Very informative video!! Just one question, how were you able to change the hydro plan to flat rate? We live in a condo and we are billed for our hydro via a sub metering company on timed rate method.

Hi Dharit, Thank you so much. Regarding hydro plan, there was an option on the portal itself , else you can call the company customer care and they will change it for you.

Hey guys. Nice video. I stumbled upon your channel yesterday. I’m also new to Canada. My expenses are also similar to yours but I’m paying a lot more for the insurance despite having a full license. Not sure if my broker is duping me. Could you share who your insurer is? Also, did you buy insurance directly or was it through a broker? Cheers Sam

Hey Sam, our insurer is Aviva and we approached them directly not via a broker as it was more expensive via the broker even for the same insurer. Try calling different insurance companies directly, you might be able to get a cheaper rate.

@@MicknChic Hi guys, thanks a lot for your response. Really appreciate it. I am quite surprised by the quotations here. I came from Australia a year back and swapped my Aussie licence for a full G licence here and I drive a brand new SUV. Not sure why I am being quoted 500+ everywhere, even with the companies. I tried Aviva just now and they gave me 400+. Their call center is closed today, I will call them tomorrow to discuss. Just curious, how was your journey with this? Did you do G1, and then G2? Did you provide your Indian DL history? Paying 500+ each month has been a real pain for me. Would love to know how you went through the process, what did you select in terms of history with G1, G2, Indian license. For me, even if it comes down to what you are paying, that would make a big difference to my cash flows. Look forward to your reply. Thanks a lot. Cheers, Sam

Hey Sam, we had to take the G1 exam and then the G test, Indian license cannot be directly converted to G license but the history can help you skip G2. In terms of insurance, below are the discounts we applied for getting a cheaper insurance quote. 1. Bundle offer (Car and Renter's insurance) but even without renter insurance our max cost would have been $280 as far as I remember. 2. Winter tire discount 3. BDE discount (Begineer Driver Education) you can get it before giving G test. Rest it also depends on where you lives hence your postal code, the car you have, deductible, and coverage you have opted for.
