I have a bad game story... I’m at a Games Workshop, sitting and painting my fledgling Salamanders army. This is back in 7th edition. I have barely 1,000 points, most of which is based on starter boxes, so not competitive at all. Guy walks up, asks if I want a game. My back was starting to hurt from painting so I said sure why not. But bear with me because I’m new. He chuckled (first red flag) and asked if I could do 2000 points. When he hears that I only have 1k he scoffs and says something along the lines of “get up to the level that the real men play at” (red flag #2). Whatever. I tell him that I’m going to go get the rest of my minis out of the car, he says great I’ll start setting up terrain. I get back to the table and I start taking my stuff out of the shoeboxes they were in. I have I think 3-4 squads of tactical marines, a landspeeder, a dreadnought, and maybe a few other things. He takes out his super nice foam case and sets down 2 Imperial Knights on his side... I do the math and there are only like 4-5 models in my entire army that can actually hurt those things. To make matters worse, there is almost no line of sight blocking terrain. Coincidence? The game goes exactly as you’d imagine. To make things worse, as we’re playing he’s lecturing me on my poor choices with army composition (even though I’m playing with nearly all the models I own) and at one point he even told me that Salamanders were a dumb choice. I called it after turn 2. I wanted to sit down and paint, and get that game out of my system, but as soon as I do That Guy slides up a stool next to me and continues giving me “advice” on how I should make my army more competitive. I lasted about 10 minutes before packing up and leaving. Don’t be That Guy!

Ah yeah, I've got a similar story only I'm in the south so he kept calling me "sonny boy" like he's my grandpa. Dude was mid-thirties I was twenty at the time. Was playing Admech when they first came out so I didn't even have that many models to select from.
@masterjmp13 жыл бұрын
My "first game" the guy took a meme tyranid list that was literally three models at 1k points against my orks to kinda show me the ropes. My first ACTUAL game was against this, like, fifteen year old kid who was playing Tau. We both killed almost all of each other's models, but I had a single Grot and my Weirdboy on objectives, in cover, while he had a single model out of cover maybe on an objective. Ended up winning the game by the skin of my teeth (in ork fashion). I havent seen him much since then but I hope that he's doing well and at least trying to kick some butt!

I used to play with “That Guy” every week. We were a small community with only a few wargamers in a mostly card shop flgs. We constantly tried to get new players with a wider variety of armies to play with, and I was 16-17 and desperate to play as often as I could. Being a kid in store like that, you constantly get picked on and looked down on if you show a lot of excitement or energy and get labeled as immature, even if the same things are done by the older gamers. Play space was limited, and when a table freed up, you grabbed who ever to try and get a game in that week. This guy was routinely free(surprise) and would be the guy I’d have to play if I wanted table space. He was the worst- space wolf player, loud, aggressive, overly reactive. When he lost a model, he’d toss them. When he was losing he was known to throw them across the floor. I had pretty poor self confidence, felt I had no support if I was try and get help from the others, and honestly the experience pretty much bordered on bullying looking back 10years or so. I try to be especially kind to the younger gamers now, just because I remember the experience. Don’t be “That Guy” who picks on kids. Even teens pick up on successful personalities- be positive.

I once had a really bad incident at a games workshop where i knew that once my marines got out of a rhino they were able to move and act normally after. A couple of people didnt believe me and brought the manager over who didnt believe me either. After about 10 minutes of going back and forth i asked if we could check the rule book to see who is correct. Just after i asked the manager shouted back at me "no you cant look at the rule book" and after another couple of minutes the manager looked at the rule book and only HE was allowed to look at it. After realising he was wrong he allowed me to move my marines but was really awkward and staired at me for the rest of that day. Never went back to that store

Was in a similar situation like Mark with Dark Eldar, brand new to the game in 5th (I think?), and wanting to play because the army was cool to me. Evil space elves with jetbikes! I wound up playing someone who was well known to the community in my area for being a power gamer, but I didn't know any better since my experience so far came from just playing with my small circle of friends who were likewise green to the game. Long story short, played him, did far better than I thought I would! Killed a decent share of his Orks and vehicles, but ... man, he didn't like the fact that he had to try against someone that wasn't on 'his level'. Made a big show of shitting on my painting, how I put together my models, basically doing anything and everything possible to take away from the fact that he almost lost by dumping on my attempt to paint and assemble my first collection and shame me out of having had a good time. Never forgot that, even all these years later. I just recently got back into 40k (and now AOS) about a year and a half ago, and go out of my way to make sure the folks learning to paint either online or in my area know that any attempt to paint and be creative is a success and should be valued.

