I can't believe Ryan found a Fighting conch! I found one piece during my vacay there but that was it. The "I don't have any internet" had me dying 😅 Nice helmet and bonnet too, and the smattering of perfect whelks. It seemed to me like the most productive days on that beach were always when it was cold out. Happy hunting!

Cold and windy are usually good signs of productive days on that beach for sure. Although we ran into an issue this trip and one we had afterwards where the wind was so strong it really covered up a lot of shells and I'm sure we missed plenty, we also found plenty and this was a great day. As you could easily tell from our reactions we couldn't believe we found the Fighting Conch, either! Interesting to hear you found a fragment, because other than your fragment and the shell we found in this video, I haven't seen or heard of any other Fighting conchs found in this part of the Outer Banks (not that I know about every shell found there).

Wow! What a shelling adventure! Fighting Conchs are not difficult to find, particularly in the SE US, but it's extremely rare to find one as far North as we did!

Thank you very much! Salvo is great for shells and fishing in May! We got into shelling a few years back in the off-season when the fishing was slow and it's sort of turned into its own season for us, just like you have with hunting and fishing. While I am chomping at the bit to get in some spring fishing, I'll miss the shelling part until next winter. That said, if you are doing some surf fishing and you get set up early and have time to walk or drive the beach a little, you can definitely find some shells in Salvo.

@@fatherandsonsfishing yessirrrr I surf fish and inlet fish at OBX I caught some stingrays, croaker, pinfish, and one tiny red drum last year lol this year I want a big flounder or drum 😂 and some cool shells!
