That's so heartbreaking. You get that a lot in my area. Some old farmer who has a classic F-100 who'd rather bury it for nothing than sell it for $2000.

TominBach DF has a son with a flat fender Jeep, Dulcich has kids and they went to the first Ziptie Drags with him. Even still, it's his/your stuff that you paid for. Nobody is entitled to it because they don't like what you're doing (or not doing) with it.

Dburger62 It's totally their right to do what they want but it still is a little sad. I guess I'm being a bit of a hypocrite here because I have a gokart I promised I'd build and a Cordoba someone owes me that I'd said I'd try to bring back to life, and theres a subaru GL wagon my father has that I think I've talked him into gutting and letting me weld the diff on and hooning the shit out of, If I ever get around to it and all that nonsense is just sitting...

Guys like him are the reason it’s impossible to find classic cars at good prices. People sit on them. Never doing anything with them. Then economics of supply and demand take over.

RUST. Cars in UK stored outside, with damaged paint and stuff would rust away beyond hope in just a few years. Even in Poland, where we have better weather some 80's cars that some guy nearby collected and neglected somewhere in the 90's are already collapsing under their own weight...

I had one in high school! Came out of the bottom of a barn... whole frame was basically Swiss cheese. I didn’t know any better when I was in high school and I was in love with the car. By the time I got done with disassembly, I realized it wasn’t a good idea to put any money into it so I sold it for basically the value of the hideaways and the ralley tails... good memories.

I'm of the mentality that, if you let a car like that sit rather than selling it, you are doing a huge disservice to the car world. But maybe that's because I'm from Iowa, and letting a car just sit here is downright abusive.
@griffinsavoy
@griffinsavoy 6 жыл бұрын
OldRed91 I just can't understand the "fix it or sell it" mentality. No keyboard warrior (not directed at you, generally speaking) on the internet has any right to tell someone what to do with their stuff. If you want to let YOUR stuff, sit, that is your right. Nobody is entitled to it because they don't like what you're doing (or not doing) with it.
@oldred9122
@oldred9122 6 жыл бұрын
Dburger62 I agree with your point, but in Iowa, letting a car sit often means letting it rot into the ground. There is a point where a valuable piece of history is being deliberately destroyed. I agree there is nothing I can do since it is someone else's property, but it's still sad to witness.
@electrix6751
@electrix6751 6 жыл бұрын
The only good thing about where it sits is that the Charger is in dry, hot weather. It's hell on the interior and plastic parts but easy on the sheet metal.

The problem is people see a car like that sitting and expect you to give it to them. I have a few projects in my yard I'd part with but no one wants to pay fair value for them. They see them sitting and tell me I'm a dick because I won't sell it to them for $500

I'm probably gonna catch hell for this, but here goes: It always kills me when people would rather see cars sit and rot in their yards than sell them to someone who would get them on the road again. Yes, it's their property and they can do what they want. But how can someone call themselves a car lover when they let these great rides just sit neglected? Cars should be driven, not be collecting dust.

Petty raced the third generation Charger until 1977, since NASCAR allowed you to run an older body style 3 years after its discontinuation. In 1978 he had to switch to the Magnum, and that that thing was such a brick and uncompetitive he ended up switching to GM products (Chevy and Olds) before years end.

Richard Petty raced a 1972 Charger starting mid year of 1972 season. Then a 1973 Charger through the end of the 1977 season. Changed to a Dodge Magnum for 1978, which he was unhappy with, causing him to switch to GM during the 1978 season. Thus ending his racing of Mopars. That is what i've found from my research.

Ski Slope Charger 66 and 67. That is what we called them when I worked at Plymouth/Dodge in the 80's. From what I understand the were supposed to be one of the 1st production cars with a turbine engine. That is why the have all the round finned emblems and gauge clusters to mimic the Turbine engine that it was going to have. That never happened and it got and normal engine in it.

All 3 of those are worth a hefty penny back East, especially rust free. That charger is a $5k-$10k car all day long, depending on the options and drivetrain. To give you an idea: 20 years ago I found a 73 Charger SE that needed 1/4s, floors and had a 318 that didn’t run. It was $800. Seen a 72 charger on Craigslist a few years ago. It was in pieces, a 360 auto car. $9k. Nowadays just about everything that is even a little performance oriented (real or perceived) is worth a fortune. You can’t even touch a 3rd gen camaro for less then $5k around here. I bought my 93 Z28 for $1500 13 years ago. I could turn around and sell it today for $5k. My 73 AMX cost me $550 20+ years ago. I could sell it for $8k today, rusty and not running, but complete.

I agree. I have never cared for the opera windows on the 71-74 Chargers. I had a 71 Charger SE with opera windows. They make a blind spot for when you are backing up and I don't like the "shark gill" looks of them. I have had a 73 and 74 hardtops without the windows and the visibility is like night and day. 73-74 are my favorites because of the tail lights and what we called the Nike Swoosh side windows. Keep up the good work!

The 72 Charger SE also had a different 1/4 window than that version.. They had 2 roof line/quarter window options for 72 ! Side marker lights dont turn me off from a 71 to a 72...most people dont notice ! Add a stroker 400 big block,make it look stock with Road Wheels (Magnum 500's) Restore it to a Charger Rallye (former RT).

Hey man, you described 71 plymouth B body 3 section side markers. Dodge B bodies were different. Don't matter, I still dig the rust free donors ya'all get out there.

Good thing you had all that dirt on the car to compare the different body styles.

You would think that the 1968/69 Chargers were the best selling Chargers Dodge built back in the day based on the popularity of them since 1979. But the 1973 was the highest selling model with over 119,000 cars produced. '68 saw 96,100 and '69 saw 89,199. I personally own a '68 and have owned 1 other '68 and 2 '69's but I am told that the suspension refinements on the 3rd Gen Chargers as well as the other B-bodies make them very good drivers. And they are still affordable compared with the 2nd Gen cars!
