Stereotypes are the reason that my parents didn't believe I was gay when I came out in high school. They said there were "no signs" and I was just wanting attention. This lead to me being deeply closeted for over 10 years and struggling with my sexuality. I thought because I didn't fit into typical stereotypes that I wasn't queer enough or that my parents were right, it was just me bring confused. It was awful. I became really depressed. It literally took up to a few months ago for me to be okay with myself and throw all the stereotypes in the garbage. I love women and that's what makes me gay. Literally nothing else.
@jackday30792 жыл бұрын
I agree. Stereotypes have harmed me too. I'm the opposite: everyone always assumed I was a lesbian because of stereotypes. 20 years later I finally realize I'm a gay trans man and that's why "queer" feels good but "lesbian" was just never right for me. Proud of you for finding yourself in all the noise :)

The more masculine stereotype, I totally agree with what's being said. I came out recently, I always dressed the way that people expected of me, with a tiny bit of my own style. Now I came out, I'm finally daring to explore my own style, as in a more masculine style. It makes me feel more confident and I never felt like I was allowed to, until I came out.

this was a really sweet video. queer friendships are amazing!! unrelated - don't feel like you have to have a "hoe phase." There are lots of people who don't have casual sex, and it doesn't mean they have a different sexuality. Everyone's level of trust, safety, vulnerability, etc is different.
@wouldbealex2 жыл бұрын
"Daddy" or "Mommy" "issues." Thing is, even as you folks were discussing it, it almost sounds like people are looking for reasons we're queer. You know? High school biology.... regardless of my relationship and friendship with my parents, I will or will not have baby-fine hair on my fingers above the first, or even, second, knuckle. My dad has blue eyes. My mom has brown eyes. I started with brown eyes. At 50, my eyes roam between hazel, green, and blue. In the words of Meghan Trainor, "G-E-N-E-T-I-C-S," it's my genetics. The dominant gene is the binary. However, just based on high school biology class and the quadrants of recessive genes, why is it so hard to believe that queer, in all of its wonderous forms, would exist naturally, regardless of how we interact with our parents. My parents had NOTHING to do with whether I'm a lesbian. That's genetics.

I know I'm late to this, but I just wanted to give my two cents. In regards to which is more common "Mommy Issues," or "Daddy Issues": First of all, I don't particularly like these terms, as I think they're very reductive of very real and deep trauma. That said, I think "Daddy Issues" are more common because , by and large, men are expected to do A LOT less emotional labor than women. A woman has to do quite a lot to be considered a "good mother." In comparison to men, who are expected to do very little in regards to caring for their child's needs, outside of roof over head, breadwinning stuff. Because of this, I think overall "Daddy Issues" are far more common.

I love the videos you two make. And no worries about shipping you two here that is just weird. I especially like when you two talk about labels. Personally they drive me insane and I hate using them. There are way too many and more everyday. I know some people like them and need them to feel like they fit in or belong someplace. No judgement here. For me I use three to describe myself lesbian, gentlewoman and hopeless romantic other than that I am just Tinne. We are all unique in our own ways so just do you and not worry about labels. Alayna would probably say I am a Demisexual and Demiromantic which I had to look up. As long as it is not toxic people can call me whatever they want. Labels usually make others feel comfortable because they do not define me. The shaving topic was great! I personally shave only my head once a year. I have never in my life shaved my pubic area. I use to shave my legs and armpits then I stopped. My body knows what it is doing and it is there for a reason why mess with it? Nature has it’s own ecosystem for balance and health so does the human body! But I respect what others want to do because as you both said it is a personal choice!

I don't think anyone is interested in reading this but i'm just gonna write it down anyway. So, I was watching the video and when i came to the part where they were talking about climbing it reminded me of something. (I am a lesbian but i'm scared of highs so i don't climb and my friends know that I like girls) One day, my friends and I were walking and they wanted to do sport and they proposed climing so I told them I couldn't. But then, they looked at me and said "but aren't you a lesbian tho ?" and even though I know a lot of lesbian woman blimb it surprised me how they seemed shocked by the fact I don't climb.
