Barrier tattoo from Tasha The VR version gives 18AC which stacks with dex mod and shields. Gives 18 base AC when not wearing any other armor, stacks with shields, and can be argued to stay worn when wildshaped. Great for tankier builds as well as those which don't have the extra HP of the moon druid

My Druid has a Staff of Healing, and it's genuinely been a combat-winning item. Our DM tends to roll a lot of crits on us, and having the Mass Cure Wounds on the whole party is really useful - especially because I'm playing a damage-focused, spellcaster Druid. Definitely recommend.

For the druid, one could reskin Scale Mail armor as Crocodile Scale Armor, so that they could get that 14+ 2dex worth of AC. I mean, there's always stuffed crocodiles and other such creatures in a wizard's workshop - whose to say that a druid, who wanted some extra protection, wouldn't borrow the scales of a crocodile? Besides, giant crocodiles have an ac of 14, so it could work.

For the druidic sentinel shield, hide and wicker shields are also quite historic. An oval of the densely woven roots of a bog oak or a stretchered froghemoth skin could be very visual.

As for the Rod of Absorption, RAW Counterspell targets the creature, not the spell. This has been confirmed by Jeremy Crawford. So you should be able to absorb a Counterspell that's targeting you if: - you haven't used your reaction yet during the round _(and)_ - the spell you're trying to cast doesn't require a somatic/material component _(or)_ - your other hand is free to perform the somatic/material component of the spell you're casting (even if it has both S,M components because they can be done by the same hand per the PHB).

I've never agreed with the druids aversion to metal. From a taoist philosophy, metal is considered an element in it's own right. For naturalists and common sense, I see metal as a natural and perfect union of earth and fire, and I've always allowed druids to use metal gear in my games

Love these ideas thanks guys! I second the reflavoring existing items, especially to make a PC feel special. Pearl of power and staff of healing I've seen reflavored unique to a deity so inky a cleric or paladin of them can use it and the pedal of power also reflavored as an undying flower for a druid. Love putting unique descriptions to existing items tk make them feel unique and fresh!

never seen a debate over Counterspell while casting another spell it only has somatic but I have seen people say that using a magic item has to be an action but I have also seen JC mention that it would be pointless for it to take an action to interact with a magic object if it is a scroll of counterspell. he implied that if a magic item used a spell it used the economy of the spell plus the Rod specifies reaction. it would kinda defeat the purpose of the item if you have to hold your action to wait for the unwanted spell to target you.

I introduced a homebrew variant for insignia of claws that gives additional special abilities when in the presence of a dragon. The wearer can see through the dragon's eyes and get a sense for its upcoming attacks, providing some defensive reaction capabilities. It might only come up once in the campaign, but could make for a fun moments.

Another potential cleric item that brings some of “Moses and the Seven Plagues” vibe, Staff of Swarming Insects. It has 10 charges to cast Giant Insect, Insect Cloud, and Insect Plague. My DM picked this out when I joined the group because by then, everyone had a magical item. I’ve gotten some really great use out of it, especially when I have the space to throw out Insect Plague and catch a lot of enemies in the space. I’ve even severely injured/killed two wyverns with it!

Hey Dudes, this was overall a cool video and I love your content, but there's something you might want to keep an eye out for. Taking inspiration from this video, I gave my Level l2 Druid a Staff of the Python. Only after giving it out did I realize that the Python also *regains all its hitpoints* when it becomes a staff again. So my Druid can use the Python to soak damage for the party and do quite a bit of damage itself, turn it back into a staff, and do it all over again, infinitely. This makes things way too easy at low levels; the Python is basically *inevitable* unless killed, and you'd be hard-pressed to find a setup that can achieve that, especially if you're a new DM. And it basically spells out "I am gunning to destroy your magic item" which is not fun for the player. My solution was to give the Python similar healing mechanics as the players. It has 8d12 hit dice (from its associated stat block), which it can spend on a short rest, or it can regain all its HP at dawn (long rest or not).

My druid has two fabulous magic items, The Candle of Invocation, which allows him to cast first level spells like they are cantrips and not worry about spell slots. The Staff of Swarming Insects, which allows him to be in heavy obscurement, but be able to see OUT of that obscurement without any penalty. I love sitting in my cloud of bugs and fling ice knives out at advantage.

i had the staff of woodlands as a neutral evil LIzardfolk spore druid, i did a similar thing with downtime and created an army of awakened trees using the staff however i also had the trees hollowed out and filled with spore zombies, lol. I sent the trees into a warcamp of a faction we were working against and had the trees unload all the zombies in hte camp as a distraction. it was alot of fun

Staff of the Woodland could be interresting for a Ranger ... or a Eldritchknight / bladelock. The prayerbeads can make a good growing magic item as you hunt/ create/quest for additional prayerbeads for your necklace. Adamantine armor would be good for the Cleric.