So in one of those rounds there were only 5 minutes to go and we were tied, the rest of the people had already finished and they were watching us until one of those who was watching began to make a lot of negative comments towards us and especially towards me for being the only woman playing so I ask him to shut up and leave because he was being very disrespectfull. What bothered me most was that none of his friends said anything to him for making such comments, they just laughed and left

I started playing when I was 11 during rogue trader in 1992. I’ve seen this hobby go up and down and quit/sold my minis for long stretches. My worst story is meeting some wh40k players in a big hobby store in CA. I just casually watched them play for a bit and said what’s up before going to look at minis in the store. Later one of the guys came up to me and told me I “broke his concentration” and blamed me in a non joking passive aggressive way for losing. I am not kidding when I say those were his words verbatim. I laughed it off at the time and the guy went off in a corner to sulk with his owner friend of the store. I never went back to that store and quit warhammer for another few years after a series of random encounters with douchey wh40k players. I hate dealing with stunted man children and unfortunately this hobby attracts a lot.

As my worst experience (for now) it happend on my first game of 40k, well- technically second. I'm gonna explain. So, we all know what's happening with Covid, and i live in Italy so yeah even worse. I ordered my 40k list during Christmas, and even now they have yet to arrive (thanks Germany for blocking my orders :D), and i was gettin impatient to at least try the list i builded (which is a pretty funny list, not really competitive) of Grey knights. I decided to buy Tabletop simulator cause i couldnt wait any longer, downloaded the assets from the biggest discord server i could find and tried finding a game. I met this dude, which seemed super chill, and setted up the game and everything. We started playing, and he was playing a very vehicle heavy list. Turns out i killed his biggest units (pretty luckily tbh) during turn two and he got kinda salty saying stuff like "Oh yeah i cant win anymore, too bad, i'm gonna surrender" and so he did. He then said "Wanna play another game? I'll play another list" and he played an Adeptus+Knights army that was pratically unkillable for my stuff. In the first turn he almost halfed my army, and he was like "Yeah my knights so good", like he played that game just to win and prove that he was better or something like that ig. I didnt really care cause i was just happy to be playing 40k, but really looking back into it, that was kinda salty. Other than him and some really competitive players (which were fine, just not very good to play against on my first games) they were all pretty good. Also, a last question for all of you: is there a chance to see Grey knights on the channel? I'd love to! Love your battle reports and videos, i cant get enough of them! And thanks (or maybe that was a curse) to all of you for getting me into this hobby, which i love!

Hey man... you don't get to shit on the german postal service as an Italian. Do you know what fucking horrors I have to go through if I accidentally order magiccards from an italian seller? Those can be send via letter! And your smoothbrained postal service manages to take 4-6 weeks! WEEKS! well because at first it has to be sorted, then send to rome, sorted again, lost a couple of times, found again, sorted again, send back to rome for more sorting and then, finally I maybe get my letter. Also the only times orders did not arrive was on italian cards... I've blacklisted italian sellers now on cardmarket... it's insane.

We both laughed, joked and had a really close game. Going into our 4th game turn we noticed we had over an hour remaining so we decided to go have a beer break. Talked about how we thought the game was going to play out. Got back to finish our game. I think I lost? This is one of my favourite games of Warhammer and I remember it fondly. I recently lost to a guy who unintentionally took a Secondary that he could not have taken, and he misplayed a rule. On top of that I lost. I stayed cool because i asked myself, A. Did he cheat maliciously? B. Did he misplay intentionally or was he new? The answer was no to both questions, and he is relatively new. Asking yourself these sorts of questions during a game can really help.

