I have been a big Motown fan since I was a little girl in the 1960s. I've seen the video of that performance on Ed Sullivan. They were so on point. Nobody would expect any less. Plus, they were Motown's biggest acts at the time. Loved your reaction!

Cool little story behind the last song "(I know) I'm losing you", the song is originally in the key of C, but for Diana ross they made it higher (in E flat). David was pretty pissed about it, but he still did the performance and crushed Diana Ross with this crazy scream at 5:35. That was part of David personality I guess, he's probably the last singer you want to have a vocal duel against ! Incredible voice. If you have the time, check out his version of "Rainy night in Georgia", it's really beautiful. :)

Of course the arrangers changed the key to optimize the vocal range of the person singing lead at the time. Since they were doing each other's hits, the key was adapted for Diana rather than David's key. He's was a wonderful, dynamic singer; however screaming is not crushing ...it's just hollering.

No, this is from their first TV appearance together - on the Ed Sullivan Show. By the time they did the 'TCB' Special, David was gone and replaced by Dennis Edwards!

Ed Sullivan said it wrong. The Temptations were never The Primes. Two members, Paul Williams and Eddie Kendricks along with Wiley Waller were The Primes up till 1958. Then Wiley Waller left or was replaced by Kell Osborne. Those were the Primes. We all know that group broke up and then Paul Williams and Eddie Kendricks got together with Otis Williams, Melvin Franklin and Elbridge ‘Al’ Bryant. Al was let go then David Ruffin joined the group.

Yes, and Martha Reeves & the Vandellas were called the Vandellas, and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles were called the Miracles.

@@jackb9095 They were NEVER called The Vandellas..........they originated as "Martha and The Vandellas" from the beginning. Only Martha's last name was added. So, the only groups whose names were significantly changed were berry Gordy's best friend and vice president of Motown, Smokey Robinson and Berry Gordy's whore, Diane Ross. None of the other numerous groups at Motown got to change their name to single out one particular member.
