will take a bit of effort but you took the effort to grow your plants surly it’s worth it. Hope this gives you an idea that useful.

Really inspiring to see what you can fit into a relatively small space. I've got 5 varieties of blueberries - and still disappointing harvests! But I think they were too squished together so this year they all have their own large pot, ericaceous soil mixed with homemade compost, and a sunny position. Have you tried honeyberries? I have two of those (another one that does better with a pollinating partner) but they're fruiting now and they are gross lol. Maybe need to ripen a bit more... I also have new-ish apple trees with lots of tiny fruits on - I'm so excited! I guess I thought all apples pollinate all apples - oops. I assume on the plot though that there's enough apple trees about at least one to be the right partner!

The unpredictable aspect is always the weather, and here forest fires are already bad. Drought in a temperate rainforest zone, go figure. People here don't bother trying to save water for the gardens, "assuming" there will be rain. "Assume" often means 'making an ass out of you and me'. I prefer to plant according to the seasonal changes that happen with the changes in the Pacific Ocean currents. This year, dry, very likely stormy, either very hot and dry or cool. Quick crops, quick harvests.

It’s when your day job gets in the way of your priorities in the garden. I think they refer to it as a work, garden lifebalance. 🧐

Seeing a garden or plot via a drone is so helpful to not only oneself but people like me, better perspective of the overall size. Can i ask is your greenhouse on a concrete base, pavers, or gravel, how did you anchor it? Im looking into a much smaller size but anchoring is a concern. Thanks to you both. Were having similar weather and sea fog last week was the biggest ive seen since moving here. Thanks to you both. I watched a gentleman in either Netherlands or Belgium who uses pots so he can move things and fill the gap early, amazing garden. Could you plant your tulips/ daffs in pots , i find it takes so long for the leaves to die off here in Tasmania by when it was too late to get new plants in.

Our greenhouse is in paving slabs yeah and it’s anchored with huge bolts into concrete. We do that very trick with pots too… 😁

It probably was mentioned but what is that lovely white puff ball flower in the bottom far right at around 11:30. I’m only on year two of my flower, fruit & veg growing madness so still trying to learn as much as I can ❤

Hi Eli can I pick your brains. I’m trying peppers for the first time. They have been in the greenhouse and they are doing good should they be outside now? I’m just south of Glasgow and not sure with our climate….
@eliandkate6 ай бұрын
So peppers like temps of 15c and above I wouldn’t put them outdoors until the nights are a bit warmer. Peppers tend to go out after tomatoes 😉 When they do go outside, pick a sheltered sunny spot for them.

Speaking of pollination... would you happen to know the distance plants would need to be to each other for cross pollination (ie like blueberries and apples). I have a store bought granny smith that is said to be self pollinating in the side of my garden then I have some apple trees grown from seed in both the front yard and the back yard (so a decent bit of space between them but within our block). Should they be fine or are they unlikely to benefit from cross pollination when they are that far apart? Your flowers are looking lovely by the way!
@eliandkate6 ай бұрын
I’d say those should be fine space wise. Have a double check on pollination groups with your apples to make sure they are all a match…

Adding my two cents 😊 Here we say that you need another appletree, or a neighbour’s tree within 200 meters (1/8th of a mile). I think you wpuld be fine withe that spacing 🍏🍎
@cpoco6 ай бұрын
@@Ragt0p thank you for that... I'd say the four to five apple trees I have dotted around the property are within a triangle of a fraction of that distance... so indeed it does seem I should be fine :D
