This is a great example why we on the Corvette Forum preach to perspective buyers to get a experienced C-2 person to do the inspection. This won't be cheap, but it will come out looping new.

Wonderful job! I m from Portugal, my name is Fernando. I have a 289 Mustang GT I purchased in 2008 from a California colector in almost concours condition, stil wonderful to drive with no problems, only the anual big inspection.I would like in a near future to purchase a C2.

Chris you should let us blast that foam off of there. A couple hours blasting instead of scrapping.
@jonsingle16143 жыл бұрын
So what was the purpose of all the foam ?????
@theglacier33672 жыл бұрын
Either for sound deadening, and or for "structural purposes". This kind of foam was hot a couple of decades ago to "add strength" to a chassis by limiting the void space in the frame rails. The biggest problem with this foam is it can trap moisture and accelerate rust. Lots of OEMs in the 90s and early 2000s built their cars with this material.
@houseofno3 жыл бұрын
Wow! Thanks for uploading this! Always great to see your work. I have never seen a C2 MADE of foam before. Interesting if not correct. Early form of crash protection?

It's going to be fun following the build of the 66. I've never seen a Vette with so much foam. I wonder if it would float? Probably not

Wow, ok now yer talkin'. I'm so looking forward to the restoration process. If I can ask again: can you show the details of the (26 or so) steps involved in removing the body? What is the significance of The Foam? Why do people do this? Thanks Junior ... can't wait!

We're thinking either for sound insulation or an attempt to keep moisture out. I'm happy to report that the foam is long gone. Thanks for checking out my channel!

I’m very curious as to a ballpark figure on how much it will cost to bring this car back to full glory. I’m really interested in watching this project progress. I’ve wanted a C2 coupe since I was 10 and now that I’m a few years away from retirement and have been investing I’m hopeful to make that 10 year old boys dream come true.

I say upwards to a $100k

Look closer into the history of that car. That side battery, and inner fender access strongly suggests that car either left St.Louis with a.c. or a big block. Does it have a 9/16" rear sway bar? How heavy in diameter is that front sway bar?

@johnkelly69423 жыл бұрын
Depends on what it cost to buy the car. Hopefully the foam work dramatically reduced the price. Also hope the customer knew they were going to have to pay for a replacement chassis.

How many employees work at your shop? Was the foam some kind of sound deadening?
@HorsepowerWarehouse3 жыл бұрын
We have 3 full time technicians including myself. I believe the foam was an attempt to keep out water and prevent rust although the opposite occurred.

Yes, did that foam thing to my sister's audi 100 some 30 years ago, never seen a car rust so fast 😳.

Not sure if you would be interested or would know anyone but I have a New original GM rad support (still has GM sticker on it) for a mid year BUT only catch it has the cutout for the Fuel Injection. I never advertised it but I would think someone would want a new original rad support for a mid year Fuelie.

I would think that 100,000 dollars would not be out of line for this restoration. My gut tells me that since this car is not anything special it would not be cost effective to restore it. I I have seen 66's better than this one go at auction for 65k to 75k.

A restored high performance 327brings well over $100k. The problem is when you start driving it the value quickly drops.

It is increasingly difficult to find a Corvette restoration candidate of that vintage that has not been in an accident. They were sold and bought as performance cars, and not always driven by skilled drivers. Stuff happens, let’s be happy that the are quality shops who can deal with restoring damaged cars

@@Thomas63r2 Sounds like the relatives want to restore dad's old vette. I got spoiled 40 years ago looking at Vettes . You could find the no hit cars fairly easy back then. I wonder what the restoration bill will be, 100K?.For that much you could find a no hit car.