I've been fortunate in 40k to never really come across a that guy mostly because I only play with a small group of friends. Although one of my friends did have some that guy tendencies when he started out, as he gravitated towards playing very meta heavy (started with nids, then pivoted to ultramarines when he found out we wouldn't let him use his weighted dice for every game). I remember one game in 8th we had agreed to a friendly game, I had showed him my list before which was basically just a speed freeks mob with a morkanaut centerpiece, and I was also happy to bring along my battlewagon which I had spent all weekend painting. He brought along an ultramarines castle which he had tried to tailor to beat my list (he also never showed me what he was bringing until we literally got it on the table, also this was in 8th post 2.0 codex and supplements). After he got first turn he tried to shoot the battlewagon off the board, which was a dick move imo because there were much higher priority targets (like the morkanaut) as the battlewagon was literally just filled with gretchin. Most of the game was very boring since it was the equivalent of playing against a brick wall that shoots at you, he also abused terrain rules (counted a squad as being in cover because 1mm of terrain clipped one of their bases) but ironically for him he still lost as he couldn't wipe me out before turn 4 so by turn 5 I controlled all but his home objective. He also had the tendency to abuse sportsmanship, like if he forgot to use a psychic power I would let him go back and do it, but he wouldn't do the same for me. Luckily as he's played more games and started painting his minis he's realized that winning isn't everything and he's toned down on these aspects. My worst that guy stories come from playing in a store escalation league of age of sigmar. There was one guy who showed up with ossiarch bonereapers when they were the new hotness, I went up against him and told him it was basically my second ever AoS game, but I had played 40k before so I knew the basics pretty much. He proceeded to wipe the floor with me, rather than give me advice during the match that could have actually effected the outcome by only telling me after. He also baited me out of using my despells by leaving out his endless spells (like a mix between a psychic power and a summoned unit) which he only told me after weren't even part of his list. Then another game I had was against a guy who was in his 70's, and I had thought up until that point was a pretty cool guy, but he complained heavily whenever he rolled bad and I rolled good. He even nearly accused me of cheating because I had gotten lucky and had rolled 11 and 12 on two different spells. He congratulated me when I won, but also made it very clear that it was nothing I did that made it happen and it was purely because I had gotten a double turn.

When I was a kid I would go to the local GW every Saturday with my dad and older bro. I was quite young so basically my dad played with me but he mainly made sure I was playing by the rules. I remember two games specifically that involved two salty players Both Marine players One space wolf and one dark angels player. I fielded a Chaos undivided army. The game with space wolves the guy if I remember correctly was pissed of that I fielded a lot of predator tanks and started to argue that we were over the points (It was a high points game cant remember exactly) but we were not ,my army list was done by my dad and he is good at maths The game involving the Dark angels player is a lot more clearer Once again it was a high point game. But more specifically that game I was using Cypher and his fallen If I remember correctly there was rule that meant dark angels had to focus him . I placed him behind EVERYTHING in front of him was definitely bezerkers and ready to fuck up his backline when they engaged was Chaos terminators There was a lot more tho. But the guy was so pissed he then tried to ignore the rules that his dark angels had to focus Cypher. He was even more pissed of because he lost Luckily if anyone started shit my dad was there to back me up. He was ex military police, he worked for Group 4 after the army working in some of the UKs most dangerous prisons and he is a big man trained in several ways to take you down quickly and effectively that and my dad IS great at making friends and he quickly became friends with the manager at the time . I say these were bad games but I do not really remember the salt , I remember them getting pissy but I did not really understand at the time . Talking to my dad and remembering these times I now understand that my dad really did a great job at making sure I had the greatest time possible while we were there

I've loved the tier lists and the deeper dives from the army reveals, but would you ever plan to go into different directions armies can be built? It hasn't really been touched on in the tier lists or similar vids, but you could go a few different ways for an Ork army, for example (bike/buggy heavy, walkers, green tide, etc). Maybe a sort of hashing out with multiple people's favorite ways to play an army?

One of my worst games of 40k was in the first weeks of 8th edition, I was a brand new player using the death guard from dark imperium as my army. If you guys don't know, that starter list is not particularly strong. So as one of my very first games ever, someone brought an all flyer Stormraven list against me, which was extremely meta at the time and proceeded to table me damn near instantly. Pretty that guy move to bring a list like that against a brand new player with a starter set list.