Candle of Invocation for VR is actually really powerful. Say you get a life cleric/druid who can cast goodberry; just using a minute of the candle can give you 10 rounds of casting goodberries. That's already 100 berries that can heal 4 hp each with a total of 400. Do this at the start of adventure and distribute goodies to your party. The item has 4 hours limit, but man, just a minute of this 4 hours (240 mins) is not a big deal. In a typical game, you can probably use 6 minutes of its 240 minute capacity. I usually have this habit: 1. Cast a minute of goodberry at the beginning of adventure (1min of candle) 2. Use a minute of candle when you need advantage of skills checks in non-combat ( 1 min used) 3. Lighten candle when you are facing combats to gain advantage on attack roles and saving throws (1 min used) 4. Used extensively when needed for #3 and #4 (another 2 to 3 mins used) Also have to include the Staff of Swarming Insects. The spells might be useful but the main star here is the insect cloud feature. It gives your character a 10 min heavily obscured shield for 30 radius. I say it's a shield for two reasons. First, enemies get disadvantage when they attack you and two, the obscured field makes you immune to counterspell and other single target spell (unless they have blindsight). Note that true sight doesn't work here and only blindsight can. Your party can use this as a cover too when they are attacked (but note they have to get out on their turn if they want to attack).

Clerics and druids are hard as fuck to shop for. But I recommend Periapt of wound closure: put simply it’s much harder to get the healer back up than it is for the healer to get you back up. Especially front line clerics or druids like war clerics or moon druids will love this item as it makes them not die while the party takes their time scrambling for healing potions. Gloves of missile snaring. A party might be inclined to give this to a dex characters who can reduce the damage by a larger amount. But that’s often either a monk who can already do this or a rogue that already has uncanny dodge. The cleric makes great use of this because among spell casters, unless they are a domain that gives them something like grave, they have the least use of their reaction with neither shield counter spell nor absorb elements, but also one of the most important uses of concentration, bless which they can protect. Animated shield: this is most scary in the hands of druids who can use this when polymorphed or wild shaped. Although the clerics and druids make good use of the animated shield it’s actually best used by non monks who can’t use shields like the arcane casters bard sorcerer wizard warlock, because the penalty for using a shield when you aren’t proficient in it is based on wearing it not using it. If your DM disagrees with that rule though, or if everyone is either a monk or proficient in a shield. The animated shield goes to druids or clerics first provided nobody is using two handed weapons.

I used the staff of the woodlands as an artificer to escape from the temple of Tiamat for our home version of The Rise of Tiamat. It was able to bring me and our barbarian out the temple's open ceiling for our climactic battle.

Only problem I see with the Staff of the Python, is that IF your caster is using it as a spell casting focus and then throws it on the ground.... problems. IF your cleric or druid is a Hill Dwarf, the Periapt of Wound Closure has some nice synergy with the Dwarven Fortitude feat. Especially if you're running into a bunch of enemies with Spirit Guardians active. OR want to heal while in wild shape but don't want to spend spell slots. I think a Druid would prefer Insignia of Claws, but could be a solid cleric alternative if they're a dwarf.

so, i dont generally comment on youtube (most platforms really), but something drew my attention that i must ask. the rod of absorption.. what happens to a spell of a higher tier than the wielder if the rod is used? bit of a left field question, and i prolly know the answer from an old school 2/3e player back in the day (waaaaaaaaaay back in the day lol), but i figured id ask to see if something cannon/official has or was stated about such an encounter. from my experiences my gm/dms*had ppl call themselves either, moot to me regardless*, it would be one of a few things. either, it wouldnt work outright and youd eat (lets use t5 to a 6 spell slot difference ** wielder has t5, opponent has t6**) the contrasting effect while attempting to make it work. youd absorb it with 0 effect aside from not melting into jelly. or it would just fill a charge/slot as per the norm. that being said, and now that my mind is working to that level of effect, i wonder if it would allow for a usage*burn the slot you absorbed till you reach it "naturally" type deally* of said slot/spell without destroying you/it/reality. or potentially given the sheer absurdity of it happening successfully (if there is something to the effect of that precedence happening anywhere in the multiverse and beyond), be a precursor to a quest or ability to upgrade the weapon +x/charges to keep it more **rubbing my bearded chin here to find the right relevance** of a last resort/tpk preventing save/story derailing fun time item later down the road vs selling it off for quick cash for other nonsensical fun stuff (like taking a month, copy, a stack of paper n quill, and making enough magic missile scrolls to siege a BBEG's well fortified fortress solo *** i have done this, its sick af, it will also piss your dm/gm off to literally no end because of how mundane and random it is, not to mention forcing his story to be DOA for that period of absurd and mildly hilarious happenstances with magic vs inanimate objects and a touch of wild magic ;3. i got 2 fireballs outta my mm scrolls and 3 back to back triple cast procs -my buddy made the charts from a guide and a few games beforehand so decently homebrewed but not broken aside from the 19/20 for fireball/chain lightning respectively (((never once rolled a 20 through that for the CL, and i cant even begin to fathom the odds of the 120ish spells that were used overall at that time and lvl, to the degree of not seeing a single 20 @,@))) adding to the fun a bit). but i digress, shared a bit more than i anticipated but, you know.. when the muse speaks, only a fool turns a deaf ear :D. and a touch of personal criticism, and its just cause it bugs me personally (ocd, evil brain, psycho mental itching, you get it lol), can y'all put a poster or something up behind the camera so the one of ya's not talking aint dead staring like a vietnam vet at the camera @.@;; givin me flashbacks from my childhood buddies uncle's bouts with ptsd ^^;;. not trying to be mean, and ive watched everything up to this vid thus far from finding one of the earlier episodes, and will continue to do so. just feels weird to me when i cue into that in the vid at random through my bingng :P. other than that, keep it up! loving the content thus far :D

In 2nd edition my druid had a staff of the python like staff, instead of turning into a snake the staff just grew arms and legs and became a treant. Also that edition had the druid rule that they couldnt use metal, so my shield was made of giant beetle shell
