I sewed my sons school shirts but the younger son did not want 'homade' shirts to school. so I cut labels out of old shirts to sew on the back of the neck. those he loved!

Brooke, I can truly relate about the hoarding and getting rid of things. When my Daddy died, he left such a huge, no Monstrous collection of his things and then when my Mom died, we had to go through it again because of her not really getting rid of all his things plus a woman who sold Avon for 15 years and had several dresser drawers full of boxed jewelry. My son helped there at the end of going through those things and he turned to me and said, " Mom, please don't do this to me! It's just me and I don't need anything from you except maybe something from both grandparents and something special from you. So please get rid of what you don't need." I now go through my things ever 4-6 months. And here is South Georgia, I really don't have to keep it all just for memories.... Thank you for sharing and reminding me my 6 months is here to get through my junk.

That means Ms Jan is a good groomer that loves what she does! She put him back to breed standard block face cut, not like ( PetSmart or petco flower face). Ms Jan did an awesome groom on Arlo and I’m glad you found someone that Arlo feels safe with. You always trust your dog if they are nervous when being dropped off or picked up it could indicate that they weren’t treated right. I tell all my customers to trust there dogs whether it be the groomer or the vet the animal will let you know if they are being mistreated. My client tell me their dogs start crying as soon as they realize they are coming to my house for a grooming. I don’t put them in kennels either they get treats and play time with my dog while in my care. I treat them as if they are my animals.

That type of elimination is called Swedish Death Cleaning, they go through everything and give it away or sell it to keep their family from the task at their death. It is something I am doing this year! 68 years of accumulating added to the massive amount of things I brought here while clearing out my parents' home! Add to that we are remodeling our kitchen and pulling out everything from every cabinet and seeing all the "stuff" I haven't used because I couldn't find it so when it goes back together there will be a ton of "stuff" leaving! So if it is useful and there is room for it I will keep it and if not, someone else will love it! I still wear my jeans but they are the new version and contain a bit of spandex, not to make them like yoga pants but it makes them have stretch and that makes them crazy comfortable.

You guys just tickle me. Your stories are so much fun. Even though you’re younger than me, I’m 71 (which I can’t believe). I can relate to everything you shared about growing up. My Mom made all our clothes when we were growing up and she let me play with the scraps because I was interested in learning how to sew. My little sister was never interested because she was a tomboy and spent most of her time outside. So what I made were little purses because I had stuff I needed to carry around! Well all my life I’ve had a passion for sewing and thought I would be a clothes designer (I became a hairdresser instead, and I was a really well dressed hairdresser). Now that I’m retired, I started a business a few years ago making tote bags and wallets and purses and I sell them as a street vendor when the weather is nice. So I’m at my sewing machine, listening to today’s podcast, and just throughly enjoying it. Isn’t it wonderful that we all don’t want to do the same thing! Anyone who finds their passion at a young age is so blessed. We all may go through five different things we may want to do but when you find that One Thing that Lights You Up, you want to get out of bed in the morning and do it! May Everyone find their passion for life! Thanks so much for today’s podcast 🥰✨🌈🥳🙋🏼‍♀️

Oh you read my mind! I have been going through STUFF that has accumulated through my 63 years. From my marriages - four children - my Mom and Dad - my in-laws - YEARS of not knowing what to do with it. Bins stacked (neatly luckily!) in closets and garages. I am so looking forward to cleaning it all out! Many antiques that I need to research and sell but I'm taking baby steps to get it all done!!! Can't wait for that freedom feeling!!! And also.... being an artist, I have so many markers, paint bushes, colored pencils, boxes of clay - sketch books - paint pens.... time to go through and give some away to artists that may not have any! We artists have a problem with parting with those things that 'we may use'....

And I remember ironing money but only when it came out of the washer, being left in someones pocket, so I ironed it to dry it. Also sewing. I watched my Grandma sew all the time and taught myself how to do it and love it to this day. I sure understand the boxes, I have a bedroom full of boxes, crafting supplies. I know I will never be able to do them now with my health so I am going to take Brooke's advice and give all those boxes away to someone who can use them. I liked your conversation about how you have gotten use to having less items in your daily life and how you might be able to get rid of stuff when your house is done and you start unpacking the pods. I'm a retired 72 year old elementary teacher. I am still sorting through teaching materials and my grandkids aren't around often and my 2 grown kids are not 'collectors'. I had collected dozens of Beanie Babies and give them away to 2 grandkids when they come by but it has hardly made a dent in them. I also 'inherited' many items from my parents' home when they passed. It is so hard to get rid of sentimental items. Good luck when your time comes to 'purge' your belongs down a bit.

I love listening to your stories. When you get that sewing machine out, you want to keep a few things in mind for a straight seam. First, the more you depress the foot pedal the faster the machine will sew. Don’t press the pedal all the way. Sew lines on a piece of paper while you are getting the hang of the pedal. Next, there are usually lines on the throat plate where the needle is. Those lines will be like 1/4” intervals. You can have place a piece of painters tape down to mark the line you want to use and it will help you to stay straight. Good luck and I hope you will give us an update if/when you experiment some more.

Hi CogHill friends, I was almost rolling on the floor with laughter at your telling of the story. You are both so descriptive that we can see what you are talking about. I can totally see Moody skipping back to his pasture. Brooke when you were talking about ironing your money as a child I knew what you were talking about but the more you laughed the more it sounded like you earned your money. Fantastic vlog again guys thank you for my Sunday chuckle.

This was such an enjoyable podcast. Great memories of being a kid. I think so many kids nowadays miss the kinds of things that we got to do and enjoy. It truly is a different time, kinda sad. Love ya'll! Pam in South Carolina 😊

We bought a smaller home with more land and while remodeling it lived in our motor home. All of our belongings were put in storage except for necessities, never got our stuff out when house was finished. We are amazed that we don’t miss it all.

We had a cherry tree and a crab apple tree in Montgomery when I was a girl and our neighbor next door had a pomegranate tree and a fig tree. And we traded fruits

I agree! I had 45 yrs of stuff that I had to deal with before moving. I had yard sales, sold on line, gave away and then a dumpster. I realized I don’t have to hold on to memories, they are all in My mind.

I couldnt agree more! I sold my big home, had an estate sale and sold nearly everything I owned. We now live in a less than 500 sq ft home and love it! IT is so liberating to be free of all those years of accumulated stuff! My kids will never have to go through tons of "things" and are so grateful!

My dad uses the pickup with feed to move the cattle. You can also put feed in back of gator style vehicle. He just honks his horn and they follow.
