I absolutely hate the fact that EVERYTHING nowadays has to be a subscription service and it makes me way less likely to purchase a device like this. Do they seriously want to tell me that 400 dollars per ring is not enough to finance their app? Ridiculous. If there's one thing people don't need in their lives right now, it's more subscriptions. Facts.
@RubiixCat
@RubiixCat 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah. Total cost of the ring over its lifetime is probably about $436.77 - $508.65. I don't know if the gen 3 is worth $137.77 - $209.65 more than the gen 2, but to me that seems pretty damn steep - especially knowing it'll only realistically last you 2 (maybe 3, if you're lucky) years. It might be worth it for some though. It does seem to be the most accurate + least intrusive sleep tracker on the market right now.

I've worked in tech, and we sold a product without subscription for most my time there. And trust mr the stress that results from it is pretty intense. When you think about it you're not buying a static product like you use, these things keep evolving, being updated and even maintaining an app is a ton of work. Selling a product without subscription rarely covers those costs.

If you have to update the app for what ever reason, was the program ready for release? Bugs will be found after release, but 90% of bugs should be discovered before release. If your updating constantly, just add those updates to the next physical release.

Hey Noah, we appreciate your feedback! We are happy to hear that you don't wear your Oura ring while lifting weights as that will inevitably cause damage or create scratches on the outer layer. Hey OURA - you charged me even though I'm supposed to have a FREE LIFETIME membership. You bullied me into upgrading, and forking out another $250-300 when I didn't need a new ring. You suddenly required me to provide payment information in order to keep my LIFETIME FREE membership, which I refused to provide so you HID my data. So fine, I bent over and gave you my payment information and you *promised* you would never charge me a subscription fee and then BAM, there it is on my credit card, the day I gave it to you. Your customer service has been unhelpful for months. You lied about all of the fancy things this new Gen3 ring would do. My ring still says I'm sleeping when I'm not (the old one did not do that), the daytime heart rate tracking completely misses my multiple cardio and strength workouts throughout the week, the period tracking is completely inaccurate, and now you are STEALING money from me when you promised you wouldn't. How is it that a company so elegantly futuristic with their tech can't handle simple things like making sure an "early adopter" who was promised a free membership doesn't get charged. Why would you need my payment information, anyway? I have been back and forth with your customer service for months and now you're literally stealing my money unauthorized. Look, I was happy to be patient and wait for your ring to do what it was promised...but this is unacceptable. How can anyone get customer care with you????

I’m sure also, you can start and stop the subscription as needed. Say for example, once you are familiar with the approx insig HR s associated with the scores, you can stop the subscription for a while if you are doing well with maintaining good scores. Then if you need to recalibrate, turn the subscription back on for the details to make improvements. Just a thought.

Total bait and switch. My wife bought one and it was great. She buys me the new one (Gen 3) for $350, 6 months later they shut off access to all the data and want $6/month for the rest of my life to get access to it. That’s crazy! Generation 1 & 2 didn’t do that. Anyone who bought those first two models don’t have to pay anything. We asked them for our money back, this is absurd.

I have had the Oura ring for almost a year and it is extremely accurate. My ring also warned me of my temp being higher than normal and I did have COVID . I don’t begrudge them going to a subscription model. It’s either this or each generation costing considerably more than the last or they aren’t able to make updates. I definitely love mine. The subscription is definitely a point against the ring but the positives far outweigh this negative.

I can understand the reason for subscription for smart watches because of their capability and usage. I have been sleeping for around 3 - 6 hours a night for as long as I can remember now, it's taking a huge toll. I've tried everything I can think of and I am desperate for consistent good sleep. Even then, I'm not sure I can justify £350 on something that solely tracks sleep. How confident are you that it can 'fix' my sleep?
@nicolechkw
@nicolechkw Ай бұрын
So I’m having this problem right now and personally I think it can fix your sleep because it lets you know how your sleep was, your HR, breathing etc all the way to even your heart patterns and how it affects sleep. I just got mine today and woke up from a nap to see all this but I have to use it a bit longer to see its full affects! My best friend also got one for thanksgiving and it even showed her that she wasn’t feeling well after she kept saying she was having a stomachache.

As annoying as subscriptions are, to be fair $6 a month isn't really much at all. I just think that the ring is a little on the pricey side for the average person. They could've reduced the price of the ring with subscription of $6 a month, or just not bothered at all with the subscription.

