I hope you guys are all doing okay I think you should invest in an air conditioner that will help you when you have fires around you to clean your air or an air purifier of some sort used them a lot over here in New Hampshire in Canada and when there's fires it helps to keep the air clean in the inside

On the bright side, all that ash is good for the trees and the fruit trees it’s nourishment. I know it’s sad but in the long run, it’s mother nature cleaning out all the crap in the forest the dead trees the stuff that is laying in the woods, some of the tree seeds need that fire to burst to life, believe it or not

I watched The Scotter’s video of their horrendous experience fighting to stop the fires crossing the road to their property. Fortunately their hard work paid off and they were safe. Hi guys... I live in South AFrica.. yeah.. fires ! Small village in nature reserve.. 5 years ago under evacuation orders but we were prepared in our neigbourhood.. We all had : Water tanks 5.000 ltr, water pumps and battery backups for those pumps.. And then.. we all got Karcher high pressure washers so there we were, 5 houses defending our properties with pressure washers.. the fire brigades could not believe how well we protected our area and not lost one house.. even saved our (rather big) gardens... so just a tip for your direct surrounds.. don't sit back and wait... attack and with those pressure washers you can keep the growth and the gardens in your immediate surrounds pretty wet believe you me.. Just a tip. Thinking of you all out there.. keep safe ...

We are neighbors of you in SA. Here, every farmer in close ranch also goes and helps out. Next time that fire might start on your property and then you need hands-on deck. The least some people can do is pick up cold drinks for the ones working and putting out fires. Collecting old blankets, towels, buckets of water, and dumping those towels and blankets in it and start helping. Everyone working together helps and makes a difference. Showels... and sand. There are always ways to help. I pray that it will rain over all those affected areas. And that God Almighty will help those organic farmers and those who lost bees and animals will be up and running fast.

Will be glad for a “normal” video Wednesday because it will mean the stress and danger have passed. It still amazes me that people continue to complain and feel their criticism is so important it needs to be posted. I love your channel please don’t change what you do because the way you edit is unique to your channel just like any art form. Hello Newby's... so sorry for Diogo's loss. Wild fires seem to be a worldwide problem. There are bee farmers in the US that have their bee hives placed (permanently) on flatbed trucks. They "rent" the bees out to fruit farmers to pollinate their orchards. Diogo could do this and move the hives to safety. In New York State, counties have funded the construction of medium sized ponds(about 1acre) for firefighters to use in case of remote fires. So glad you are safe. Tara, your head ache could be caused by the smoke and worry. Keep safe.❤❤❤

What a great comment. We are in central Portugal and we found bees living under the stairs. I don’t have any knowledge on how to take care of them. Wish I knew someone who would take them into proper hive 😍 Diogo is probably too far away from us. We are near Pedrogao Grande, Leiria.

I'm from Southern California and have dealt with fires. ALWAYS kerp a 'go bag' in case you have to evacuate quickly. Make certain you always have a full tank of petrol, a few gallons of water in your car, and enough food for your family and your dog and chickens for at least 3 days. Not only is thid important in case of fire, but also in case of earthquake. Sending blessings to you.❤

I live in Northeastern Ontario Canada where forest fires are a common occurrence each summer usually brought on by lightning strikes and I can assure you that forest fires can definitely jump lakes and rivers, so don’t think the river separating you will protect you from a forest fire. Be safe. Be prepared. ❤️

Yes. Reminds me of the Pestigo fire in Wisc.1871. The river saved some but many people perished. Days before the residents were stuffing cracks in their doors as well. Ash everywhere. The only place the fire didn't touch was a miraculous story, went completely around a patch of land. So glad you guys are safe!

