Today Leon had a doctor appointment with a new doctor and he got a new diagnosis, then I read Leon a bedtime story before putting him to bed.

I was so touched to hear Leon say Momma. I don't know if he has been doing this for awhile or not but the first time I heard it. I will never forget the first time my youngest so who is autistic came over and patted me on the check and said momma. It was two weeks before his second birthday and and it was his first word. He made up for lost time though as he never did babytalk and was speaking in whole sentences and paragraphs within a couple of months. He had started therapy long before autism was well none, actually before most people had ever heard of it. He was 19 months when the therapist came to the house to works with him and what a fight to put a three piece wood puzzle together. The teacher recommended that we get him some as the one she was using was hers. We were poor then and didn't have the money for toys. I was telling the ladies at church about how he was doing as he was so obviously different than the other ones his age. I mentioned the puzzles and wasn't asking for one, just mentioned it as a recommendation. The next Sunday one of the women had bought him a brand new wooden puzzle for him. My son is turning 37 on Sunday and is completely independent. Lives on his own, makes and saves his own money, has no debts works a full time job that when the boss is away he is in charge and he works part time for a grocery delivery business which this pandemic has made him some real money this year. I am no expert on autism, but I can usually pick a kid with it out of a crowd. I've never had that feeling about Leon. He is missing a lot because of his hearing problems. Definitely his CP diagnosis is going to help him get into more and better therapies. But as I have watched your show this year, I have seen Leon do things that I never could get my son to do. He never enjoyed opening presents and had no qualms about saying so and/or saying why did you get me this, I didn't want it. The very first Christmas that I ever saw him actually enjoying opening presents, he was 19 so when Leon dives into packages and envelopes I am seeing something I never got to see with my youngest. I hope that as he gets more therapy, will leave his hearing aid on so he has an easier time learning to talk, etc. things might be easier. BTW I am a retired RN so not some silly mom. From HS on, I enjoyed reading books about children with unnamed disabilities and how they were helped. I feel now that God was very much preparing me to be the mother of a child with that sort of disability. I learned with him, the usual child raising things never worked. I never once got to rock him to sleep in my arms, he did many odd things, and repeated the same sounds over and over. I still remember that at age 10 he still could not tie his shoes. One day he came home from his grocery store job and told me how he had seen and old lady toddling along with both her shoe strings untied. Scared she would trip and fall, he stop her and tied her shoes for her. I cried and just thinking about it brings me to tears all over again. But what we did must have worked. I hope that your little guy will surprise you as well.

My son was diagnosed with cp too even though he didn’t suffer any brain injuries but because of his seizures he has low muscle tone and that is considered cp, but having a cp diagnoses definitely helped with getting equipment that he needs.

When Leon was laying on his bed, he looked just like a picture of one of my brothers as a child. Now I have to dig that picture out lol. He looked so sweet. Wow, guys, not sure if the diagnosis helps determine his therapy and progress. I bet u have many emotions right now. Thoughts are with you. I get how you feel But it truly is a way for viewers to thank you for letting us into your life and you've created an atmosphere with your blogs that makes us all feel included and a part of and we just want to send you guys some sunshine back. I haven't even watched the video yet, but I have cerebral palsy as well. That's my only diagnosis. I was diagnosed with it at birth and I'm 26 now. I know with you guys as his parents Leon will lead a rich and fulfilling life, regardless of whatever diagnosis he's given. By the way, I've been watching you guys for about six months. I actually went back and watched all your old videos from the beginning, and I've got to say that you've quickly become my favorite KZbin channel. PS: I also have satellite Internet, so I know your pain lol. Watching a movie on Disney+ is a task! For some reason, Netflix works good, though. I don't know if you guys have the same issue, but it makes no sense because it's essentially the same concept.

From three to five they were trying out different things with my mobility like first a walker then crutches. I was born with Spina Bifida, not sure if I had mentioned that before. Well with the walker, because I was so little, every time it would get caught on something I would just drop to the floor and continue on crawling. It wasn’t until I got my first pair of crutches that i took off.

Hearing a diagnosis can be hard, but you seem to be taking it all in and processing it very well. As parents, we know our kids and can sense when something is different. It's great that you found a doctor to help you get that sense figured out. You guys are doing amazing with Leon. He's very lucky to have you as parents. Stay vigilant. And as far as the baby registry goes, i absolutely get where you're coming from I'm the same way. But if people are asking you for the list or saying they already wanted to get the baby something they know you want/need, just give in with giving out the list. Just keep counting your blessings that there are caring, loving people out there that care for your family. I love your family and you're just amazing. You rock!

I want to say sorry to hear about Leon’s CP diagnosis. But I totally get why you’re happy. Sometimes you just need answers so you can get the best help. And now you have the answers, Leon will get more of the help he needs to develop. I just love the way you see outside of the box, and you treat Leon just like any parent would treat a child without disability. You encourage him to try everything he wants to try and that will give him so much independence. I have so much respect for you. I’m not a doctor, but due to my illness (Congenital Rubella Syndrome), I have a lot of experience with autism and autistic behaviours as it’s part of the syndrome. Some CRS people are on the spectrum, I’m not. But I do have some autistic traits. Many relating to the need for routine and clarity. Some memory problems. Communication problems, which drastically improved with therapy and I can sometimes be over stimulated by certain noises. Also, I would have no problem hanging out next to Leon playing with his sensory blanket and pillow. I’m an adult. But certain types of sensory input is relaxing. All of my traits/behaviours are due to multiple sensory loss (deafblindness) caused by the CRS. I understand why you feel like seeing Leon line up cars, flap his hands and enjoy sensory play might be autism related. But I know Charge Syndrome also causes dual sensory loss. And that may very well be why Leon exhibits the behaviours. The therapy might help with some of that. So don’t worry. You’re great parents and everything will turn out good in the end. 🤗 Greetings from the Netherlands. CJ.

A wheelchair can be great help! Especially as they grow and get heavier to carry. Just please don't give up on him walking! (I know you won't) Share the info hun, If people don't want to do something they won't. If someone wants to give a gift, it's ok! :)

We actually advocate for his wheelchair to ONLY be used for transport and NOT therapy, play, or any activities, I think he will walk independently one day with his walker because every time we put him on his feet he starts taking steps, he wants to walk soooooo bad