First tournament ever, second edition. Space Wolves vs Chaos. I played a wysiwyg army, my opponent had 3 correct models, everything else was a proxy, and none of this was communicated to me until I started to shoot at them. The Goff orks (Sluģa and Choppa) were Heavy Weapons. The Khorn Berserkers were represented by Long Fangs (Space Wolves heavy weapons troops) etc. Flip side the funniest moment was in the same game. In that edition terminators made their save on 3+ with 2d6 added together, and when you roll 3 jams on the sustained fire dice the model is totally removed...forgot about the jam rule, only to be downed in the next round by a laspistol...

Haven't done any warhammer, but definitely had a lot of "that-guy" type of things happen in a dnd 5e discord server I used to be in. Biggest one I can remember was a group of people who used a combination of a war elephant mount and the mounted combatant feat, which lets you take a hit instead of your mount, to argue that they could not be hit by melee. The logic was that they A. Cannot hit your mount, since you redirect it and B. Cannot hit you, since you're on a war elephant and out of range which meant that technically, rules as written, the attack just can't do anything, and there were a good bit of new dm's not really sure what to do about it and not wanting to dm because of it. The more experienced dm's started using traps and tight corridors to counter the elephants, which annoyed the people using them and causing arguments to happen. It eventually escalated into the server fully banning non-horse mounts, which caused most of the that-guy mob to start being belligerent to the server mods, the dms, and all the players that were also sick of their shiz.

When I was learning I was getting so pissed that no matter what army I built this one guy beat the shit out of my list, and turns out since I talked up my list like the week before he custom built armies to beat me and never said he did anything wrong but pointed out any error I did.... He was hard core thousand sons and craftworld player while I was trying to play grey knights and space wolves cause I liked the looks

Aha classic thousand suns/space wolves rivalry. I would find it hilarious if you were playing space wolves and he decided to play hard and tailor with thousand sons in order to get revenge for prospero. Hope your games are more fun nowadays
@somedude54653 жыл бұрын
This is exactly why you DON'T talk up your lists. Especially if you plan on playing in a store or a tournament. Someone WILL be listening and remembering and WILL want to try and *seemingly* curb stomp you every time. Keep your list to yourself, just describe how you play.
@trzynasty9093 жыл бұрын
When you get around to the beginner lists remember that variety is fun! Painting the same unit two, three, four times gets kinda dull, but having other options and also learning how they play is pretty nice. So just keep in mind that newbs won't know what they'd like to spam yet, so give them options!

I only just started to get into 40k Properly within the last couple years, thought for the first year I had no idea anyone but me and my brother were into it so it was kinda lonely and I started to feel like there wasnt really a future for us in it. Than at the start of 202 we learned there was a game store with a HUGE gaming room just a couple towns over. We were hyped but before we could go do anything the pandemic struck and the game room has been closed down ever since. Thers plans I heard of it reopening in the Summer and I was looking forward to getting in, meeting some cool people, and learning to play the game. But tbh after hearing alotta the stories I am a little worried. I have alot of social confidence problems due to things that have happened in my life..and knowing my luck I feel like Im bound to run into these guys. And Im scared that itll ruin something ive come to be so interested in..especially since those are rare for me to come by these days..

Question, cause I'm new to 40k and I suck, could you guys do more tutorial-based videos on playing. What I mean, I guess, is how to use cover, charging, and other stuff that I'm forgetting cause I'm new. Also a fun story for you to maybe make you laugh. The first game of 40k I played was Chaos marines (TEAM KHORNE) my buddy was Necrons and I wiped 3 squads off the board, so he then proceeded to do reactivation protocol and in the end i only killed 3 models in that turn cause lady luck was not on my side. Keep up the great work guys love the videos and I'm looking forward to seeing Team Khorne on the table for a live stream.

