@sandiegolivin Families dined in Pizza Huts. Taco Bells looked like Missions. Population around 700,000. Obviously far less crime. There was literally never any traffic at any time of the day, not even driving to the Del Mar Fair. There were all kinds of farms and orchards all around that people could visit for wholesome family bonding time… my family used to pick strawberries every year. You had to go downtown to see a homeless person and there weren’t many and there wasn’t a reason to go downtown anyway since I’m talking before Horton Plaza and Gaslamp and the Convention Center. Teenagers weren’t a menace, they were just having innocent fun and not causing any trouble for others, and they all gathered around the beaches or wherever the Trolley took them. The Chargers were great under Dan Fouts and Air Coryell. The Padres went to their first World Series. The Clippers were still in town and the local newscasts showed Sockers highlights and scores along with the Clippers Chargers and Padres. There was definitely a stronger spirit back then.

'94ish - '97 I lived at 727 San Jose right across from the mission cafe. Can't believe that little crappy house is still standing. there used to be castle house next door. rent was $300/person for 2bd. we'd sit on the front porch some Saturday evenings, and watch the expensive cars get towed from the parking lot out front, the lot was owned by a restaurant that was down a few blocks. they'd get customers license numbers and give them to the tow truck drivers. It was hilarious to watch the dudes come back with some blonde hanging on 'em. We'd be laughing so hard. Dude be thinking his car got stolen, calling the cops. we'd let him. Then after the cops told him it was towed, we say, "Hey man, they towed your car. see the sign?" As I point to the HUGE sign that says "YOU WILL BE TOWED". Those we're the friggin' days. every morning a smoke, a cup of joe from the mission cafe, sit on the wall, look for dolphins swimming in the waves. see who had to take a big crap first. run home. haha. 7am, a good time of morning to take it in. The crazies usually didn't come out till afternoon. SO many nutzo stories from those days... so many. oh man. so many. ring drunk as shit along the bay and feeling so ill, then puking in my girlfriend's front yard. oh man, so many stories, so many lost forever.
