I allowed myself another day of diving into the 'Unreal'-world before pulling the plug on my PC for the holidays.... and it was so much fun. A few hours into my Megascans Trees - project I went on KZbin and saw the trailer for the upcoming Robert Eggers film 'The Northman' and I thought to myself that I hadn't actually done anything viking-related in Unreal Engine 5 yet, even though I have the Valhalla Kitbash3D set. And thus, I interrupted my other project tho just try some stuff out.
The fire.... doesn't look as good as it should in some shots and also the Depth of Field is suffering in some places. Which is all fair because this is still an early acces UE5 and I also did not at all pay attention to optimization like I normally do. (I was in a true create-it-all-in-unreal craze.).
I did however experiment with subsurface profile material settings to give some SSS to the snow, which really gave it a cooler look than it would have had without it (and cheated a little bit with the Sky Light color to get some blue back into the snow as well)
Anyway, I hope this might inspire you to create or dream. And the name of the song is 'Blue Crystal Fire' by Fire! Orchestra.