We were watching the news here in Spain and our hearts go out to the Portuguese people. Unless you've had that experience (as we have) you can't really get an idea of how terrifying it is and how helpless you feel. It's without doubt the scariest thing I've ever lived through, and I'll never forget the sepia light, the crackling of burning leaves all around and the smell of smoke which lingered for weeks. People here always talk about the three 30s needed for a wildfire to spread: a temperature of at least 30°C, less than 30% humidity and 30km wind. The most incomprehensible thing is, that when numerous fires all start at the same time it's deliberate - I saw the arrests have been made in Portugal already. But it won't bring back the lives and livelihoods lost. Thank goodness you're all okay and thank you so much for sharing those stressful days and for helping raise money for the people around you who have lost so much. ❤❤❤❤

I have just watched The Scotters vlog, which was heartbreaking. It has undoubtedly been a really scary week for thousands of people in Portugal. Without watching these vlogs and seeing the reality of the affect of forest fires on ordinary people thousands of miles away, I would have caught a clip on the BBC News, thought how sad it was and then got on with my life. That shot of the blood red sun made me think of the times in the past two summers when we ( in northern New England) have seen a sun like that, along with a blood orange moon at night, because of the smoke from the wildfires in Canada, and smelled that smokey haze that came from so far away. Our poor planet. It's amazing how quickly a fire can spread, and how far away people can be affected by them. I can't imagine what it would be like actually seeing these fires coming at your house! And poor Diogo, what a tragedy for him personally, and for all the bees destroyed all over portugal. Our hearts are so heavy for all of the loss from these fires. When we visited Portugal years ago near Cabaceiras in the North, there were loads of fires as well. As you say normally they put them out very quickly and nobody is too bothered about it but this one seemed a lot worse! Good to see nothing major happened to you guys!

Unfortunately we lost 7 brave people that were fighting the fires! Every year is the same and we Portuguese are fed up with the government that keep doing nothing serious about it. 90% of those are man made due to economic reasons and also because people are sick and love see burning for whatever reason. Please keep your farm save and clean the surroundings vegetation just to avoid any higher risk.❤

Good to hear you are okay. That water pond becomes even more important to have in case of a fire emergency. Better get a hose and a pump. Make sure the roof of your new house is made of concrete ( with terracotta tile) on top and install fire sprinklers KZbin channel Mr. & Mrs. Adventure are doing that. They are in Portugal as well. They cleared a lot of land and the hills to have extra fire protection too . For your safety, you need to clear around your house more.

Yes, the 'Adventures' got rid of their Eucalyptus trees which are not native to Portugal & are an invasive species & go up up in seconds from all the natural oils in them ...the leaves smell so wonderful & Eucalyptus is wonderful as an aromatic & in the sauna ...but a nightmare in a fire. Topanga Canyon, Ca. where I used to live in my 20s & many years later with my daughter there is so vulnerable to fire ...but parts less so because of all the moisture that rolls in every evening like a blanket over the valleys from the Pacific ocean. Parts of California go up in smoke every year ...partly because of scarce water ...& partly because so much water is purposefully wasted & dumped into the Pacific unused, when it could 'green' many of the valleys & farmlands that so need it ...which ironically they divert the waste to the Pacific for environmental purposes , but that makes fire more likely. Also, the management of undergrowth & brush is not what it is in other European countries... But perhaps more manpower is needed in Portugal also to clear out the 'tinder box' that accumulates every year. Sometimes thoughtful logging can actually save the environment ...not talking about clear-cutting or the cutting down of old-growth forest ...but management ...YES!! BIG WIDE FIREBREAKS EVERY SO OFTEN ARE A NECCESSITY IN VERY DRY CLIMATES! P.S. i PERSONALLY KNOW PEOPLE WHO WERE SAVED BY BIG AREAS WITHOUT TREES AROUND THEIR HOUSES ...WHO JUMPED INTO THEIR SWIMMING POOLS & WERE SAVED BECAUSE THEY WAITED TOO LONG TO DRIVE OUT!! Gas masks aren't a bad idea either when you are waiting it out in your pool! ....no trees for 100 yards around your pool or more either! b@@iu.5146

Hi Tara and John, I was evacuated last summer with 10 minutes notice, when I opened my door the wall of flames was only feet away. The wind had unexpectedly changed and put my little town of Osoyoos at risk. I understand that feeling of vulnerability and bewilderment. Be prepared, have an evacuation plan! Here in San Diego, I have boxes, crates, a duffle bag ready to go! Fires we’ve had mostly have been intentionally set 🤬, get a pump for that natural pool in case you need the water, maybe more storage for water! I’m so sorry for the losses, Diogo’s bees, the fear, such a beautiful area! I had to find new home insurance I had since 1980 as mine was cancelled due to wildfire risks. Able to find new insurance but very stressful doing so. I pray for everyone, please be safe and thank you for sharing all this! You’ll never forget this experience! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

