We took our 2022 Civic Si to the race track to battle against the latest 2023 Civic Type R (FL5). Before ‪@DaiYoshihara‬ could even put a lap down, our 2022 Civic Si 1.5L engine blew up!We have been pushing this platform just as we did with the 10th Gen Civic Si but it seems the new 11th gen can't handle the similar abuse. We are back at the Ososik e-Shop to tear down the engine and use our ‪@HondataInc‬ FlashPro to analyze the datalog that captured the catastrophe.
What should we do next?

Agreed to a certain extent. You buy an 11th gen Civic you go Type R or you move on to another brand. At least the new Type R is made in Japan where the Japanese pay attention to detail. The L15CA in the new Si is not made in Ohio like the L15B7/ L15BA was for the 10th gen.

I have a 23 si, I’m running Hondata. I appreciate this video, there’s so many mixed messages online but 32 psi is nuts. I’m utilizing boost by gear, 22 psi 3/4 then back down to 20 for 5/6. This is my DD, but the stock tune from factory is really weak.

Thank y’all for sending it. I bought my 11th gen Si not long. It’s hard to see it be weak but it’s good to know it will if you push it. We just need to figure out how far you’d need to build it to make it powerful as well as reliable. You can make power but is it all day long…? We need to get there. Transmission work not long after 300? Clutch sure. Some synchros maybe? I’d like to make 300hp. I don’t think this block can do 400hp but that’s just me. By the time you get there, it’s nearly all different.

Unfortunately a old lady hit me before I could do much else/ test that motor. When I get the replacement Si. It gets a upgraded clutch, intercooler, full exhaust, head studs, and a tune. In my research, that’s all these motors really need to make a baby type r. About 300 horse. Swap for e85, probably 320-350. Bam, baby type r. The crashed one had just an intake and exhaust. Nothing special, just loud pipes with plenty of stuuus from that turbo. I did feel the clutch slip a few times but I was purposely being an ass with it in first. It won’t do knarly burnouts but I miss her for sure. I hope it’s fun for you. I do recommend a obd2 digital gauge with coolant temps and iat’s. Once any of those values go out wack, the motors goes wack too. I don’t recommend a tune on stock clutch, without upgraded headstuds, and without some extra money. It is a gamble pushing the lil baby fist past 300hp in my opinion. I don’t remember the numbers they were pushing but I remember it was tuned.

This is true. A stress fracture could've occurred during any previous testing or maybe something as simple as a bad heat cycle due to weather or driving conditions. There also could've been a pre existing micro fracture or weak spot present in the materials from the factory. It's impossible to really know, for sure. Isolated incidents are not necessarily an indication of a wide spread problem.

For the same money put into the SI, this s2k would've been making near 600rwhp with stock internals and would be fine at that power. Get you a 8th or 9th gen with a k series in it. Here are my observations, the car wasnt broken in, it went through a lot of dyno pulls, a lot of racing, it was sprayed with nitrous without every adjusting timing for it, then they proceed to add e85 and a bigger turbo on what seems to be an outdated L15B7 tune which is a non-vtec motor. I understand this was an experiment but people are acting like this car will blow as soon as you tune it. If you wait until there are adequate tunes available, break in the car, and dont blow nitrous in the intake for the fuck of it you should be fine. I am hoping these guys go back and build this motor and find what “went wrong”.
@thefoatmedia
@thefoatmedia Жыл бұрын
We know what went wrong, it's too much abuse for a little stock engine. Tune was not outdated, every time the car was on the dyno, you can see the tuner inside the vehicle and adjustments were made accordingly. It's not new that these motors are not meant to be pushed and torque is what blows them. Could you make them last? Yes, but they will not be fast. People just need to understand what they purchase and keep realistic expectations. The K20's are way stronger from the factory. Anything can be built to be fast but that comes at a cost, our 10th Gen is still the highest HP and fastest 1.5L and it was not an easy journey lol. What we have not shown is putting a stock motor back in this 11th Gen Si and tuning it to be more "reliable" but again it's not as fast (of course). Thanks for your feedback and watching. We will show those updates eventually.

Just the drop in PRL air filter, Custom Tuned using Honda “Race” Flash pro. D2 Coilovers and the 27won big brake kit. The brake kit is sitting in my garage waiting for the spring for installation as it’s winter in Canada. I ease into it at lower rpm’s and then when I feel it I let it loose….very hard to catch. Sometimes when I push it I’ll feel the engine loading up and I’ll back off. I think I feel the clutch slip a tiny bit on some pulls but nothing major yet probably because I lean into it rather than drop it. @@Blackdawn80 yeah but Honda doesn’t necessarily benefit from extreme dealer markup, the dealers have already bought the car from Honda. It’s really only the middlemen (dealers) that benefit from that. In fact, people aren’t buying certain cool new cars that come out because they can’t get them at sticker and could buy something nicer for the same amount, so it really just adds to manufacturers not being as interested in building cool shit anymore. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if oil dilution was to blame for the fail. Apparently, the issue still exists with the L15 platform with another class action lawsuit in the process. Going E85 might have been too corrosive for engine internals. I have a 22' Si that blew up as well with just a clutch, intake, DP, and a tune from Derek Robinson. I doubt I made as much power as this guy did and my car just blew up cruising down the highway. Perhaps, these mods sped up the occurrence of this failure; however, it probably would have happened anyways. People are having this happen to their new cars with no mods, so Honda should be held accountable for selling the new Si under the assumption that it's a reliable performance vehicle and hiding design flaws they were aware about.
