Yes I agree. If it wasn't for this Etsy shipping mess, I wouldn't know about Rafi & Klee. I sell vintage and am not an artist but Rafi & Klee's videos can help everyone , no matter what you sell. And I just love you 2. So insightful and very funny.

Did anyone ever bring up the fact that when Etsy increases the cost of our product to cover the shipping that the transaction fee that they take from us increases.

Thanks for sharing your plans! Etsy gets a lot of money from me about £7000 a year! 😭 I'm lucky that my brother is a web designer, though pushing people to my website is really slow! It's been running for over a year and I'm not even at 10% of etsy sales yet.

Any business that depends on a third-party platform to be in business, and that could be Etsy, Facebook, Instagram, Shopify Etc., you are always one policy violation away from going out of business. You should ALWAYS be in control of your own website, have your own mailing list, have your own client list etc. Use the other platforms to support the website. One policy violation and your store could vanish without access to your customers.

I tried Shopify and found the shop set up to be difficult. I am not a super duper computer whiz, but I am not stupid either. But that's me. I went to Square, because I use Square when I do events, and will be buying my own domain there. Right now I have the free version, which is fine and is still Google searchable. Between you two and a couple of other artists' videos on this subject, I have a plan now and will be withdrawing from Etsy. One of the strategies I saw was to offer incentives and items on your new website that can not be purchased on Etsy, and letting your Etsy customers know. Thank you for your levelheadedness and presenting options and suggestions, as well as sharing your own strategy for dealing with Etsy. For those of us new to having an online business your videos have been extremely helpful.

I could not agree more with you both! Your insight and humor is a breath of fresh air, thank you for sharing these videos. It's really helpful to me to see how other artists are reacting to Etsy's evolution. I have been using Big Cartel for 5 years and it's worked well for me. I highly recommend BC for artists who have less than 300 listings. Their customer service is very good, the platform itself is not as sophisticated as Etsy but it has everything I need to sell my work. It's also very affordable with zero transaction fees and scaled subscriptions that go up to $30 per month.

I'm so glad that this Etsy situation led me to your channel. It's been discouraging to see artists in general being told that they HAVE to make and sell their art on other peoples' terms because social media has provided a variety of new ways to make a living off art. But, the idea that you as an artist are required to give up x, y or z in order to valid is such a false and predatory concept. I love seeing you two approach this problem as the artists you are. This is the type of content I want to see online and in the world.

Thank u for these videos. As a Quilt maker my items are expensive. IE: not China junk! I have little to no profit because I already compete with the Wally world attitude of.....your crazy I could get that "blanket" at Walmart for 30 bucks.....lol umm....yeah. Etsy for me is not an option now.... I will run my business the way I want. I wont be over charging a customer and shrugging my shoulders saying who is gonna know....I will know!!! Plus remember It takes just 1 person to screw up your business while etsy tells you.....its not their problem. Again Thank you guys for the vids!!!!

Only five min. in. Had to book mark this for today. I'm happy you guys chose not to go with shopify. I have been snooping around the net too. I will return. Sounds like you guys have gone with Woooo comerse. Girl.. You've got some quick wit! Have to come back to this... Rafi, can totally relate. Internet stuff can be draining. I got burned with my brand site taken over early days by a third party app who claimed they owned it. This happened years ago. The trick is to have a different hosting, and registrar. Own your domain and choose a separate hosting company. I'll come back to finish out watching this. You guys are doing live stream, but I've got a lot to do.. You're so cute chickadee. Love the humor here!

Be careful with the technical side of Woocommerce. Big Wordpress updates can cause big problems with all the plugins you might use. I set up a German shop with Woocommerce in the past and it was a pain in the butt. Also, the more products were added to the shop, the slower and buggier it got. Keep that in mind and good luck to you guys! (English Woocommerce Version isn’t up to online Shop law standards in some European countries, so keep that in mind with your European customers)

The two of you ROCK! I'm in the midst of opening an online shop and first thought it would be on Etsy. Been doing research for a few weeks and have come across your videos and many other reviews of Etsy. My plan now is to take the plunge and go with Wordpress and the other pieces that are recommended by wpbeginners to just build my own website. I also love the WOO factor Klee! At almost 60, I'm excited to become part of the ecommerce community. Thanks so much for your sharing! Funny, I just realized Sara Ratliff said it was her first KZbin comment, this is my first too. You two definitely inspire. Keep up the good work. Hugs. . .

🤣 Ya girl is funny. You two are great together. Bounce off each-other so well!!! Pull out the heart strings guys. RIGHT NOW! 😁 After my bad experience (early days) of opening my shop on etsy. My sales sky rocketed after one year. I was blown away! However, than people started swiping my designs. My rant & rave caused them to come out with a digital upload protection feature. I was happy about it. Unfortunately, it didn't deter the copycats from swiping my designs, or adding subtle differences, and calling it their own! Wha-wha -WHAT?? kay... ? People were taking my designs, and sharing them on YT. and publishing them in Magazines! Unbelievable! This was very discouraging to me. It halted my desire. I learned REAL early!! Same shit happened with my website. People have to survive though right? Who cares about me. The creator. As for Corporate world.. AGREED. It's becoming commonplace with almost all dealings over the internet. I could expand on what I know is happening. I think I will save it for a PRINT VERSION PAPER BACK ONLY BOOK! Ya feel me? My dealings with internet is crushing the creative spirit. I am closing my Redbubble site as well. For the SAME reasons.. DAM it!! Wordpress is pretty good. I am NOT sure if they use third party registrar or not. I think they do.. I've been using the free version wordpress. Have also worked on websites . Choosing the best hosting and domain registrars can be tricky if you've not ever done it before. Don't believe articles written on 10 best hosing sites, etc.. These guys are paid to promote the hosting company they write about. I'm the type who wants full control over my online experience. Needless to say, it's taken me quite sometime to understand the ropes. I find that manipulative control feature A LOT. After a couple years of doing nothing. I finally decided to get back to working it again and now this happens. FRAK, ya know? Hey, don't fret the haters. They're probably bots or people sent out by etsy to sway opinions or keep people from moving their stores off the platform. Esty's death, has helped me in a BIG way. Been contemplating closing shop or moving on for a while. Couldn't do it due to Marketing, and long standing SEO. (I am with you on that.) Good luck you guys. I'll be around. I'mma sub SCRIBER YO! 😘 HanieB.

