Hi Brook, hi Rebecca, 3 years has seen a lot of changes hasn't it? I remember when you first planted those big beds, and all the work that went into preparing them. Look what you've achieved! It's all looking so lush and productive. I would love to sink my teeth into some of that fruit, and oh those giant zuccinis! Slabbed up and crumbed, fried in butter, salt and pepper - bliss! Hope you're all fit and well? Much love and big hugs xxx
@LivingintheLoire Жыл бұрын
That's a great idea for cooking them! We've got a freezer full of fruit already! A friend gave us a dehydrator so I think we might try dehydrating a couple of greengages to see how they turn out. All fit and well at the moment 👍

You should give the irises a good haircut after you plant them, for 2 reasons: the wind will have less purchase on them. and their energy will go to making roots rather than keeping the leaves alive. Master Gardener from Georgia, born in Angers long ago!!!

Wow, you both got so much done in 3 years . Well done . I love to see how the land and building are coming along and how much they have changed. 😊. Really wish you and your beautiful family the best , the very best . One of my sun flowers is 9 foot tall 😅. I find with iris they just flower for a week and then gone. So I got early spring ones and summer ones they had flowered and gone before I knew it. They are a beautiful plant, just wish they would flower for longer. Same with llilies the effort to grow them for them to flower once and not for long then 😮 if a wind gets them head blown off.😂.
@LivingintheLoire Жыл бұрын
You win the sunflower competition 😂. In general I'm really bad at cutting flowers for the house as I love having them in the garden. However this year I did cut a big bunch of irises as it was so windy when they were flowering I thought they wouldn't last two minutes outside.

I'm a new subscriber. This overview is nice to help me catch up. Really enjoying your channel. PS - I have a good recipe for those over-sized courgettes: Remove woody seeds, shred them coarsely with a food processor. (Small courgettes can't be shredded as they are too soft.) For each 1 cup (250 ml), add: 1 egg, about 2 ml salt, 15 ml chopped onion, at least 50 ml grated Parmesan, and 60 ml dried potato flakes. Add herbs such as basil and garlic to taste. The batter should be thick enough for a spoonful to make a nice blob when you drop it into a pan. Pan-fry spoonfuls of the batter till they hold together like a potato cake. This is a family favorite. We store shredded zucchini in the freezer for a winter treat. Apparently potato flakes are not a "thing" in Europe. One could use bread crumbs in a similar ratio, or maybe mashed potato.
@LivingintheLoire Жыл бұрын
Thanks Lisa, love the recipe. I was about to say I'd never heard of potato flakes. Breadcrumbs seems like a good replacement so will give it a go 😊

Definitely! They won't last the winter outside. You can try pitting them up in the autumn and bringing them inside and then planting out again next summer. Or just treat them as annuals.
