this! I always say people wont know the impact of representation, unless they themselves have gone decades without it. Straight people will never be able to fully understand what a dance like this means to us, and thats okay! I watched strictly every year for the past like eight/nine years with my nan, and now watching this routine with her, we were both crying. Im not "out" but im not exactly subtle nor hiding it, amd to see this routine on a show ive watched since i was seven meant so much tome. I sob everytime i watch it. This will go down in strictly history.

It's actually even more than that, the two men dancing yes, and then all the other same sex couples and yet another layer is on top of it. The fact that specifically a black man is also the higher european noble in this scenario (all the others bow to him) is also very meaningful I think.

Many will not even know that this was the way way back in history. Dance was almost considered "foreplay" and men and women getting up so close was considered too sexual so, unless they were spouses, men danced with men and women danced with women.

This used to be considered usual dancing. Men danced with men and women danced with women. It has only been made unusual by recent society. However, i just love the way Johannes and Kai are so in step with each other and it is a beautiful dance.

Johannes is from South Africa and so is my partner. I grew up in totalitarian/communist regime and my partner grew up in apartheid regime. We are a rainbow couple. 🌈 To see this during #blackhistorymonth brought tears to our eyes. Long live King Johannes. 💚

The dance, the song, the outfits, Johannes' emotion at the end, his partner running up to take his hand... Beautiful. When I’m despairing about the state of the country I come back to this video. Strictly got so many ofcom complaints the year before because Johannes danced with another man for barely a minute and they responded with this. Perfection 🏳️‍🌈

I know she'd long gone by now, but I give SO much thanks to Nicola Adams every time I watch this. Her choice to ask for a same-sex coupling didn't just open the floodgates, it *broke* them. And I LOVE how we get to watch same-sex dances like this every year now, just as a part of the course. I don't think there's been a year without a same-sex coupling since her and Katya either. And now other dance shows are following suit. I just love it, and I wish I'd grown up seeing this level of representation.

This is the greatest pro dance that has ever been done on strictly. On a season of 1st male couple partnership, this dance moved me more than any. As a straight man what it showed to me, was the sheer joy of dancing, the female pros were partnered with females and the male pros were partnered with males, but it didn't matter, the sheer joy that was transmitted whilst dancing to that beautiful piece of music made me think differently than I had thought before, and that always has to be a good think. @@laughforlife3539 Lillia was my favourite when I was a kid. Then flavia and vincent. I understand that some dances can lend to be made a bit more “modern”. But there’s something much more special when the dances are traditional. Also do you remember when there was 2 dances a week that everyone had to do? Like everyone would have to do either a waltz or cha cha one week, then switch the following week. It was easier to judge couples against each other more fairly

Where is the Latin 4 and 1 beats in the music it's not just about the feet. Sorry got carried away. I wanna be swept away with Frank's under my spell or zing went the strings of my heart for quickstep or even reet petite to the jive. I agree the dances are all over the place now. You can't compare. Couple choice and Charleston are obviously gonna get 9 and tens. Kinda not fair when somebody doing a foxtrot or samba lol

Small miserable lives and minds, my first ever comment six years ago on a series called ‘Outlander’ I received a hate message from a complete stranger, I could have ignored it but I was so upset and in shock I challenged the perpetrator and explained my situation and comment which was personal to my health and still is, I received an immediate apology but the damage was done! Some people speak before they think unfortunately, it hasn’t prevented me commenting six years on, and I have received some wonderful messages from kind hearted people, some of which are now my close friends, I consider myself most fortunate, this performance from these professional young men is the best I have ever seen personally! “👌”

I think the way Strictly have done it this year has been commendable. I have to admit I cried the first 5 times I watched this, and I still tear up now. It came at such good timing as well - I came out the week before and I feel amazing, supported, seen, thanks to this dance. Beautiful, exquisite, tender. 🥰😘🌈

This is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen and I grew up with the Bolshoi. The music, the choreography, everything was sublime. But the most exquisite is Johannes and Kai together in what can only be described as a celebration of human spirit. Bravo!

Loved everything about this dance. What I also enjoyed was the speed of Johannes and Kai's movement around the floor. They took up hold and then 'whoosh' they were off, spinning and flying around the dance floor. They covered so much distance that the floor needed to be about twice the size! Every contestant should watch this as an example of the movement and drive that the judges are always asking for. Brava to all, pride and joy.

This is something that would have benefitted from being at Blackpool with the large dance floor. But what also helped it look so sweeping was the camera movement. The way it follows them round gives it extra motion
