I love that Holly and Sara Jean both grew up in Oregon. I did as well. In a Farely larger town 10 miles from Corvallis and OSU. I finally made it out and moved to Arizona 6 years ago! Fascinating because "the Girl Next Door" is a very American concept, it makes sense it wasn't called "the Girls Next Door" everywhere. I had to google what it meant when reading Holly's books because she mentioned the "Girl Next Door Look" being Hefner's preferred "look" for a playmate in her 1st book a fair few times. Later when I watched the show she said that in reference to playmates a bit as well, and I honestly didn't know what it meant to look like or be like "the Girl Next Door" ha.

But after I found out about all the bad shit, I'm so glad I never did.

The girl who lost the cover to Sara's iconic Oct 2005 cover with the painted on OSU jersey was Victoria Thornton from Arizona state. She lost the cover but was in the pictorial but then declined testing for actual playmate because she didn't want to do any full nudes. But she got the cover for the College Girls special editions that used recycled pictures from the same Girls of the PAC 10 pictorial. And she had the same painted on outfit that Sarah had with similar pose. Sara tested for playmate made it and then was picked over Alison Waite and Monica Leigh for PMOY of 2007.

There was a trend in the late 2000's of bringing over playmates in the European versions into American playboy as American Playmates (Giuliana, Dasha, etc)...I thought for sure Monica would have won PMOY; her trajectory as Cyber Girl/Month was impressive and then as Playmate. Hef made her CGOY 2007, however. Sara is a throwback to the 1970s playmate. Hef had a soft spot for her...