So the first tourney I went to was a 30 man local tourney and I'm still kinda new to the game, I've played a couple matches with some buddies to get a feel of some of the basics on how I play and keep in mind this was around the end of 8th edition (I think) and so I'm there as literally the only Ork player there and ready to play with my favorite unit, The Stompa. First match I go up against a Druhkari. Not too bad, this girl was super chill, helped me with some mistakes I made and was super happy I had such positive energy going into it. Close match but I pulled a win barely. Now the second match was against a guy who had a history of being toxic to Xeno players. He played Blood Angels so y'know I just thought he was into it lore wise. Oh no, he was worse then that. We don't even get to the roll off and he just starts messing with my pieces (not breaking them thank god) and eventually he gets to my Stompa and starts Belittling me as not only an Ork player, but he literally for like 15 mins, I'm sitting there just letting him talk cause at first it seemed like trash talk but oh no, it was worse. He started telling me that he'd loan me a shotgun to blow the Stompa up, he'd offer to football punt it after the tourney, you get the idea and that's when I'm just sitting there like "...This dude's a damn psycho." We play, of course he eventually gets my Stompa and just starts getting in my face, saying "Awww baby gonna fuckin cry about ya toy?" and sayin shit like that with one of the Tourney Officials standing there, and I just look at him and go, "Dude chill I'm playin for fun, and I know the Stompa sucks as a unit yeah, but y'know what the golden rule of Ork players is ya can't be a Salty Ork player. I'm literally doing full gun line and I'm having a blast." Long story short, I think this guy was just mad I had my Stompa turn one with it's Deffkannon and Supa-Rokkits take out his Sanguinor, a squad of intercessors, and half a squad of Comat Knife Scouts. Either way, I had a fun time and I'm hoping I can continue to have fun with my big boy Stompa cause damn it I love this thing!

Second game of my first tournament in 8th. Vs a Grey Knight player with 2 Grandmasters in Dreadknights, and Draigo (yep, one of those lists). I say "oh hey, just got back in the hobby, and first tourney, so please be patient". He seemed super nice so was looking forward to the game. Suddenly he starts nit-picking all these rules, spamming psychic powers, clearing cards, saying he achieved objectives (I know nothing about grey knights, so i just smiled and let him do his thing). All of a sudden, Im down by like 80 points, and its Turn 2. I realise that this guy was pulling a fast one, because he was speaking fast, moving fast, making sure I couldn't get a word in sideways. Then he targets my ancient. Now my entire ancient is behind LOS blocking terrain, and all that is sticking out is his banner. He says "I can target him because I can see the banner" and I was certain there was an FAQ that you could only target them if you saw 50% or torso of the main body. So I challenge it. He gets SUPER aggressive. So I pick up my model, snap off the banner, and place it back, saying he could no longer target it, because he can't see the model (was one of my best painted models as well, but I'm petty). He takes it on the chin, game continues and I've lost all love for that match. Then at the end, I shake his hand and say GG (before the Covid Times) and he just goes "Thanks for doing poorly, I should have enough to be back on the top tables now". Very almost did some things I would not have been proud of to him after that comment, but just reported him to the ref

Absolutely love hearing you two just hang out and talk. One question I'd have is to see if you two could cover Black Templars similar to the "Starting Space Marines" video format since they weren't mentioned. (Lore, models to get or use, how they rank currently) Additionally, what are your thoughts on custom paint schemed armies and the rules behind them? New players like myself may love a particular chapter or sub-group but paint wildly different.

I had just come back to the hobby when Indom dropped and my local store was still running some tournaments before everything shut down. I was able to get all of the necron halves of 2 indom boxes assembled and painted, but not based. I thought I would take a risk with one of my friends and could potentially play a game with the new army that I hadn't played before. We let everyone know and we played a game with someone who was apparently a "regular" at the store that I had never seen before. I ended up winning by one point. Apparently 2 10-warrior and 1 20 warrior blob is OP. The guy and a couple of his friends approached me and my friend at my car trying to convince me that I had lost the game even though we had agreed before that the fully painted and based rule wouldn't be counted. I'm a pretty big guy and so is my friend, but we didn't want to make a scene at a store that we love. Apparently to these 3 people an "okay, then you won" wasn't enough. We had to walk back into the store for the guys to leave us alone and the store owner had to kick them out and tell them to "F*** off". I haven't played a single game against someone that I don't know personally since. I don't have enough time to play enough games learn all of the ins and outs of my army.

