I don't think they waited for D.O. to leave SM. It's probably have more to do with getting permission to sing the song.

Might be but i think most of it is due to SM. Directors already talked about how hard it is to get permission from SM to let Kyungsoo sing OST for his own movie/film. N none of collab request are fulfilled too during his term in SM.