Fantastic review. Just a comment on the subscription, and I'm still ambivalent about it... this ongoing income helps fuel continuing development and updates. Much like a lot of MMO games that have either monthly subs, "cash shops," etc... ongoing software development, research, and updates cannot be sustained by initial purchase prices alone. I know Circular doesn't plan to have a sub, but I suspect that sooner or later software updates, bug fixes, and innovations will become fewer and farther in between with them. Just food for thought.

They're terrible at running a business. Bait-and-switch (they didn't have a subscription before), then they offer me a free membership, then require payment info and promise not to charge me, then they charge me. The ring does not do what it says it does, at least not accurately. Great idea and I wore it for a few years, but honestly after a few months you'll get all you need out of the product to make lifestyle changes (bed time, dinner time, what drinking does to your sleep). Better yet, save your money and just do a tiny bit of research on improving sleep quality and setting your circadian rhythms. You don't need the ring. It's free to do the research.

Does everything need constant updates permanently though? This is what I hate about digital tech. Everything constantly "gets better" but there's always a downside. Like moving to a subscription based model, for example. It'd be awesome if a product could be honed to a near perfect state and then just remain relatively unchanged for long periods of time. Companies are just trying to constantly innovate to stay ahead of the curve and this isn't always a good thing for consumers. Rant over.

In the UK people have been receiving letters from the NHS asking if they will take part in 'future health' where their health is monitored and recorded for data, even the circumference of your head. If you sign up its for life so even if you get dementia or change your mind, you're obligated to take part. With all the fitness apps, watches and this ring - that's a lot of information about our personal health. Interesting.

@@NoahCBanks It might seem funny, but it's actually not that funny. These smart watches and rings are part of an agenda to get people to want and accept chips under their skin in the end which probably will become mandatory. It's the mark of the beast from Revelation. Same with medical trackers with transmitters, also part of the same plan. Same with Musk's Neuralink. I wrote a rage comment at first but realised that that is pointless. So to reframe myself: i want to share my vision on the subscription and price of the oura ring, just to offer a different perspective. :) When you see the price of the oura ring (varieying from €314 till €550, depending on style, color and VAT+shipping) you might be feeling down, because yes this is a lot of money. However, the technology used here is extremely valuable and the data is extremely valuabel for your life. Nothing is worth more than your health and the fruits that a healthy life gives you. When you put it in perspective, its really not that expensive. Gaming consoles and PC's (which drain life energy and make you unhealthy) are equally expensive or even more expensive. Going out to dinner multiple times is equally or more expensive, a pointless holiday is way more expensive. There are many things that are more expensive and they dont offer you anything healthy or good at all, yet most people spend their money on it. In my opinion it is unbelieveable that we can have this technology available for such a low price honestly. There is even normal jewerly which costs 1000+ euros or dollars. People dont think anytbing weird of that tho.. Then for the subscription, come on honestly? Just quit netflix, disney, prime or any other streaming service that most people use or spend 6 dollars less per month. It really isnt that much in my opinion. And if 6 dollars is too much for your financial life to cover, then maybe an health investment like an oura ring is not something you should consider at this point in your life. I believe the pricing is really fair and i am grateful that we get to have this research grade stuff at our disposal. Great video!

Would you advise getting a tight fit or loose one. I’m between sizes and unable to decide!
@NoahCBanks

Honestly looser. Definitely don’t want to end up in the situation where you can’t take it off. Try wearing the looser size replica from the sizing kit all day and see if it works for you. Our fingers do tend to expand throughout the day depending on temperature 👌🏾

I only wish my aura were so in order that I could leave the sleeping pills I have been using for years, restless sleep. If I could only sleep naturally the miracle I have been waiting for . Maybe someone out there has been in this situation and can give me an insight, thank you!

how is this better or worst than the apple watch?

I think they both have their pros and cons, but I think oura definitely leans better to health and fitness tracking capabilities since it isn’t trying to be anything else!

Really useful review, thanks. My question - if you're getting up / going to bed at slightly different times each day, can you tell it when you're going to bed or edit the data using the app, or is the idea it can figure all that out by itself? Or to put it another way, given you've own it as long as you have, how often has it logged your sleep / activities incorrectly?

Happy it was helpful! In my experience it has been fairly accurate. Id say 90-95% of the time especially when compared to my whoop. The only time i see it being off once in a while is when I actually wake up the next morning. It may say I was still sleep, but sometimes I don’t leave the bed even though I’m up

wear gloves in the gym so you wont scratch the ring, and if you ever need to build calluses on your hand (i know some people like to have them or whatevs) they can be built easily and plus even when you wear gloves you get a bit of calluses