We had a guy when I joined an escalation league who would get extremely into character, specifically a commissar. He was a full on rules lawyer and would constantly try to catch people on rules specifically to get ahead in the league. He got to the point where no one wanted to play matches with him, and he posted in our Facebook group asking for feedback on why people didn't care to play matches against him. Thankfully he took the criticism well, but we were all worried he'd be a full on hot head because of how "in character" he'd get. We also had a guy who was notorious for complaining about how underpowered his lists were when he was actively playing bad lists. That was hilarious to see but the way he'd lash out at people because of how often he lost made it feel super unwelcoming. Finally, I had a match with a person who was constantly belittling my army list that I used for 7th edition necrons. I ran monoliths and an obelisk, and he constantly poked fun at me because I was "so damn bad at the game" (I was only a couple games into really learning 7th at the time.) He was so obnoxious, I actually stopped playing in 7th and waited until 8th came out to start fresh with a new edition and hopefully that individual was gone. He wasn't. He kept coming to game days and was also in the escalation league. But he finally calmed down after I confronted him about how toxic he was being. (The store staff also had several talks with him and threatened to kick him out). That's my list of stories. Hope you enjoy :p

I'm ao glad the folks at my local shop are really cool. I played with a coworker and his son as well as a few regulars and everyone understood that I was new. Though at the time the manager was very protective of newbies or younger fans so the older neckbeards were kept in check and were chill.

I don't have a horror story to share, but truthfully, I'd love for this to become a weekly even instead of a fortnightly (I'M USING IT ANYWAYS FITE ME) one. These are great to listen to while I paint, always give me a good chuckle when you go on your story tangents. I see you guys have a TON to share, and not a lot of time to do it. Maybe you could record a much larger and longer podcast one a fortnightly basis, and then do snippets of that larger show spread out over the 2 week periods? Just my 2 cents, I'm sure Matt won't let you do it, because he's a big weenie

Not a Warhammer story, but definitely the same vibes as the one Marky told. In middle school I played in a high school chess tournament and beat a guy in like 7 moves, which if you don't know is a super rare occurrence and means you fucked up really badly. Like imagine you play a 40k game and the only points you get are your battle-ready points and a few secondaries and primaries., opponent gets a perfect score or something, game is basically done on turn 2. This high school kid who just lost to a 7th grader I swear cried and swore quietly as we sat there for like 5 minutes, him staring angrily at the board and me looking around awkwardly until we finally shook hands and marked the game down.

I’ve only been playing garage games for my entire career. So luckily I haven’t had to deal with it that much. I had one experience where my buddy put his scions on the field. Within 9” of my hell blasters and they got shot off the board and his response was to grab them and throw them on the ground. I confronted him and was told him that it wasn’t cool and made me feel bad for making a good choice. He got defensive and said he was doing it for speed sake..... for very many reasons beyond that one, we are not friends.

I remember a 2nd edition game, when it was a 1vs1vs1. The other 2 were brothers; we came up with lists to then play. We had to have a few proxy's, and one brother (A) proxy'd some models that were smaller than the should (there wasn't anything malicious in it). First turn kicks off, and brother A can draw a line of sight with this proxy'd unit to brother B's warlord and nothing else. A round of shooting happens and the warlord loses a few wounds. Brother B starts to get annoyed, and says he wouldn't have set things up had the unit been more obvious. They then get in to a massive argument at which point Brother B hits Brother A as hard as he can in the face, at which point they kick off with each other (brother A was probably 17 and brother B was about 15). Game ended. Next day I saw both brothers, and they had 2 massive black eyes, that neither could open. Brother B was generally awful to play against; a lot of rules would crop up that just weren't true. Generally a pretty poor loser.

Started "playing" back in late 6th and early 7th, mainly was collecting and then actually played in 8th. Well back in highschool I would work on minis while hanging with friends at our local card and games shop. Along comes one of the guys from the store's warhammer group, says he'll teach me and let me borrow his core book for the game. Schedule a date and show up a week later with 1000pts of CSM. Nothing impressive mostly infantry and dark vengeance box models. I get creamed handily as he gives me advice and stuff. Jump forward 2 weeks and a few guys from the club join me and my friends for a few commander games. They ask about my game and I start talking about it, my mistakes, and some of the things that happened. Slowly I can tell they're getting confused from the looks on their faces. Then they tell me about how the guy I played constantly loses due to getting tabled i.e. killing the distraction carnifex before the real threat and getting wiped. Remember my hellbrute and chaos lord getting tunneled with fire. They then tell me that this guy didn't correct me, he was telling me incorrect information to win against a noob. Worst offence was making up rules about his army when I didn't know it. Luckily he was banned and forbidden from the warhammer group for that last straw of dick behavior. Lots of good memories there but the shop shut down last December due to the plague.

