Yes, Weddings were always a Saturday event and mostly ladies would wait outside churches to see Bride. They did not know her but that did not stop them from regularly buying confetti with other shopping. Likewise, when woman had new baby ladies would stroke baby hand in pram and empty their purses of any silver coins they had in their purses. That was tradition in London where I lived. I remember my Mother receiving coins when she went shopping with my new sister.

Hello Tina, what a lovely video, listening to all your memories and reminiscences. So nice to watch all the other Trans Atlantic Housewives videos too. As all of you said , life was simpler then and people didn't have as much money. It was part of getting married, that probably a friend or relative would do the photos, a family member would make the wedding cake or arrange the bouquets and make the dresses. Or even wear the dress that your Mum wore , with some alterations ! Or hiring suits and dresses ! There was a famous outfitters in Leeds, their name escapes me ! It was so funny listening to your memories from your wedding about your Great Aunt , leaving the room at your reception and mistakenly joining another wedding party's reception and wondering why she didn't know anyone !😂 Your wonderful Mum, being widowed so young and having to work so hard to raise you and your brother. . Could hear the love and appreciation in your voice for her. My Mam was called Ethel too, after her Grandma & also didn't care for her name ! ! It is sad that your husband passed so young and cannot still share your memories. Listening to Maria and Maree, they are so lucky to have been truly loved for so many years. Sadly only a few people experience that . I married in 1982 but am a statistic of chosing the wrong person and divorce !!! Thank you for your memories Tina x Janette

I got married in 1971 and like you I had long hair and my Nanna put my hair in rags too even though she wasn’t really that well I sat on the floor while she did my hair and it lasted a week. I did have a hen night with a few friends in the local pub. My dress and bridesmaid dresses were similar style to yours too. You can tell a great story 😂😂 💕

Hi Tina. So many lovely memories. My birthday is on the 29th April. I didn't know that about Hitler. I always remember Prince William and Kate's wedding as that is the 29th April. So many traditions gone now. We used to have a bottom drawer. Loved buying things to put away. Thank you for sharing your wedding story xx

I also remember a man who had a monkey. He was a Photographer and would wait at shops with monkey to photograph with new babies in their prams. He was popular and did good business with Mothers

Hi Tina. I loved that video. Your videos are so good I love your funny stories you make me laugh and you’re such a genuine lovely lady. I love seeing wedding photos and you and your husband looked a lovely couple. Your hair was so long and looks dark but maybe it was just the photos. Your stories reminded me of my wedding in the 80s and how hard it was doing the seating arrangements especially with people who didn’t speak to others 😂 it was a nightmare. When my daughter got married 7 years ago it was so different as her and her husband picked people they wanted to go not like in our day when you had to have people you didn’t hardly know 😂😂 although even they had a few issues with table planning as I’m divorced so was a bit awkward as ex husband doesn’t speak to me since he remarried but before she came on the scene we had a good friendship even though we were divorced. I’ve 2 more daughters and dread their wedding days 😂. Oh the joys 😂. Thank you for making me laugh Tina. Love your videos. Have a lovely Sunday ❤️💕💕💕😊

Hi Tina, really enjoyed that, I got married in June 1974 so we’ve just celebrated our Golden Wedding and can relate to a lot of what you said. I didn’t have a hen party although my husband has a stag night!! I always remember the cake which was 3 tiers of fruit cake with royal icing that was so hard we nearly broke the knife when we tried to cut it!!

Really enjoyed this video , I married in 1967 so can relate to much of it. I like to look back on my photo album , mainly with happiness but also find it sad, like you I lost my husband when he was 64. Loved the story of the aunty who gate crashed the wrong reception. Happy days.

What lovely memories of such a beautiful wedding day Tina. You looked amazing. The rag curles bought back memories to me, my mum always done our hair this way when we attended special occasions, my sister and I had waist length hair, I can remember how uncomfortable they were to sleep in. Such a shame your dear husband passed at a very young age, hold all.of your memories close to your heart always. Such a lovely video. Thank you for sharing your wonderful wedding day. Lovely memories Tina. I was married in 1964, but the fashions seemed the same. My 'hen party' was with three friends in a pub near where I lived. I was laughing when you said you had to be careful where people were sitting at the reception as we had the same problem with our friends and relatives. We went to Blackpool for our honeymoon staying at the Dorchester. Don't think it is there anymore. Thank you for the lovely memories. Xx

Ah Tina how lovely to share your wedding memories, i was married in 1969,i remember the prices of the park cafe that was doing our wedding meal prices ranged from 7/6 pence to 12/ 6 pence, even your wedding photos were similar, you seem to have had a happy marriage , thank you so much 😊❤

Tina, it was so lovely to hear about your wedding. I got married in 1974 and so many similarities to yours. Colour photography hadn’t quite come in and our photos were black and white. The group photo fashions look just like mine too. Also I remember the travel company you mentioned and my husband remembers a holiday we had in the late 70’s to Menorca that cost £47 with a company called Flair 😂

I was married in 1971 and didn’t have a hen party. I don’t think I knew anything about such events! My husband ha a stag do the week before we got married. We had to wait for the rugby season to finish before we got married or risk the possibility of John racing out of church to play a match! XxLiz

Hi Tina, well that was a trip down memory lane! It will have brought both happy and sad thoughts to you. I got married in September 1968 so can relate very much to remarks you made. I had top hat etc also. I can remember having my hair done the day before (I got married on a Friday at 12 noon). There were stag dos but very few hen type outings. I don’t know when the term came in. In those days guests tied tin cans and other items to the car as we were leaving the reception. We had to go to Gatwick airport to fly to Majorca later that evening. We stayed at the Don Juan Hotel in Cala Millor - quite appropriately named as it became clear later! Seven years on I was a divorcee! Amazing how time allows you to be able to smile at events that at the time seems like the end of the world! C’est la vie!

I married the month before you Tina Saturday March 19th 1972. I was 19 husband was 21, we had met 2 years before. My album is exactly like yours, black & white photos even the bridesmaids dresses looked like yours. I had a lace hood on my wedding dress which was trendy back then. Happy days, nice to look back on.x