So glad to hear that you are safe. The decision to stay or leave is always so difficult. Many years ago I had to face that choice, we were under evacuation notice form a huge fire. fortunately, we had two vehicles so I packed up our kids and the dog and drove south away from the fires while the highway was open. My then husband was designated as essential for emergency situations so he had to stay behind.I remember the choking smoke, red sky and weird feeling. I hope the rains arrive soon and the fires will be out or at least under control.

Hi from Australia, I feel for everyone in the proximity of the Forrest fires. Australia has had some horrific bush fires, that have destroyed hundreds of properties and killed thousands of native wild life, koalas, kangaroos wiped out in the fire areas, all the cattle, horses sheep, it is devastating. Ugh. I live in southern California and know all too well what you experienced. The Woolsey Fire 2018 burned through our community clear through the Santa Monica Mountains to the beaches of Malibu. Evacuation timing should be taken very seriously (as you did) because winding mountain roads, closures, and evacuation traffic congestion are realities. It is so humbling to have firefighters come from everywhere to save homes and property. The devastation to wildlife and open land is heartbreaking and linger long after the burn smell is gone-not to mention neighbors' loss of homes. I'm so grateful your land was spared and wish you all the best as you and your community recover.

As an Australian, I can relate to not knowing to leave or stay, as the wind turns so fast, we didn’t get a choice and were ordered to evacuate by police. We were safe, and that all that matters in the end. So grateful for the emergency services. I’m so happy you are safe and so sorry for everyone around you that has lost anyone or anything 💞💞💞

It was like watching close friends and made me realise how completely invested in your lives I’ve become and I was so glad that you all came through this terrifying experience with everyone safe. I hope you are able to create a firebreak around your home so that in the future you can be less vulnerable. ❤❤ I recommend running and air purifier indoors at night and closing windows. During the day temperatures will rise lifting smoke and ash higher. Be prepared to water down your farm and also prepare to evacuate even if it's just to go somewhere where the air is cleaner to recover.

I am so sorry everyone. Yes, when it happens the energy is so charge, stress is high, not much sleep, ash every where, headaches happen lack of oxygen and smelling the fires. John, for having experienced it here in Chile, the river does not stop the fire….the ash is brought by the wind everywhere including the other side of the river. It is a very difficult time of year when there hasn’t been a drop of water for months and fire season starts. Even worse is when it was started by humans. Anyways I am happy to hear it rained heavily which will help stop the blaze from spreading however don’t think it is finish because fire can continue underneath the soil through roots and set a tree on fire that way. Please stay safe and have an evacuation plan in place. I am really happy to see that we were all together able to reach your goal and hoping for more as there are I am sure a lot of people in need right now. Happy to hear that you will be hosting 16 bee hives on your property over the winter which will give Diogo hope that in the Spring he will be able to put these hives where they are most needed to pollinate trees and flowers in your area. Unfortunately fire can jump a River quite quickly. It can even pass over a lake. It just depends on the wind blowing hot embers across the water. We have found this in British Columbia , Canada in the last couple of dry summers. At one point there were 400 fires burning in our beautiful province. The smoke was incredible

I am so very sorry to see this again! We were evacuated last year in West Kelowna for four days. Your video brought back those awful moments of helplessness and uncertainty that is becoming more prevalent throughout the world. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by these fires, loss of property and most importantly loss of life. We managed through the “apocalyptic-like days” wearing masks, using air purifiers and staying indoors to minimize the long-term health affects. We are now armed with sprinkler systems for our home should we need them again, bins packed and lists made if we need to evacuate again. Hope and pray, we never see that again! Stay safe and take care of your precious family. ❤❤❤❤

Here in the US, if the fires are big enough, strong enough...close enough...the embers can fly over a small river, road, and such to start fires farther away...never underestimate the power of the wind and the fires...I cannot imagine being a young family facing decisions you both were dealing with...having a good plans to put in place to try get thru...my heart goes out to all affected
