Absolutely heartbreaking to hear about sophie! I’m glad the school acted appropriately and quickly! Still doesn’t rectify the situation or take away from the fact it happened! Hope you had a fab birthday Joel! Please do a grief video Sarah, I lost my dad after a 3 week battle with cancer during Covid and haven’t even started the grief process yet, with a baby only 7 months old at the time and a single mum all my effort and time has gone into him x

Guys, im not even 10 minutes in and i need to say to you, dont ever feel you need to justify how you refer to your Sophie's needs. She is your 'special' girl like all our kids are 'special' to us and you term it how you wish. You do an absolutely amazing job, which again, I'll say is not easy. Some days are harder then others ❤ Soph will thrive in secondary, building friendships, social skills, independence, and life skills. Keys things she needs in her life. I dont know any of you but anyone can see what a loving family you are and the team work you have is special! There will always be people out there who just don't understand children and adults with disabilities so will bully or be mean to them. It isn't ok and in this day and age everyone should be accepted for who they are, additional needs or not! I'm so passionate about this and as 'SEND' with young children of all additional needs is my day to day job I'll stand up for what is right and be a voice for people who can't always do this themselves. As you both are so rightly doing too. Sending love to you all xxx Keeping doing you and let others do them. ❤

My heart broke as soon as you said about the taxi, I'm so sorry this has happened. As a mum of a daughter with additional needs ( my 9 year old is awaiting ADHD and autism diagnosis) the thought of any kind of bullying is terrifying, I also refer to my little lady as having a special brain so it's lovely to hear someone else use the same term! We are lucky to have such amazing kids! ❤ Sending Sophie lots of love xx

I've been a silent watcher of you guys since DadVGirls started up and I lost my mum in 2018 when I was 18. I still remember watching one of your videos for the first time since she died and just sobbing watching Sarah with the girls because it reminded me so much of the unconditional love my mum showed me and I just thought how lucky they are to have a mother like Sarah. 6 years on I watch and find your family such a comfort. Sarah just being herself has helped me through my own grief in ways she could probably never imagine and if she feels comfortable discussing her brother and her own grief journey it would be extremely touching to hear. Love you guys!

Sophie is just the sweetest kid. I am autistic and I always thought she was autistic. She’s so lucky to have to you both on her side!! The terms disability and special needs, I really think it’s a personal choice, neither are offensive. It just gives an umbrella term for what is different about an individual

SEN 1:1 teacher here. Our school is actually a mainstream school but we have an amazing dedicated SEN team. We get so many parents trying to move their children to our school because of it 😅 Special needs is accurate terminology. We refer to the children with needs in our school amongst ourselves as the SEN children (Special Educational Needs Children). Even when you do all your training, all the legislation and things your read all use the term SEN. Nothing offensive about it, that's simply the terminology. Also, the way you explain it to Chloe is similar to the way I explain it to my year 1s. I am a 1:1/LSA (learning support assistant) for 2 autistic year 1 children. That means my main priority is working closely with those two children but I also help out in the class with general tasks so I'm very close to the other children as well and they feel very comfortable to ask me questions. When other children ask why the SEN kids do certain things, I say their brains work differently to yours which means they don't understand things the same way you do, and things that are easy for you are hard for them such as staying sitting on the carpet or going to assembly because it's very loud. With the volume thing I say what sounds like a normal volume for you sounds like screaming for them and it's very painful on their ears that way they have to wear special ear defenders to make it quieter. They seem to understand when you put it that way and it makes them empathetic and patient. They actually fight about who gets to help my SEN children do certain tasks. It's so beautiful to see. The innocence and kindness of a 5 year old is something I wish everyone kept as they get older. We actually also have a little boy with global delay in my year 1 cohort and he has so many friends right now and he's doing so well. I just hope that as they all get older that patience and acceptance of him remains the same.

The fact that Sophie was bullied in the taxi is shocking. As someone who use to take special needs children to school the driver and passenger assistant have sole responsibility for them. The fact that they didn’t even tell you and the school about it and let it carry is definitely a huge concern. If you haven’t reported it to your local council you should. The driver and passenger assistant needs to be reeducated. But i am pleased that the school have sorted it out and she goes in with a different taxi and group of kids.
