Need to establish more Marine Conservation Zones. Every Wind Farm could be one, with artificial reefs added in lines that still allow maintenance vessels to operate. Plant kelp fields and sea grasses nearer to shore. Just thinking out loud, I'm no expert.

Yea that was a surprise for me as well! I’m glad they included the lady’s reaction at the end though when she basically said, “who cares if the other solution is less harmful? They’re still drilling for oil and we need to stop that!”

This is a huge part of why I’m not 100% sold on deep sea mining for battery minerals. We’ve already destroyed so much habitat for land based animals and I worry that we’ll end up doing the same for marine animals. This is why I generally advocate for people in developed countries to reduce their energy usage…hopefully to the point that we don’t need to start mining the sea floor. That being said, thanks for bringing up cool solutions like the bubble curtains which we can use when we DO need to do stuff in the ocean. This was super cool!
@matildo4ka72 жыл бұрын
I would say consumption is the biggest problem of the developed countries and not only of the energy, but of regular junk stuff. Regulation of the ocean based noise is not a rocket science, it's very easy to find the polluters. But no one lives in the ocean except marine life, so it affects a lesser number of people, so regulators do not care about marine life as much. Someone said 'seagulls don't vote' reg. wind mills impact on marine birds, the same thing applies here 'dolphins don't vote', so not many governments care. I hope US will take it in the right direction as we have the 2 biggest oceans. Europe doesn't care much about oceans as they are mostly land based. We had a presentation with the EU Parliament and their rep is "still emailing me back reg. my question- what EU does for oceans". I'd assume not much as she is not aware. Island countries should lead us in the ocean protection field, but they rely on Western science. It is a disgrace in my opinion, that we do not have more ocean research centers in those countries instead of Europe or the US.
@SaveMoneySavethePlanet2 жыл бұрын
@@matildo4ka7 I agree that over consumption is a huge problem. That’s why I tend to try to make my videos two-pronged: they give advice on what you can change immediately, and they also give advice on what governmental policies you need to support. I definitely would also like to see governments regulate ocean noise pollution more. This slips my mind sometimes because there’s literally so much that we have to fix…so this video was a great little reminder for me!

More than 2.4 million trees of sub-tropical forests are to be cut down to make Nijgadh International Airport here in Nepal. The region is an important habitat for several endangered species including asiatic elephant. This project will have more impacts than benefits for a long run. Hope you make a video on that too. 🇳🇵

The memorable moments of the Mediterranean sea experience for me was near the south east coast of 🇹🇷 Turkish around KOS in July 2019. The skipper threw a small piece of bread into the sea, a fish surface to eat it! We can sea the depth of the shore in turquoise water! I still can't believe that I swim in the Mediterranean sea, climbed up to our Turkish Gulet (wooden yacht) rinsed off, and enjoyed a chilling day

Installing more wind and solar farms here in Kansas, the center of the continuous United States, instead of on the ocean would probably help reduce oceanic noise pollution. Granted it would be a good thing to also have wind and solar farms distributed throughout the United States, but having the majority of that electricity generated in the geographic center of the United States would help with distribution. One argument that I could see presented with this is less room for agriculture, but it has been proven that solar farms used in conjunction with agriculture actually helps the agricultural farms instead of hindering them. With that in mind agricultural farms could also switch to electric farm equipment, taking greater advantage of the electricity that they themselves generate. So what exactly is the excuse for this not being implemented? Quite simply finances, ignorance, and the fear of trying something new.

Yes driving piles for oil and gas rigs is also a problem as it is with wind turbines too. I like seeing the solutions paired with the issues here. Well done DW! I am surprised that you did not address the elephant at sea though which is sonar. Perhaps there is not such an easy replacement for sonar as there are for the other sites but sonar is also high up on that list of noise pollution in the oceans

How feasible would it be to replace or retrofit the majority of vessels with these greener technologies?

Fine episode, and I also don't like noise, from, f.e., very noisy motor vehicles driven on our roads, streets, and there are other examples, plenty, but it evidently will not be as harmful to me as abnormal noise in our waters will be or is for aquatic life. Noise is very annoying, imo, but it evidently is even worse for aquatic systems.

The technology in building an off shore wind turbine comes from the oil and gas industry. When you look at the North sea (that is north east from the UK) that use to be a massive oil and gas field and the workers for oil and gas lived in the north east of the UK. So when the UK started doing off source wind turbines, they employed the same people using the same techniques and the same technology, to put wind turbines instead of oil rigs. So the fact that this programme is only complaining about wind turbines and not oil rigs is a bit strange, and suggests there is a political motive behind this programme. Someone doesn't want wind turbines where as that person is completely fine with their oil and gas infrastructure.
@NewAge3742 жыл бұрын
I am often critical of these videos too but what I think helps is believing that we want to make a transition to renewable energies making as few mistakes as possible. So it's really an invitation to investigate how we want wind farms to be installed at sea. In this video I was glad that sytemic solutions were also teased, like sailing vessels and the complete eradication of using fossil fuels. This channel does more than governments and companies acknowledging this.

There is almost no documentary that has no background music, it is just not something that is made. Most videos or form of entertainment have soundtracks of music or sound effects layered below speech and scenes, so I don't know what you expect, you come across as whiny and as if it is so immensely distracting when their mixing levels are perfect and allow for the people speaking to be heard loud and clear.
