I have been sailing since I was 5yrs old, from racing to cruising with my family. I also was in the coast guard as an adult and I have been apart of many experiences like that. You just have to do what you have to sometimes. Whatever works!! Great job guys!! I wish I have you guys around if something goes wrong, so thank you for being you!!

SAR procedures for assisting a vessel in distress are: fire off a flare in the vicinity of the vessel in distress. Four short blast on the air horn, repeat a minute later. Make a radio distress call with location, Lat Long. Just because you can't hear them doesn't mean they can't hear you. Then go help.

Hi guys! I so enjoyed your video, so exciting. I laughed when you said this was the worse experience ever, over and over….. that's sailing for you, right? I love how you were so normal, admitted how scared you were and not sure about what to do but figured it out best you could. You are both kind and caring people like most full timers are. We only did it for a year. We were going to wait for retirement but thank the Lord we didn't as it would never have happened so I hope people listen to your advice and do it while you can. It was the best year of our lives. I wish you many more happy and safe years of sailing, all three of you. 🐾😁

Back in he late 80's a retired navy guy bought a $200K 32' NEW sailboat from where I worked. No GPS then only paper charts, parralel rules, compass, etc.He knew NOTHING abt. sailing. He was supposed to LEAVE, but every morning something would be broken that we'd have to fix. Like the compass light... he must've unhooked it at night so we'd have to fix it the next day. We had a 100 pt. check list on all new boats so EVERYTHING was working when he stepped foot on. After a week of delays (fixing things he'd sabotage at night) he finally left, after his wife & kids drove back home (they were supposed to sail with him). He left not with paper charts, but with a TEXACO ROAD MAP. He hit 2 RRoad brigde bulk heads & ran onto rocks... was towed into a marina 12 mile away & hauled out as the boat was sinking. TRUE STORY!

You guys are totally right with time moving quickly than we expect. With that to change direction in life can be the best decision we make. I’ve just bought a Fisher 25 with my Wife in the 🇬🇧. & etting ready for the summer. I’ve seen some of you work & love this video. Maybe time for a binge watching on a miserable day. These anchor dragging problems should have never have happened. The sailor wanna-bees should have put out TWO anchors in a "V" pattern from the bow with proper scope (7:1; 7 feet or rode for every 1 foot of depth) when anchoring in a harbor, especially overnite. This can be accomplished in close mooring quarters also. Also, be familiar with what's around you if you do drag and ANTICIPATE. That's the whole secret of safely sailing: Anticipate.

Absolutely amazing video of the reality about sailing. I'm a Canadian chicken sailing between Miami and the Bahamas in the winter season. So glad you made this video. I thought my channel shows the reality of a life at sea. Good on ya. Really enjoying the video's.. Nothing is ever for certain all you can do is sail and live free..

Very educative video, thanks for sharing that. Rescues are the hardest thing to do safely and kuddos to you for not compromising your safety in either case. These guys that got the line in their propeller seemed to have no idea what they were doing. One thing though, in the 50knot gust in that storm, it was unclear about the risks of the situation, the seas were calm, no sails up, not by shore...would be interested to hear more on that.

I think the lesson here is don't anchor in the same anchorage as you guys, as you bring bad luck. 😂 In all seriousness, nice work for helping and a great video. See you round the islands 🛥⛵🏝🤙

You probably know this now but toilet seat covers should always be down on sailboats when the head is not in active use. This keeps items from falling in and getting sucked into the pump.

Hahaha good point! We ended up learning another trick from a fellow cruiser…museum putty under all our organizers and even our plants and picture frames to keep them from sliding around.

with modern technology today and a little thing on the chart plotter called an anchor alarm there is no excuse for dragging anchor and running aground. Back in my day we sailed with paper charts because GPS navionics were too expensive for the average sailor. Our inshore navigation was LoranC. If I ever get to do it over again I'm going to be spoiled with modern navionics and push button sailing.