Similar to "fresh model syndrome" I had my first game using the Elites rules for Kill Team, and I was trying Reserves for the first time. It was definitely a "ooooo shiny" moment, because I realize during the third turn that I severely messed up with my Reserves and that two of my Lictors would be gone by the end of the turn. It was embarrassing but I ended up laughing it off. Probably a good thing I was playing against my brother as well.

I haven't encountered any That Guys yet since I play at home with my friends (though one kinda refused to learn the game right and constantly cheats via ignorance (building an entire squad of rail rifle pathfinders because he thought he could mix models from different units together... for some reason)) and Covid makes going to game shops impossible right now. But, I do have a great "New Model Syndrome" story. I was playing the Babylon 5 fleet combat game with a friend who was introducing me to it. I played a couple of Drazi ships (forward firing ships) and we was playing the grey alien faction (I forget their name) and he had a brand new painted up capital ship for their faction (I cant remember if the ship was called the Zeetak or if that was the alien race name, its been a good 15 years). Well, turn one I take a max range shot at the Zeetak and I golden BB the ship. I hit it for minimal damage, but managed to get a critical hit and take out a vital component that made the ship shut down for the rest of the game.

This might get lost in the tendrils of time but meh, I can't sleep and loadshedding is 40 min away (if you know what that is what's up) so here goes my little tale anyway. My friends got into 40 back when I was in college 10 or so years ago. Didn't have any money at the time so I just had to listen to them talk a out lore and argue about rules. Fast forward three years finally got money to buy a second hand Space wolf army but, too little too late my friends stopped playing. Sad wolf noises.Mp3. So they told me to go to the mini wargaming club they were appart of. Off the little wolf pup goes into his journey into 40k. As I got to know the club members I Played about 2/3 games against some pretty cool guys, though this is alright! Yeah I'm having fun. And then a faithful day my dear reader, changed my outlook on this hobby. I met him. I asked for a game and he was the one who accepted. We met, placed our models on the tables. We start playing and the single must hateful game I have had the privilege to be a part off. My ass + silver platter = served. After he won he told me he was playing his tournament list and had to test it out. So my brain fresh from the reelibg of the sheer savagery beating of my anus dialed in and went "You went super try hard on someone, who has only played 4 game ever and you look rather smug about it, I say good day sir. I say good day. That experience, while not as bad maybe for some, left a very sour taste in my mouth, the kind your are too ashamed to talk to your mom about but should rather go speak to your doctor about it. That kinda taste. So I gave up my wolves and hang up my coat and decided to play Infinity instead. But dear reader, this is not the last time I would have an encounte with this very same soul. If you made it this far I'd maybe share some more. If I'm awake... And if my power is still on.....

So im a nid player in a 1000 point game. in turn one i push my 20 man group of geanstealers up the board and wiped a 5 man group of SM. consolidated them into CC with another 5 man group and used a strat to attack twice. This wiped the second squad. one of my best friends and the one teaching me go so heated and pissed at me for doing it to him that we had to ask the shop we where at if i was able to do it in the rules. I was still learning (and still am) at that point and it was one of the first times playing my army. he was running dark angels so he still won. As he got heated it made me want to pack up my stuff and drive home(45 min) and not even finish the game. after this intendent we talked and found a way to prevent this from happening again. What we have to do it talk ahead of time and say what kind of game we are both wanting( now do this with everyone before i build my list). TLDR: Great friend got pissed because I pulled a feels bad move and made me want to call the game and leave.

Always remember the type of people that deep nerdy games like this attract. Hosts like these are the exception, not the rule. Not understanding basic human interaction, lack of empathy or ability to control their emotion like an adult, losers that have nothing else good in their life so they take 40k waaay too seriously, poke your head in to any game store and like 7/10 people are bad times. Honestly the hardest part of the game is cultivating a good group to play with.