We have turned on the free shipping, mostly because we sell custom labels and most of our orders are under $35 anyway, so it won't impact us that much really. We were already offering free shipping over $50, so we didn't need to add the postage into our products. That said, we are working on building a Shopify store at the moment, because of the fees. After watching your video, I took a look and we have given Etsy over $700 in fees in the last 6 months, which we could halve with Shopify. So thanks for bringing up that point, I hadn't even thought of that.

Thank you so much guys for all the information shared. I was planning in re-opening my etsy shop soon as I am a jeweller/illustrator artist. Watching all your videos on Etsy totally woke me up. I had no idea they had created those new policies. There are actually a lot of videos from many different artists that share the same opinions as you guys and now me. I will not be returning to them after such fiasco. I don't know what I will have to do to sell my arts because my Instagram doesn't have a lot of followers at all, and I'm just not a well known artist nor am I popular. I was hoping I could count on etsy as I did 5 years ago, and it turns out it's a disaster. I will not support them on their nonsense. It is so unfair ! I will have to figure out a plan for myself as I don't have a client base or enough followers anywhere to do this. But I WILL DO IT ! ... I dont know how, but when there is a will there is a possibility. I really appreciate you guys talking about this and sharing your knowledge with us all. Blessings

Once, twice, and thrice again; I'm grateful for your Etsy rants, and sharing your plans for your new site. "Woo" commerce! I loved it, Klee! (I commented early on that since I hadn't opened my Etsy shop yet, I wasn't going forward. It was named back when, but has no products. Today you mentioned reasons why it could help traffic to keep one's shop open; while creating a site. What would you suggest for me whose "shop" isn't stocked?) You both are so amazing and I am very thankful for both of you! Once again, you have created a fantastic video about this debacle. I’ve been going back in forth between Shopify and WP/Woocommerce and your decision is helping me decide which way to go. A piece of advice I got was to continue on Etsy through the holidays in the hopes that my shop will still get sales even without offering this so-called free shipping nonsense, and with every sale, include info about my new site location (wherever that will be) and let everyone know on all my social media channels. I refuse to pay a company to be my (**expletive deleted**) boss. Like you guys, I hope to be directing my traffic to my shop’s future home. I very much appreciate you both and all the tips you have provided. You are a great help to us (current and soon-to-be former) Etsy sellers and I personally, cannot thank you enough. 🤗 ❤️ ✌🏾

Hi I have watched you last few videos on Etsy. My shop is less than a year old and I felt I had no choice but to give in to the free shipping nonsense. I struggle for sales as is. But with your advice I have started looking at other sites. I found rebels market. Many of my items lean towards there specific customer base. Thanks so much for your thoughts and advice on this issue. I feel Etsy has massively under estimated how many of their sellers are pissed off about these changes. 😡 I wish you the best of luck on your new path.

I’m hearing people saying they can use Folksy which is similar to ETSY but I’m thinking it’s only for UK people. I’m gonna see how a year on Etsy goes for me as I’m in my first week with them.........Was slightly bruising 🤕 I didn’t misunderstand your videos by the way 😊 Good luck with your woohoo Wordpress website 👍 it will be fun to see your progress I like your advice and Klee you are so funny 😂😂😂 *out in the rain with sad violin music* Great video Rafi and Klee We are all our own people 👊

OK you given me some fantastic food for thought, I was going to close my shops but I do need to rethink it all. I will probably go with Squarespace and Redbubble and connect my Etsy to my site. Shopify has never really interested me for one it's connected to Facebook and also I believe there is the option of affiliate selling with Amazon so yeah no thanks. I am new to the art scene and don't yet have a my art on sale but in the near future when I do I want it to be reputable high integrity is everything in business. I am so glad to hear you've already taken steps to move on many best wishes for a fantastic future online.

It's a good move. Don't burn the bridge yet (at least for traffic, network and all those years of sales/reviews which would increase trust of new prospects). Congratulations for the 'independence'.

💜💜💜 thank YOU for being honest about your process ... I had never seen your YT channel until your 2nd video commentary (?was it-eh no matter ) and I was so impressed of how Klee explained the various concerns, I then checked out your other videos and saw I really wanted to subscribe and follow you - because integrity + authenticity shines thru to me Oh and btw, whoosh yours was the first of a LOT of Etsy dissatisfied creatives reeling over Etsy's latest "CEO-led kaching" change .. wow, Etsy has certainly poked and excreted on the very core base that helped build etsy's whole appeal and core community... It doesn't appeal to me as a potential buyer...if I do, I may prefer those who actually charge shipping as a way to protest the current trend of luring creatives to practice potential illegal business practices .....thank you for helping me to define my own shopping practices to be even more authentic & integrious... Best of creative awesome luck to you both Your horizons look bright- woohoo!
