I had the opportunity to play test the Pre-Alpha version of Anvil Empires, the new 24/7 persistent war game set in the medieval era from Siege Camp, the developers of Foxhole. From fishing, hunting and farming, to building our own settlement and even combat, this Pre-Alpha was surprisingly fleshed out, and I can't wait to see where it goes!

Since I've gotten a lot comments on the swimming thing... I actually received a copyright claim on a 10-second clip of the Monty Python and the Holy Grail's "Burn the Witch" scene, so I had to cut it out but now it sounds less like a joke lol. I like to think of it as being a "Live Action RTS" of sorts..instead of you controlling units and buildings etc. The players are the individual units, the players create the buildings, research the tech, and gather the resources.

3:36 people have known how to swim since pretty much pre civilization. Many references even pre Roman times. I would consider this more of a non-implementation. I would think at some point, the devs may consider a way for certain characters to learn to swim or even have the stamina bar play a role.

Not gonna lie. Been playing Foxhole for a few years and the entire time I have been thinking that I wish I could just be a humble Blacksmith forging armor for the boys fighting up on the castle walls. My favorite fights are bridge fights, yeah I said it, and I wanted more of that but with melee weapons. The push, the pull, the laughs. Thanks for letting me know this is incoming.

The food system reminds me a lot of Eco, which imo is the gold standard for encouraging players to eat a wide variety of food. Here's how it works: - Each food has different types of nutrients, of which you want to balance as evenly as possible to maximize the food buff. This requires eating at least 3 or 4 different types of food. - Each player's character has randomized likes and dislikes. Eating more liked food will increase the food buff. - The player's character will occasionally get a craving for a specific food. Eating that food will grant an extra buff.

One thing that’s alway bothered me about survival and even RTS games where you gather stone is that it’s always gathered at a rock node. Stone should be gathered at a place similar to what you see at 7:00 on the side of the cliff. It would also add to the gameplay as it’s an area you’d have to defend as it would obviously be important for building in that area. It would be much better have that than having one random circular stone pile in the middle of nowhere.

2:30 Not entirely sure what Holy Roman Empire shields, weapons, and architecture looked like, but the Remnant faction seems more like a fictional take on the time period before and after the fall of the Western Roman Empire, when the battle of Adrianople was lost, leading to the Visigoths running amok through what used to be Western Roman Empire and then sacking Rome. More specifically, maybe their backstory is referencing Emperor Justinian's reign beginning in 527 CE? He was one of the last Emperors to try military reconquest of what used to be Roman Empire territory.

Honestly imagine eventually getting crossbows? I think a good way of doing it is when you have one of those Large Forges? With their difference with bows being Crossbow (More Damage less speed) but with having a greater rate of fire but less damage than that of a crossbow?

Each settlement has its members and they have roles, i dont remember exact names but there was 5 of them and only the 3 lowest ones can be obtained by building, gathering and basically helping the settlement to develop, first was the Founder, then "Lord" which can be obtained only by getting votes from "Nobles", Nobles is the maximum rank you can get by solo and helping settlement to grow, "Citizen" and finaly "Peasant" which was the lowest one and i repeat these were not the exact names but were similar.

The risk with these games is the seemingly inherent need for grind. Building your town together would be pretty magical the first few times, but I hope they find a way to keep it interesting and rewarding for a bit longer than that. I will definitely keep an eye on where this game is going

Since witches are burned at the stake, they must be made of wood, since it burns as well. Wood floats on water, as do ducks. Therefore, if the woman weighs the same as a duck, she must be able to float on water, which means she is made of wood, and consequently must be a witch.

I'm sure that'll probably come naturally tbh. One kingdom has more of something another wants, if they don't want to fight for it, they'll run trade routes to exchange goods. And there'll obviously be transportation of goods between settlements as well, there's always the backline cities producing goods that needs to be brought to the frontlines, just like in Foxhole.

This game gives me vibes of the haven and hearth mechanics on survival, but the game is more focused on faction and cooperative empires rather than free for all survival with clans (which leads to unhealthy amount of ganking and murders).
