My trip through some of the comments was rather annoying today.... To everyone who is crowing about the rooster collar being "cruel", I ask you: did you pay close attention to the fact that he specifically said, several times, that is is meant to REDUCE crowing, not stop it completely. There IS a such thing as excessive noise, believe it or not; farm or not. They also have another baby coming from what I've read and seen, which will mean making sure things aren't EXCESSIVE to the point of unbearable. The collar doesn't prevent him from making noise at all, just from doing so a ridiculous amount. He isn't hurting and he isn't otherwise inhibited by the collar. There IS a fine line between allowing natural behavior and tweaking unnatural or excessive behavior of some kinds. That is perfectly fine. They are taking responsibility as his owners in trying to manage his behavior instead of putting responsibility on him and getting rid of him for it. Whether they decide to keep the collar or not shouldn't be anyone else's decision, especially anyone from the KZbin comments sections. -.-

I agree. Iv known people who have smaller homesteads or just land and the rooster would keep them, the kids and the people who lived by them up. Iv know people who killed their rooster at night over nights of no sleep *yes they did use the food but still* roosters can be great or the newborn who never sleeps and needs to also tell you one more story all in one lol. This would help if your rooster got to that point. I dont think anyone wants silent animals but just like your dogs cats etc can bug you at 3am and they get in trouble (as much as you can...cause heck all animals know we are wimps and give in lol) you dont let your other animals be crazy if you can help it.

I have said it in a prior episode. Silkie roosters like that are culled in breeding programs. I currently have 3 roos hitting 6 months from hatch. All 3 are starting to crow. 2 are aggressive, 1 is well-natured lady caretaker. The latter will not be culled. The former 2 are considered major faults in the breed that should not be perpetuated in a fancy bantam.

I’m a high schooler with a backyard flock at my parents house in a neighborhood. Until I can buy or rent land, I need to make do and respect my neighbors. I worked hard to make the setup and buy the breed I intend to raise for the long run. The breeder I got them from second guessed whether a 5 month old is a roo. Looks more like a hen but I took the chance. No crows so far. I’m hoping if it is a rooster it’ll be a less frequent crower. I’ll see how things go- unlikely someone will want a young rooster unless it’s for dinner. If it comes down to it I’ll try out a collar. If people put them on dogs with the same neck space, it’s the same when done correctly on a chicken. It is also unfair that my neighbor can lock their loud dog on the balcony from 5am through most of the day while said dog scratches at the door barking to be let back in. My town won’t do anything about it. Or the fact that like clockwork everyday 5 dogs in the neighborhood have a barking competition for an hour. If people can have barking dogs, roosters that crow at a reasonable rate and time should also be allowed. I personally think barking is very annoying. Crowing is more pleasant sounding and natural :)
@legaleagle3085 жыл бұрын
Roosters can be so mean! I’m glad Tinman is doing ok. Hopefully he can get a break from being picked on. Really interesting on the Velcro to stop your rooster from crowing. Thanks for sharing!
@maggies.43485 жыл бұрын
We did use one of these on our rooster but his feathers ended up looking terrible underneath so we did finally take it off of him. Honestly, having kind neighbors is so important when you have chickens in town. Go around to your neighbors and ask them if its any bother to them if you have a chicken, specifically a crowing rooster. As long as no one has any complaints, it is do-able to have a rooster in town. A crowing rooster is no worse than a barking dog and if any neighbors are on the fence about it, invite them over, let them meet your small flock. (Also fresh eggs help as well). Its totally preference for if you want to put one of these on or not because it is not going to have any negative effects. I would not have tried it if it was harmful to his health, I just decided to discontinue using it due to the affect on the visual appearance of my rooster.

I don't think the collar thing seems cruel at all. We've also used a gentle leader with our dog before (which directs the dogs head to the side if he tries to pull forward, which defeats the point of pulling and helps correct the behaviour). Pretty much seems like the same thing - a device that makes undesirable behaviour less comfortable or effective, thereby discouraging it. Yeah, its "natural" for a rooster to crow, but it's also natural for the cats to be intact and no one was complaining when they were neutered. We do all sorts of unnatural things to the animals we live alongside. And I'm pretty sure we always have. I mean, even the existence of a silky rooster was probably us interfering with nature.

Tinman is a very pretty rooster. What I found out from my rooster is it's not a permanent solution. Either the Crow collar or Velcro I tried starts eventually digging into their neck which causes a health issue. And no I did not have a too tight or too loose it was just on him for too long. So is soon as that started happening I got the collar off of him amediately and found him a great home.

In case you weren't aware, USPS postage stamps will cost 55 cents beginning Sunday, January, 27th. You can order them, online, or purchase them at most grocery stores.

I had bully broiler silkies (they are much bigger then normal silkies and they are considered meat birds). They were relentless, I had to separate the brothers and it helped a lot. Be mindful of no-crow collars they can cause death if the chicken accidentally aspirates. I have had up to 21 roosters at one time together and only 4 crowed. They did not crow overnight. One used to crow at 4am and for other reasons I was looking in the coop saw him crowing and then saw my oldest hen reach over and peck him square on top of the head (kind of like a snooze button) and he never did it again. I now have 6 roosters and only 1 crows, if I am around they never crow around me. I don't do anything special, it might be just the luck I have or my setup or my hens but this crowing all night long I think is a different indicator for a problem with environment not the individual rooster. There may be unseen predators lurking or since you have food in their area where they sleep they may crow when they see it. I don't know but I think all night crowing (when they should be asleep) is something else then just a loud rooster.

+Kelly Buzzard - we don't plan on using the collar for longer than to test it out. We don't have any other roosters that crow throughout the night. He gets a little light from the pole light on the property... but I don't know why he's up every couple hours throughout the night. Must have bladder issues 😀

It worked on my roosters, but the Velcro has to be 2” wide to work. It didn’t stop just lowered the volume. My Silkie roosters were also very mean and fought all the time.

We call them Bantam Roosters in Australia & yes they can be so mean & VICIOUS- every time I would stay at my neices' property (stay there at least once week ) their little bantam rooster would stalk me & actually attack. It started doing it to everyone even her 11yr old daughter who raised him & most of the chickens- they couldn't give him away as they were afraid he would attack others- he has since passed away from a snake bite & I am not sad at all sorry. Bad - Mean & Nasty little rooster. The old big rooster has taken his hens back yeah !!!!!!! Cheers Denise- Australia

+Denise Brady - we've had a few roosters that we initially loved that we had to cull because of their agression towards us and the boys. Never easy, but has to be done.

Our house rooster (a bantom) wear's a collar and he doesn't seem to mind, he still crows but its no where near what it use to be pre collar. It works better with 2 pieces together of velcro so you can work it better and gives just enough give for comfort but less stress on the rooster.

The suburban chronic leaf blowers, weed hackers and lawn mowers are far more annoying than the sound of a rooster. We have raised what we thought were 3 hens but 2 are now definitely roosters. It is the wrong time of year to introduce new hens and near impossible to find homes for 3 month old roosters X 2. Thanks for trying this no crow collar out we will try it and maybe we can keep at least one rooster in the suburbs without annoying the neighbours.

We have 2 roosters and 4 hens and the roosters alwyas fight but when i see that i just step outside and get close to them and make one go away and i dont let them get near eachother but this only works since the roosters grew up together and we always tty to make sure any fighting has a punishment weather it be being put in a coop with no hens or just getting half its food portion for a morning
